Tasting Britain got the invite down to the launch of the new JUBO in the lively and alive Exmouth Market, Farringdon. Jubo are, on the main part, an expat Korean themed bar/restaurant, who 'draw inspiration from the K-towns of New York and Los Angeles'. Which means it's kinda Korean-American fusion streetfood with an emphasis on ‘Anju’ (drinking food) and ‘Banchan’ (Side Dishes). The kinda place you go with some friends, perhaps get a little merry, and share some food after a long hard day doing whatever it is you do in this insomniac city powered by workahol and alcohol. The Koreans call this “Hoesik” - which I think translates to something like ‘bonding with people via lots of alcohol and food’. Party HARD.
Anyway, this location marks Jubo’s fist ‘independent site', and opened in June 2015. JUBO have had a pop-up at Rivington Street, in Shoreditch since 2013 - occupying one end of the long-established Bedroom Bar. The new site has definitely got that Farringdon feeling - tattooed staff, people spilling out onto the street to drink/merge with people drinking at other bars, mostly casual decor, neon lighting and of course, communal tables (because we can't be doing without those if we're having street food).
What's on the menu? Think fried chicken wings and boneless strips in a variety of STRONG sauces. Soju, and cocktails made from soju (soju being the national drink of Korea - much of it made in the same way as Japanese sake). A selection of craft beers (East London, duh), steamed Korean style buns, noodles and an assortment of rice bowl type things. JUBO don't take reservations, and like many places in the area are open 'til late' (I'm not exactly sure how they define 'late' but it's probably best not to show up at 3 in the morning expecting Ja Jang Myen). Ain’t too keen on over crowded launch parties but this place looks like it has mountains of potential. Delicious potential.
Day 3 in Vienna ... Saturday ... it snowed during the night, and still was snowing in the morning!
Today we activated our 72-hour City Passes, which meant we had unlimited use of the U-bahn (tube), the trams, and the buses. And use them we did.
The Prater is a large public park in Vienna's 2nd district (Leopoldstadt). The Wurstelprater amusement park, often simply called "Prater", lies in one corner of the Wiener Prater and includes the Wiener Riesenrad Ferris wheel.
The Wiener Riesenrad (Vienna Giant Wheel), or Riesenrad, is a 64.75-metre (212 ft) tall Ferris wheel at the entrance of the Prater amusement park.
Constructed in 1897, it was the world's tallest extant Ferris wheel from 1920 until 1985.
This is item # 3 in my "Classic Halloween Cats" series. I came up with a series of stuffed cats in the form of classic halloween monsters and symbols. Here is the mummy!
Francesca (named after the brandâs founder; Francesca Albanese) are a chain of French restaurants that specialise in Italian cuisine (eat in or take out) - though youâd probably have no idea that they were French if someone hadnât told you this beforehand. Almost everything inside is Italian, from food (obviously), to the walls - adorned with common (mainly food related) Italian sayings. The first Francesca opened in Strasbourg, France, way back in 1997 and at this point thereâs more than 50 to be found all over the world. The one you are currently looking at is the first (and, at the time writing, only) one in the UK, having opened back in 2012. Itâs in a fantastic central location - just up the road from Sherlock Holmes museum and hustle and bustle around Baker Street tube station.
Fast food is not something you'd usually associate with the country that quite literally pioneered slow food... riiiiight? Which is a little unusual as Francesca are most certainly and unashamedly a fast food restaurant, and a chain. Just look at the layout. You can tell. The staff wear a uniform that, in conjunction with the sparse minimalist decor, gives the place a fast food feel. âUnassuming' would be the word. The are walls adorned with the faces of presumably important people from the Fracesca chain, and sepia faded shots of people eating and drinking italian foods (we can presume that these are random peopleâ¦)
How about that food then? Mainstream. Anti-hipster. All the crowdpleasers, and probably all stuff you have heard of. Traditional selections of italian meals from pastas to various kinds of pizzas. To quote the restaurant itself âall our sauces and dressings are based upon traditional Sicilian family recipes.â Most of the food comes pre prepared, such as the salads, pasta sauces and panninis - though they do apparently cook the pasta to order. Speaking of pasta, I had heard a few people complain about Francesca's pasta portion sizes not living up to expectations: though having tried a bowl of âmaxi' size pasta (which is the largest portion they serve), I would politely disagree with these people. The plastic, translucent cups plus trays for the food feel a bit... âbudget' and cheapen the experience. But as it IS cheap (and cheerful) maybe that's what they're going for?
We opt for the Vodka pasta - it comes al dente and is splendid. You canât taste the vodka but can definitely taste the CREAM. Delicious cream. We also opt for a pizza, on a classic base with the traditional thin crust: The âProsciutto Di Parma e Ruccolaâ. At first glance it looks like itâs gonna be lacklustre but hoooooly shit this is one of the best pizzas as I have had in months (and I have had a lot of pizza lately). Not too heavy on the topping, just crispy enough and gone in an instant. Such paltry descriptions sell it short. Highly recommended.
As for the overall experience? Better than I expected. It is fast-casual: no frills, no fluff. Execution is flawless, and food arrives very quickly indeed. Thereâs not much waiting, and itâs also open âtil late (...I am not exactly sure of how late). Convenience is definitely the word. Prices are pretty decent too, especially once you take into account Francescaâs central location. There is a definite cafe ambiance to this place - but the thing that derails this ambiance is when you notice a shelf of exciting looking wines besides the metallic tubs of Illy :3 In summary, surprisingly delicious Italian food at a very decent price for a central London. But do we need more chains around here? I donât know. Regardless, itâs good food and probably the perfect place to bring a picky eaterâ¦.

Ciclotimici presenta "3 in 1", spettacolo con tre atti unici di Luigi Pirandello: "L'uomo dal fiore in bocca", "La patente" e "Cecè". Regia di Simão Do Vale e con Alessandra Deffacis, Anna Fantozzi, Nicolò Prestigiacomo e Simão Do Vale.
Somehow, this widescreen video has been squished to 4:3 in uploading. It looks a lot better as the animated GIF in the previous entry in this photostream; this should only be viewed if you can't get that to work!
Our home is down the valley to the left, in no danger from this fire, but more than 2,000 people from forest settlements on the other side of the mountain have been evacuated as of this writing (evening of August 13th.)
The animation is 14 frames and 14 seconds long; each frame is approximately ten seconds of real time after the previous one. The photos were taken at about 9 o'clock this morning from a rest area on California Highway 9 (along my usual commute) just west of its intersection with California HIghway 35.

Album bought from a carboot sale for £3 in Suffolk. The photos have been stuck into the album so I wouldn't normally have bought it .As it turns out this album is full of surprises the main one being the photos of David Lloyd George Prime Minister at Harlech Wales in 1922

Set 2 of 3.
In support of their latest album "Sounds of the Universe", Depeche Mode performed their "Tour of the Universe" at the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington on August 10, 2009. Their opening band was Peter, Bjorn and John. I had seats in section BB, row 16.
Toward the end of the show, Dave's voice started to sound a bit strained. As it turned out, the next two shows had to be cancelled because of this voice strain.

Construction of the monument was by Stefanutti Stocks[2]
overseen by Mongane Wally Serote.[3]
In March 2009, twenty-four deceased "liberation struggle heroes" were proposed for inclusion to the memorial. Some of the "national leaders" chosen include Steve Biko, Oliver Tambo, Helen Joseph, Albert Lutuli, and Bram Fischer. International and continental leaders were also among those considered for their contribution to the liberation of South Africa or the repressed in general. The continental leaders included Mozambican President Samora Machel and Amílcar Cabral. Amongst the international list was Che Guevara, a revolutionary who fought alongside former Cuban President Fidel Castro, and Toussaint Louverture, who fought during Haiti's war for independence.[4]

This is Mike, a car enthusiast and photographer. I had just started my walk yesterday when I noticed Mike washing his 1959 (I think) replica Porsche. I don't know they do this stuff, but after recreating the vehicle, he popped in a 400 horsepower enginer. In a 1400 pound car. Holey moley! He doesn't drive it much, and was spending the later afternoon getting it ready for the busy driving season. It turns out that Mike is a photographer, and also publishes "Skate Book" four times a year. He was kind enough to give me a copy. Mike is a former skateboarder and professional photographer, and the book has a companion website at skatebook.tv .
Mike is stranger #3 in my 100 Strangers project. Check out more at www.100strangers.com .
