Picea abies is spontaneous in IT only in the alps and in 2 locations of northern appennines (Passo del Cerreto and Alta Valle del Sestaione) where its southern limit of distribution dates back to LGP. Campolino Natural Reserve, 2 km from the botanical garden, hosts a native P. abies woodland. Fossil pollen found in the peat bog of Greppo lake dates back to 21-10 kya. At that time many northern spp pushed southwards; when climate changed again, many of them became extinct in the newly colonized territories, remaining only in limited areas in relictual conditions.

09. I sold vegetables for more than 25 years until my stroke. I stopped working for an American firm when I got married.
10. Wow, I'm glad I've reached number 10. I walk with a cane. I always have a portable stool when I go with my friends during photo shoots.

On 21 June 2019 I witnessed an extremely rare sight in the skies over Belgium, called ‘noctilucent clouds’ (NLCs).
Noctilucent clouds are very high clouds (usually between 75-85km) that only occur on rare occasions. Scientists are still investigating these clouds and there is still no true consensus on how they are formed.
NLCs can only be observed during summer months, more specifically the period between end of May and beginning of July (for the Northern Hemisphere). After sunset and before sunrise, NLCs still reflect sunlight (due to their high altitude) and become visible. Usually this is late in the evening (between 11-12pm) ans also well before sunrise (between 4-5am).
According to preliminary meteorological reports, the NLC display of Friday 21 June 2019 was one of the biggest outbreaks ever recorded and was visible in many parts all over Europe.

The X-38, a research vehicle built to help develop technology for an emergency Crew Return Vehicle (CRV), descends under its steerable parachute during a July 1999 test flight at the Dryden (now Armstrong) Flight Research Center, Edwards, California. It was the fourth free flight of the test vehicles in the X-38 program, and the second free flight test of Vehicle 132 or Ship 2. The goal of this flight was to release the vehicle from a higher altitude (31,500 feet) and to fly the vehicle longer (31 seconds) than any previous X-38 vehicle had yet flown. The project team also conducted aerodynamic verification maneuvers and checked improvements made to the drogue parachute. The X-38 Crew Return Vehicle (CRV) research project was designed to develop the technology for a prototype emergency crew return vehicle, or lifeboat, for the International Space Station. The project was also intended to develop a crew return vehicle design that could be modified for other uses, such as a joint U.S. and international human spacecraft that could be launched on the French Ariane-5 Booster. The X-38 project was using available technology and off-the-shelf equipment to significantly decrease development costs. However, the program was cancelled due to budget limitations in the early 2000s.

The original image comes from my slide collection, amassed over the past 40+ years. They are a mixture of my own photographs, and those acquired through trading.
I began uploading scans into this Flickr photostream in 2017 to create an archive for the slides in my collection. Slides in particular suffer from their inability to be displayed easily and enjoyably, so this is just a place to make them more readily viewable.

La Plaza de España de Sevilla constituye un conjunto arquitectónico encuadrado en el Parque de María Luisa, configura uno de los espacios más espectaculares de la arquitectura regionalista.
La Plaza de España constituyó el proyecto más emblemático de la Exposición Iberoamericana del año 1929, fue proyectada por el arquitecto sevillano Aníbal González, que también era arquitecto director del evento expositivo, fue ayudado por un buen conjunto de colaboradores, entre los que se encontraban el ingeniero José Luis de Casso y el arquitecto Aurelio Gómez Millán. Las obras de construcción comenzaron en el año 1914, resultando el proyecto más ambicioso y costoso de la Exposición, llegando a trabajar en su construcción mil hombres al mismo tiempo, puede resultar asombroso, cómo una ciudad en situación económica difícil en esos años, se embarcó en un proyecto de semejante magnitud. Algunos aspectos del proyecto suscitaron algunos rechazos, la Academia de Bellas Artes se opuso a la altura prevista de las dos torres que podían rivalizar con la Giralda y Forestier, diseñador del Parque de María Luisa rechazaba la construcción de la ría que rodea la plaza, para una ciudad con gran escasez de agua como Sevilla. En 1926, tras la dimisión de Aníbal González de su cargo de director de la Exposición, asume la finalización del proyecto el arquitecto Vicente Traver, que terminó los cerramientos del recinto y añadió la fuente del centro de la Plaza.
La plaza de España ha sido utilizada como escenario de algunas películas conocidas, entre ellas:
* En la película Lawrence de Arabia, la plaza representaba el cuartel general del Ejército británico en el Cairo
* En la película Star Wars Episodio II: El Ataque de los Clones de la saga de la Guerra de las Galaxias, la plaza representa el planeta Naboo, aunque el escenario de la filmación fue modificado digitalmente.

The Plaza de España ("Spain Square", in English) is a plaza located in the Parque de María Luisa (Maria Luisa Park), in Seville, Spain built in 1928 for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929. It is a landmark example of the Renaissance Revival style in Spanish architecture.
In 1929 Seville hosted the Ibero-American Exposition World's Fair, located in the celebrated Maria Luisa Park (Parque de María Luisa). It was designed by Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier. The entire southern end of the city was redeveloped into an expanse of gardens and grand boulevards. The centre of it is Parque de María Luisa, a 'Moorish paradisical style' with a half mile of: tiled fountains, pavilions, walls, ponds, benches, and exhedras; lush plantings of palms, orange trees, Mediterranean pines, and stylized flower beds; and with vine hidden bowers. Numerous buildings were constructed in it for the exhibition.
The Plaza de España, designed by Aníbal González, was a principal building built on the Maria Luisa Park's edge to showcase Spain's industry and technology exhibits. González combined a mix of 1920s Art Deco and 'mock Mudejar', and Neo-Mudéjar styles. The Plaza de España complex is a huge half-circle with buildings continually running around the edge accessible over the moat by numerous beautiful bridges. In the centre is a large fountain. By the walls of the Plaza are many tiled alcoves, each representing a different province of Spain.
Today the Plaza de España mainly consists of Government buildings. The Seville Town Hall, with sensitive adaptive redesign, is located within it. The Plaza's tiled 'Alcoves of the Provinces' are backdrops for visitors portrait photographs, taken in their own home province's alcove. Towards the end of the park, the grandest mansions from the fair have been adapted as museums. The farthest contains the city's archaeology collections. The main exhibits are Roman mosaics and artefacts from nearby Italica.
The Plaza de España was used for location shooting some scenes in the films Lawrence of Arabia and Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones.
After enjoying a fantastic visit to the mighty USS Nimitz, moored in Stokes Bay, the Solent in Sep. 1980, I made the trip down again just a couple of weeks later to visit the USS Saipan! Again, visitors were allowed on board, and as this one was docked, it only involved a walk up the gangplank rather than a choppy boat ride 😎 :)

USS Saipan (LHA-2) USS Saipan (LHA-2) was a Tarawa-class amphibious assault ship, the second United States Navy ship named in honor of the World War II Battle of Saipan. Commissioned in 1977, the ship saw service until 2007 when she was decommissioned. In 2009 the ship was sold for scrapping.
Saipan's operational career began in July 1979 when she was diverted from Fleet Refresher Training to Special Contingency Operations, for possible non-combatant evacuation of American personnel from the Nicaraguan Revolution.
From February to April 1980, Saipan was involved in Anorak Express 80. The Navy crew of around 800 and an entire Marine battalion of over 2,000 sailed from Norfolk to Norway. In May, Saipan was underway to augment U.S. Coast Guard efforts to assist Cuban refugees crossing the Straits of Florida to the United States during the Mariel boatlift. On 25 August, Saipan departed Norfolk for the first Mediterranean deployment by an LHA.
Saipan was decommissioned on 20 April 2007 at her home port in Naval Station Norfolk. On 30 September 2009, a contract to dismantle Saipan was issued to International Shipbreaking Ltd, Brownsville, Texas and on 28 October 2009 the ship departed Philadelphia under tow. Due to the ever growing Blacktron presence and the unconfirmed reports of the resurgence of the Ugokin threat, NCS Command Control has commissioned a Fighter Bomber, dubbed: Defender X-21
Suitable for long and short range missions, equipped with:

Uranus imaged by Hubble on 2017-10-27 at 01:15 UCT (that's 9 days ago from the time of this posting). I believe the moon to the right is Miranda. A few smaller moons are also visible in the image, and several more still are detected in the raw data, but are too dim to see with this processing. The brightening in the longer wavelengths at the limb of the planet is real, though I do not understand exactly why it happens.
This proposal is on the Director's Discretionary budget, so there's no proprietary period. Also available are recent images of Neptune! If you enjoy planetary processing, now is a good chance to get your hands on some fresh, public data. You can head over to the MAST portal to find it. Use an advanced search to filter it down to only images of moving targets taken in the last couple of months, and then sort the list by start time. Alternatively, you can also filter it by Proposal ID to 15262 and look at all the data currently available from that proposal. Sometimes there are gems from other proposals, though.
The moons and a small bright spot appear multi-colored because they moved in the moments between each exposure. The blue channel is not infrared, but rather a narrowband filter typically used to capture Hα and [N II] emission. It seems to work ok here as a kind of shorter wavelength red filter, with the other two channels containing more red and near-infrared. I found the combination gave it a pleasing amount of color separation without going into ultra vivid, technicolor land as so many infrared images do.
A great thing about these wavelengths is that the rings and cloud bands are clearly visible at the same time with the right tweaks to the value curves. Most images of Uranus have had separate processing for the rings and the planet because the rings are so very dim. I gave them both the same processing instead of separating them.
Here, you can also see the "X" shaped light pattern emanating from the planet, which is just like a diffraction spike we see on bright stars. This pattern, and the faint, fuzzy, glowing halo are effects produced as light interacts with the telescope—not something that is actually there around the planet.
The image is scaled up 200% from its original form. The latest version of Photoshop introduced a new resampling algorithm which they have called "Preserve Details 2.0" which maintains some of the sharper edges better than previous methods.
