Notes: The five posters comprising the United Farm Workers (UFW) series capture the spirit and solidarity of the union's epic struggle to organize agricultural migrant workers in the central valleys of California during the 1960s against overwhelming odds and the concentrated power of the anti-union Growers Association. Against the backdrop of the national civil rights struggle UFW co-founders Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta united and galvanized a diverse migrant workforce (Chicanos, Blacks, Filipinos, and Anglos) and led a series of successful agricultural strikes and boycott of grape growers. The organizational drive re-energized the AFL-CIO as affiliated unions provided valuable staff and economic support to the UFW cause. The farm workers' fight for dignity and social justice also garnered the attention and support of prominent liberal politicians such as Senator Robert F. Kennedy and captivated a nation.

I promise I'll catch up with everything once all the busyness dies down. School's going by too slowly D:
Finals are already on June 16 and 17, but it seems so far away due to everything I have to do in between now and then. I hope everyone does well on their finals for those who are taking them soon. (: <333 Lovelots.
2014 Gore Aussie Muscle Mania Car Show (12-4-14)
The Chrysler Valiant Pacer:
The Pacer added to its street cred with fully calibrated gauges and sports steering wheel. The gear change, however, still lacked reverse gear lock out - a common criticism of the Valiants. At $3878 the Pacer was a solid performance package that offered far more individuality than most other makes. It was fitted with the mandatory body stripes and screaming new colors, but under the look-at-me style the car was a big improvement on the old car. It was $85 dearer than the VG Pacer, but for the money you got a new, high-performance version of the 265 engine that put out 218 bhp at 4800 rpm 120 more than VG's undisclosed figure (and 273 lb/ft of torque at 3000 rpm 128 lb/ft more than the VG). Quarter times were in the high fifteens with a top end of more than 120 mph. Wide 61/2 in. road wheels were standard.
The Pacer Comfort Pack -
Unfortunately there was no four-speed gearbox - the VH retailed the close ratio three-speed driving a high-performance 3.23 diff. A $95 "comfort pack" equipped the car with carpets, reclining buckets, three-spoke sports steering wheel and dressed-up instrumentation. The 6.5-in. sports wheels and 185 radials were standard. The seats in all but the basic Ranger were good, and the driving position was considered, by most, to be superior to the VG. Rear legroom too was increased - the foot space was up two inches better and the seat was wide and better designed, but headroom was still compromised - strange on a car of its size.
Road testers claimed the brake feel was good, and the clutch was smooth in all but the Pacer's, which was heavy and tiring. There was a new lever handbrake, the first of its type on an Australian Big Three car. It was much easier to reach and operate than the old pull-out type. The trim, paintwork and finish was considered by motoring journalists to be far better than previous Valiants. It had a quality look and feel.
A 1972 VH Pacer Sedan, with a manual 265 two barrel, originally sold for $3235. The engine ran 218 hp (163 kW) @ 4800 rpm, 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) @ 3000 rpm. Top speed 112mph (179km/h), 0-60 mph 7.6sec, standing quarter 15.9 sec, weighing in at 3120lb (1415kg). (Stats courtesy Craig Cummerfield)
The next year, the VH models came out. The VH Pacer had a higher performance 265, and it set a record for being the fastest mass-produced four-door sedan with a six cylinder engine produced in Australia (the record was indisputed until 1988). The relatively inexpensive Pacer's 265 had 218 hp and 273 lb-ft, leading to a 15.9 second quarter mile, 8 second 0-100 km/h, and top speed of 185 km/h (with a three-speed).

He enlisted on the 4/2/1916 at the age of 19 years and 11 months. He give his occupation as farmer, his birthplace as Quindalup in the County of Sussex, Western Australia and his next of kin as his father Harry and mother of Yallingup via Busselton. As he was under 21, they both had to consent to him serving overseas.
At his medical he is described as 5’8” tall, weighing 144lbs, of fair complexion with greenish eyes and brown hair.
He embarked on the 31st March at Freemantle, Western Australia, on the HMAT Shropshire. He had been posted to the 16th Re-enforcements for the 11th battalion for his basic training, but on the 24/4 was admitted to hospital in Suez with influenza and not discharged until the 13/6. On the 3/7 he was back in again with Gastritis. On the 29/7 he rejoined the re-enforcements and was posted to France to join “C” Company.
On the 10/11/1916 he was admitted to Tidworth hospital in England suffering from “orchitis” (?), being discharged on the 16th.
After various moves over the next few months, he finally seems to arrive in France with his battalion on the 1/5/1917 in France.
He was wounded in action on the 22/09/1917. By the 23rd he was on the hospital ship for England.
He passed away at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospial on the 27-Sep-1917 as a result of Gun Shot Wounds to the side, and Endocarditis. The official notification from the hospital to the Austalian HQ states he died on the 27th September at 9.20 pm.
There is nothing in the records to indicate is was subsequently amended to the 28th
so I can only assume this is an error with the CWGC records.
He was buried on the 2nd October 1917.
The 11th Battalion were engaged in Third Ypres, also known as Passchendaele, but there was little action on the 22nd September.

BIRTHDAY OUTING TO CHISWICK HOUSE (11/21)
The Classic Bridge over the artificial lake (or 'river') in the grounds of Chiswick House, London, viewed from the W.
The Classic Bridge "which replaced a wooden bridge ... was built for the 5th Duke of Devonshire in 1774 and its design is attributed to James Wyatt." The grounds and lake were all part of the "revolutionary" landscaping here at what was "the birthplace of the English Landscape Movement and the inspiration for great gardens from Blenheim Palace to New York’s Central Park. Originally created by Lord Burlington [1694-1753] and William Kent [1685-1748] in 1729, the garden was inspired by the sights of the Grand Tour and romance of classical Italian landscape painting; it was conceived as a single, living artwork. Burlington and Kent replaced the formality of the existing renaissance garden with a freer, more luscious design. Straight lines were out, curves and clusters in. ‘Natural’ spaces were created, their informality highlighted by the careful addition of sculpture and other architectural details including an Ionic temple and Doric column."

BIRTHDAY OUTING TO CHISWICK HOUSE (21/21)
On our way home.
We had just got off this bus, at the Turnham Green Station bus stop, just around the corner from underground station entrance.

The bus is a hybrid-powered Alexander Dennis Enviro 400H, here classed as a DN series bus in First London's bus fleet, and an example of the latest bus technology being used by various bus companies operating for London Buses. The manufacturers claim reductions in fuel consumption and greenhouse gases of about 30%. These buses have been in service on this route since 2009.

Pilot, 616 Sqn, RAF, 20 June 1942, Aged 21, England
10 Spitfires were claimed as shot down by the Luftwaffe during fighter sweeps over St Omer and Le Havre on this day. However, Sgt Clouston does not appear in that days Fighter Command records amongst the KIA nor does 616 squadron feature.
Built Schenectady April, 30, 1906 (Cons. No. 39008). Cylinders 20x26. Renumbered 2121 in 1911. Although ten-wheelers excelled in passenger service they were not above freight work as this photo demonstrates. Of particular interest is the Erie boxcar marked “Worcester Salt.” The Worcester Salt Co. was founded in Warsaw, New York in 1894 and was absorbed by Morton Salt in 1943.

Ooops - Long Exposure Shot Gone Wrong
Old Film Project – Roll #2: Long Exposure
The plan for this long exposure shot was to leave the shutter open for one minute while I visit each window in the house and “flash” myself in the window…so the end effect would be me photographed in each window.
Problems supreme:
My overall exposure is wrong.

Councillor Worley, Leonard Clifford Albert (25th November 1909 - June 1980)
The family owned a small chain of Shoe shops and Bootmakers in Portsmouth for most of the 20th century. Worley was an active member of the Portsmouth Film Society, who was known to have often collaborated with other filmmakers, including Messrs. FW Taylor, Rex Verry, Tom Hooper, N P Fletcher and Antony Clover (grandson of the well known early filmmaker Alfred J West). Clover is known to appear on at least one of Worley’s films. The Club held public screenings of their films in Portsmouth and Southsea, and these would have been accompanied by suitable music and commentary, added live.
Worley married Miss Molly Bishop 20th June 1934, and numerous films in the collection feature the Bishop family and the homes of the extended family, as well as the marriage itself. These locations include South Parade, Southsea- on the junction with Clarendon Road; Grand parade, North End, Portsmouth, Torrington Avenue, North End, Portsmouth, St Simon’s Church – Waverley Road, Southsea, Kingscote – No.1 Eastern Park Villas, situated on the junction of Eastern Park Villas and Clarendon Road.
Worley served as a City Councillor in Portsmouth for a total of 24 years. For 2 years as City Councillor for St Thomas (1951-53), and then as City Councillor for St Paul between 1953-67 (14 years). He became Lord Mayor of Portsmouth in 1966 and after this role became an Alderman for St Paul from 1967-74, afterwards served as an Alderman for St Thomas in 1974-75. The films were deposited with WFSA by the filmmaker’s son, Cllr Frank Worley.

Il racconto della fede Islamica nella sua semplice quotidianità, delle sue manifestazioni, delle sue pratiche e curiosità, in tre mesi passati dalle strade e i deserti di Syria e Giordania fino alla mistica Sufi dei Dervisci di Konya, in Turchia.
Un viaggio di curiosità attraverso popoli accomunati da un'unica fede, lontano dalle estremizzazioni, dalle guerre, dalle frontiere che distorcono il senso di una fede che val la pena di indagare, della quale abbiamo informazioni spesso distorte o frammentarie.
In occasione del finissage della sua personale fotografica "Medioriente - tra Islam e Ramadan", Dario Jacopo Laganà regalerà agli appassionati questo incontro/dibattito, dove la visione delle sue intense immagini si accompagnerà a racconti di incontri, episodi ed amtosfere, proprio come degli Appunti di Viaggio, annotati su una Moleskine immaginaria.
