Name: Alma

Age: 21

Hometown: Sambava, Madagascar

Likes: I love swimming, running, and horse-ridding. Physical activities are really important to me. They allow me to be myself, to feel alive, and to discover wild and beautiful places. My island is full of treasures, like the Sambava beach, and going there to swim or jog makes me feel like I'm on top of the world. I love partying too, mostly because I love dancing and meeting new people. I love people who have convictions and opinions and are not afraid to express them. People seem always scared to share their thoughts, fearing to offend someone. And that's a shame. I'm also very determined, thus I enjoy people who know what they want. Don't worry, I also enjoy a good laugh and a good joke. I'm not that serious all the time.

Dislikes: I hate liars. Honesty is so important to me. I'm the sweetest girl on Earth but if you dare lie to me, you're dead to me. I'm not particularly fond of conflict and bitching, but if something needs to be said, I'll say it. I'm also not a fan of loud crazy people that'll do anything to be the center of attention.

Why I should be picked for Sabrina's Star school: I think I could bring a different vibe to the competition. I'm down-to-earth yet fierce: when I have an idea in my mind, I do everything that I can to make it happen. I'm a very competitive person so I won't give up. I love competition, but a fair one: if you think you're the best, don't say it, prove it. And I'm going to prove you that I deserve my place in the competition.

Notes: The five posters comprising the United Farm Workers (UFW) series capture the spirit and solidarity of the union's epic struggle to organize agricultural migrant workers in the central valleys of California during the 1960s against overwhelming odds and the concentrated power of the anti-union Growers Association. Against the backdrop of the national civil rights struggle UFW co-founders Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta united and galvanized a diverse migrant workforce (Chicanos, Blacks, Filipinos, and Anglos) and led a series of successful agricultural strikes and boycott of grape growers. The organizational drive re-energized the AFL-CIO as affiliated unions provided valuable staff and economic support to the UFW cause. The farm workers' fight for dignity and social justice also garnered the attention and support of prominent liberal politicians such as Senator Robert F. Kennedy and captivated a nation.

It's cold outside and the heating is on. This is Lily, our lovely little girlie cat and she has the sweetest of natures. She's the only female in our household of 5 cats. She is also a better mouser than all the boy cats put together!

Here we have the final 16 girls chosen to compete in cycle FIVE of TA! Before we began, they were all assigned makeovers to make them more model material. Get to know the girls by reading the following info:

Name: Emma Swan

Age: 21

Hometown: Tucson, Arizona, USA

Makeover: Big & Curly

Name: Rosaletta Ulala Bonne Sui(she goes by Ulala)

Age: 21

The Ever Prismatic Pink Drop from Aphrodite's Love Fountain

Ulala will remake her debut soon enough but for now, random stuff.

1. No one knows where she came from. She just appeared one day. Rumor has it she fell from the sky.

2. She excels in business, design, baking, and dance. She personally designed Aria's wedding dress.

3. She's very private when it comes to her origin and family. She won't reveal anything to anyone.

4. Her favorite pop stars are Lady Gaga and Katy Perry even though she'll listen to pretty much any genre of music.

5. Her favorite color is NOT pink. It's actually blue. Not generic blue, but the blue that pops. Like the blue under neon blue but above royal blue.

6. She currently has three jobs. She owns a couture boutique, she DJs on the weekends and she does photography as well.

7. She has a thing for sweets such as cotton candy and ice cream.

8. She can't remember her own natural hair color.

9. She has a crush on Raquelle's twin brother Ryan.

10. Barbie is one of her top clients when it comes to red carpet and gala looks.

BIRTHDAY OUTING TO CHISWICK HOUSE (1/21)

One of a pair of lead sphinxes that face each other from the tops of the main gate piers to Chiswick House, London.

These are replicas of the 18th Century (c. 1720) originals, as explained here.

(Wish I'd left a bit more sky (vertically) in the original frame.)

Chiswick House was built in 1729 in Palladian style to designs by Lord Burlington (Richard Boyle, 3rd Earl of Burlington, "the architect Earl", 1694-1753), assisted by several contemporary architects. This was not for a home, but to house his art collections. We also visited the pioneering landscaped grounds (William Kent) with their classical-style monuments and sculptures.

TRAVEL DIARY, PAGES 20-21:

MONDAY, JUNE 25, 2001

[Sue] 1:04am - We had pizza and spaghetti with meatballs for dinner at a nice little restaurant up a great big hill. I t was yet another evening with huge quantities of very good food. It's a good thing we're leaving tomorrow because I'm so full...

Everyone sang Happy Birthday (again) to Peter at the restaurant. Peter is still downstairs being social, but I came back to the room to do some packing. Our cab is picking us up at 9am tomorrow. That seems so early.

[Peter] 1:44am - Mostly packed, ready for bed, more tomorrow... (The cab *is* early, but it's later than the bus, which leaves at 8am to take more people back to the airport)

[Peter] 7:18am - Awake. Much too early...

I was on Manitoulin Island for the long weekend.

I was driving past Bridal Veil Falls on my way to a friends farm and had to stop for pictures. This is a beautiful set of falls.

Anyone looking for more detail on the falls can check out this link:

BIRTHDAY OUTING TO CHISWICK HOUSE (8/21)

The Ionic Temple in the Orange Tree Garden of Chiswick House, London, seen from the NE.

I particularly like the grace and simplicity of Ionic columns.

Chiswick House (including the buildings in the gardens, like the Ionic Temple here) was built in 1729 in Palladian style to designs by Lord Burlington (Richard Boyle, 3rd Earl of Burlington, "the architect Earl", 1694-1753), assisted by several contemporary architects. The house was not for a home, but to house his art collections. We also visited the pioneering landscaped grounds (William Kent) with their classical-style monuments and sculptures.

"The Ionic Temple ... is derived from either the Pantheon in Rome or possibly from the Temple of Romulus. The portico of this temple is derived from the Temple of Portunus which William Kent illustrates in the ceiling of the Red Velvet Room within the Villa. Immediately in front of the Temple lies a circular pool of water with a small obelisk positioned in its centre. Around the base of the pool of water are three concentric rings of raised grass conforming originally to a 3:4:5 ratio echoing the dimensions of the Red and Green Velvet Room within the Villa." - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiswick_House

別稱尖翅粉蝶

Appias albina subsp. semperi Moore, 1905

Etymology:

semperi:應是紀念德國昆蟲學家Georg Semper(1837-1909),其對歐洲、菲律賓、Indomalaya(東洋界)、Australasia(澳新界)地區的鱗翅目研究貢獻卓著。

Japchae - 7 & 7 Korean AUD14.50

---

Another hot day in Melbourne means another day we can't be bothered to cook dinner!

I wanted to try the Satsuki restaurant where Asatsuki used to be be, but alas, it was closed. I wondered if it has closed permanently, or if they were only closed on Mondays.

So we decide to head to Tasty Rooster in Carnegie, but that seemed to have changed hands as well, now run by Asians, the salads look a bit bleh, and worst of all, the dining area was very well heated by the roasting on chooks.

We also discovered 阿姨水饺 Bob's Kitchen, the dumpling shop from Glen Waverley, had opened a second outlet right next door to Tasty Rooster, but alas, their air-conditioning broke down yesterday.

So, on to 7 & 7, a nice little Korean place I'd read about, but never tried.

The food was rather good, but we still prefer the more homey style at Let's Bap.

As AB already commented below (she is fast!) this is the outfit I work on our (ultimately fruitless) trip to see how the other half live at the famous Heath Ceramics. We'd been sent to look over the week's selection of overstock tile, which is marked down from "insane" to "just about doable," but ultimately we were unable to cludge together enough tiles in the right color AND right size, sadness. But we did enjoy some complimentary heart-shaped sugar cookies, and get to ogle and fondle the amazing dinnerware and vases, and get a peek inside the factory, all things I've always wanted to do! And then after we went to the greatly overpriced Molly Stone's and I got one of the best chicken sandwiches in my life. And so endethed Tile Day.
