I would like to wish all who have taken the time to follow my images on Flickr, a very happy New Year!

I would also like to propose a toast: Please raise your glasses this New Years Eve and spare a thought to those who, throughout adversity and throughout the world, fly the flag of freedom and wish them "FREEDOM AND SUCCESS IN 2015".

There have been estimated to be between 60-80 million little bee-eaters. It breeds in open country with bushes, preferably near water. Just as the name suggests, bee-eaters predominantly eat insects, especially bees, wasps and hornets, which are caught in the air by sorties from an open perch. This species often hunts from low perches, maybe only a metre or less high. Before eating its meal, a bee-eater removes the sting by repeatedly hitting the insect on a hard surface.

Unlike most bee-eaters, these are solitary nesters, making a tunnel in sandy banks, or sometimes in the entrance to an Aardvark den. They lay 4 to 6 spherical white eggs. Both the male and the female take care of the eggs. These birds roost communally, lined up on a tree branch.

Many thanks for the faves and comments, they are all very much appreciated.

I drove to Porlock Hill in search of clear skies this morning. I arrived there just before the eclipse started and spent the next few hours watching the eclipse. I was high enough to cut out most of the haze which left me with great visibility.

Since I only had a 200mm lens, decided to go with this composite image of the whole eclipse - from around 8:30 to 10:40.

Flowers at sunrise - Dordrecht 2015.

Dear friends, thank you so much for all your lovely comments and faves. And all the encouragement I am getting from you. It means so mu much to me! I don't often mention this but, as some of you know I am handicapped, and each and every photo I shoot is accompanied by pain and discomfort.. Some days I don't know how long I can still keep up. This sunny and warm shot at sunrise yesterday morning is to give me the courage to continue. Because I love photography, and I love your photo's! Have a great weekend!

LES ÉVADÉS

Quatre fugitifs en fuite. Ils parlent peu.

They don’t speak much. In their convicts' uniforms, they try to blend in. Their glances are malicious. Their smiles are fierce. Their intentions aren’t clear, they must be up to no good. And then, suddenly, the music starts.

Finally got round to tracking down a few Zebra Spiders, great to see them out and about, although still not in great numbers. This was one of 3 I spotted on the pink walls by the Nottingham Canal the other day.

This was a 10 image focus stack using an F/6.3 aperture, ISO 320 and a 1/160 shutter speed. A diffused flash was used for this stack, there was some slight movement of the pedipalps, but I managed to edit around the problem areas.

Bo-bo happily joined in last night during Earth hour. I tried to take away as much I could of the artificial light from outside of the street when capturing the event.

This picture is a week old and the golden autumn seems so far away. We had lots of rain lately, it's stormy and the days are so short. I hate this time of the year...
