tomorrow's the first day my 2 boys go back to school..... a little sad summer's over, but on the other hand it's good life gets back to normal once again... happy labor day everyone!

Skógafoss is a waterfall situated in the south of Iceland at the cliffs of the former coastline. After the coastline had receded, the former sea cliffs remained, parallel to the coast creating (together with some mountains) a clear border between the coastal lowlands and the Highlands of Iceland.
The Skógafoss is one of the biggest waterfalls in the country with a width of 25 metres (82 feet) and a drop of 60 m (200 ft). Due to the amount of spray the waterfall consistently produces, a single or double rainbow is normally visible on sunny days

In 961 Ani became the capital of Armenia under Bagratyd. The heyday was in time reign of Gagik I, at the beginning of the 11th century. It was established at that time a lot of valuable buildings and the city had a population of about 100 thousand inhabitants. In 1319 years it destroyed earthquake. The ruins of Ani are the biggest and the greatest testimony of the Armenian culture, religion and the power of the past. In 1915 you could still see the remains of 43 churches, then their number gradually decreased.
It is now a "ghost town" and in 2016 was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

W 961 roku Ani stało się stolicą Armenii pod rządami Bagratydów. Okres świetności to czasy panowania Gagika I, na początku XI wieku. Powstało w tym czasie wiele cennych budowli a miasto liczyło około 100 tys mieszkańców. W 1319 roku zniszczyło je trzęsienie ziemi. Ruiny Ani są największym i najwspanialszym świadectwem ormiańskiej kultury, religii i potęgi z przeszłości. W 1915 można było jeszcze zobaczyć pozostałości 43 kościołów, potem ich liczba sukcesywnie malała.
Obecnie jest to "miasto widmo" a w 2016 roku zostało wpisane na listę światowego dziedzictwa UNESCO.
The weather is definitely MUCH better in my archives...still a wintry mess here! A magnolia blossom from last Spring with its perfect petals unfolding. We had a warm, dry Winter last year and an early Spring albeit with a few deep frosts that killed off all the early blooms like this one. Crazy weather from our perspectives here, but I"m sure perfect from some broader perspective. Have a great Wednesday!
The hermitage of El Calvario or Ermita del Santo Calvario is a secular Catholic community working in the city of Antigua Guatemala. It is one of the few religious buildings that survived both the earthquakes of Santa Marta in 1773 and the subsequent transfer of the capital from the Captain General of Guatemala, then known as Santiago de los Caballeros de Guatemala, to a new place. The parish of El Calvario has been open for worship since its foundation on 19 November 1618 and is recognized for being built by the holy brother Pedro de Betancur.
The church has a very original manneristic scheme, since the structure consists of a triple portico with three bell towers, which conclude it with "great scenographic effect."
Following the Mexican pattern of the late Baroque period, the chapel with its exposed portal stands behind a small atrium.
All about the light, does a view get any better than this. I love it when everything comes together, the boat launch and jetty, the Duke of Portland boathouse, the mist, the sunlight, the colours of autumn...what more do you want. A beautiful morning on Ullswater.
The Pintail is one of the most graceful and streamlined of our ducks and therefore presents a very striking picture. I photographed this beautiful bird today on the shores of Quidi Vidi lake, Newfoundland.
