As the light of another fiery sunset faded over the San Pablo Bay in northern California, the lights on the oil refinery's pier became visible, signaling the onset of night. A tugboat and its wake can be seen in this shot rounding the dock at the end of the pier while Mount Tam, as the locals call it, looms in the background. This is a colorized version of the original, which was created using Color Efex Pro, a plugin from the Google Nik Collection.

This is an old shot (obviously) that I didn't post because it irked me that I didn't quite get my viewpoint precise enough. I also thought the grey, concrete steps were too uninteresting. But looking at it again now, I think the grey, cold concrete actually makes the shot as it contrasts so well with the beautiful vibrant autumn tones and the softness of the fallen leaves. A damp, grey day, made more beautiful by a wonderful carpet - truly a stairway to heaven. And of course I am listening to the song as I write :) !

Taken in the RSPB Conwy Reserve in North Wales on a glorious sunny day. Shame about the damaged wing but it did not appear to hinder the flight

I have luckily managed to capture an incredible fish-hunt and fight this river otter has performed, in the calm waters of Alouette river. This was the first time for me to have witnessed such an amazing spectacle and I truly hope it won't be the last.
Otters are masterful fish predators, while in the water. On land, they can become prey for larger mammals.
Despite the apparent fearful expression in my photo, I think most of us love otters. They are cute and make funny poses and grimaces.
