When my son was not quite two -- he found a ball point pen, and before I noticed -- decorated himself from head to toe with "OTT" (his word for art at the time.) At first I was horrified. Then I decided "what the heck" and I let him decorate me a bit too. I have many great pictures of him since then (he just turned 7 last week) -- but this little collage never fails to make me smile.

De Grote Markt (Hauptmarkt) van Trier is een van de mooiste stadspleinen (innerstädtische Plätze) van Duitsland. Op het plein bevindt zich het Marktkruis, dat stamt uit 958, en dat het symbool was van het verkrijgen van marktrechten. Aan het plein staan schitterende panden in verschillende stijlen. Het geheel wordt gedomineerd door de St. Gangolfkerk (gewijd in 1459).

Details
Grotte du Grand Roc - discovered in 1924 by Jean Maury, caver and prehistorian. A visit takes you into extraordinary eccentric formations that give the impression of evolving in a "mineral forest". During the tour there is a jumble of crystallizations of great diversity: stalagmites, eccentric concretions, fistulas, gours, triangles, columns, draperies, etc. Due to the presence of mineral particles in the water, different colors arise: red (iron oxide), ocher (clay), black (manganese).
It was designated a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1979, one of the prehistoric sites and decorated caves of the Vézère Valley.

excerpt from an old diary
There is no happily ever after. You can’t have it all.
There isn't joy without heartache attached. There aren't fresh beginnings without goodbyes. There won't be rewards without the struggle.
Everything will always be a compromise.
My prince will never wear white and sweep me up onto his horse whisking me away to a life devoid of troubles. Instead he’ll arrive in a faded, dusty car that squeaks when it rounds corners, wearing bad shoes that don’t match his belt. He’ll never be what I always dreamed of, but somehow he’ll be more. He will be everything I never knew I needed. I hope I’ll be smart enough to recognize him, because he’ll look nothing like I expected him to.
I’ll never live in my dream apartment, piled high above a city that glimmers at night. Instead of walking the dusky, kinetic streets I have always dreamed of, crammed with life, framed by skyscrapers, I’ll drive blindly down pseudo streets masquerading as parts of a proper city. i'll weave my car between postmodern architecture that seems as new as the plastic surgery that inhabits it.
But I’ll have my family, my friends. And they’ll drive me insane with irritation some days and lift me up when I’m down. They’ll be the fuel that drives me and the reassurance that keeps me steady, that keeps me me.
My soulmate will dump me when I need him most. My best friend will move across the country leaving a friendship irreparably altered. I will be fired from the best job I’ve ever had.
And I will lose – people and loved ones, track of time, the job i longed for, beloved pets, the boy I adore – I will lose. Time and time again.
I will never, ever, have it all. There is no happily ever after. Something will always hurt.
But hopefully, if I get it right, I’ll try my hardest to recognize what’s important, what is good, the bits that fill me up and keep me warm, and i'll hold onto it with all my might.
And that will be enough.

Gedurende werkzaamheden in 2002 werden treinen uit de richting Geldermalsen omgeleid over het goederenemplacement van Utrecht. Dit was in die tijd nog beveiligd met klassieke armseinen, en met een paar seinen van het verder allang verdwenen Lichtseinenstelsel 1946.
Het hoofdsein staat op veilig, het voorsein voor het volgende (dwerg)sein niet.
