Team Green.
The BMW 2002 just never seems to get old to me. Every time I see one, I fall in love again. BMW's late mid century entry level cars strike such a great balance; a tasteful and elevated take on uncomplicated driver's cars with indisputable utility. A timeless formula, and one that deserved another take on my part. Similar to my White Bird 911, this is a complete rethink of my previous 2002 design. Scaled closer to City with a shorter overall height, the proportions are improved between the greenhouse and the body and the size of the wheel/tire combo is more period correct. I just wish I could take this one out for a spin myself!

After years of trying I finally got a decent shot of this!
As I mentioned on a previous photo, this is the only Reliant I've seen in pictures or reality on an 02 plate, so it must be one of the very last Suffolk built BN-1 models. First registered on April 1st (!) this one owner car had 63,000 miles at the last MOT.
As late as they get, its sporting the 'fan blade' alloys which suit it nicely. A remarkably good MOT history, with only minor rust issues.
I was surprised to find this had covered 117,000 miles at the last MOT. Not only that. but it's only had one very minor fail in it's history. It looked very well cared for, and obviously is.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: I will say that the interior of this house definitely captures that town house feel! I for one have always lusted for this house--and were it not for the even greater temptation of the Grand Hotel, this would have been one of my birthday gifts in 2003! There are a few features that really stand out to me about this house. First of all, it has a stair case. I remember that a lot of the doll houses that were available when I was a kid, or the one my dad built, were not equipped with stairs. This meant having to use your imagination to fill in the missing staircase, or it meant that I had to cleverly use stacks of books and our two Holiday Singing Sisters stairs to make my own. I'm not sure why I felt that stairs were so important that it justified spending a half hour designing my own set, but it was. The bedroom is definitely the crown jewel of this house. I like that it is spacious, despite the house's small structure. And it has a shower, with a door, for privacy. The shower more than anything (well besides the front door), would have been my favorite childhood feature. Not because you can make Barbie sing, but because it would have been fun to make the younger dolls, like say Kid Kore Katie, invade the older dolls' privacy. I can imagine it now--Leroy (Water Jewel Magic Aladdin), is taking a shower after a long day at work, when Katie barges into his bedroom demanding new clothes, special food, or a doggy poo cleanup. This is the kind of house Colleen and I would have used as either a loft bedroom, or an apartment building. I think the main reason I didn't get it as a kid was because the downstairs would have been hard to play with. I can see me and Colleen's heads smacking each other as we tried to move the dolls about downstairs. I can envision a dining room table, dressed with all dinner plates and food, being knocked cleanly over as our hands fumbled to move the dolls around. But despite it's lack of space, this house is just as awesome as I always hoped it would be, and I'm so glad it's finally part of my collection!
Focus saloon cars were never very common in the UK and Focus mk1s seem to be disappearing fast - so when I saw this one in very good condition I just had to document it!

The BMW 2002 Coupe is an iconic model that built the marque's reputation, particularly in the US. A model that wasn't seen Stateside was the 2002 Touring.
The Touring was released in 1971, through to 1974, so receiving the newer BMW engines available at this time. The car is notionally a 3-door hatchback, though the intent was perhaps more of a Sport Break (shooting brake).
There was not a similar car in the BMW lineup until the late mid 1990s, when a version of the E36 BMW 3-Series was configured much in this manner. By this time though, the appellation 'Touring' had been shifted to the 5-door wagon form of the 3 and 5-series models.

1/13 - 2002 - LEGO Creator
Have you ever wondered what font was used on LEGO Boxes? Chalet! Have you wondered what was used on any official signage for that matter? Chalet! Anything to do with internal communications and official press material? Chalet, released in 1996 is the company’s current font family of choice and it all started in 2002 when Chalet ‘NY1960’ was first used on boxes. This was a way to standardise and simplify the design process for this sort of material, in a time when the company was overcomplicating many processes. With a full condensed to extended family, Chalet allows consistency in its flexibility.
I dare say this may have been one of the changes former CEO Jørgen Vig Knudstorp put in motion, as was his approach at the time to streamline workflow and production.
The bar of one unique colour brackets one or more edges of the front of the box to show what theme it comes from and a dynamic background breaks through from the rear. You will find it’s only been within the last couple years that any change has been made away from this layout standard, both in Creator and other themes.
Next week I’ll be looking at the box that set the standard for the standard, the first Creator sets!

PERSONAL FUN FACT: I distinctly recall seeing these Happy Birthday Barbies in stores. What I didn't realize as a kid was that there were actually two versions. The 2001 dated dolls use the old 1991 body mold. For whatever reason, Mattel reissued the dolls with 2002 box dates, but on the 1999 body molds. Other than the body mold and box date differences, their outfits and facial screenings are identical! I love learning about fascinating variations such as this. Interestingly, I own the African American Barbie who is dated 2001, and then this blonde gal who is the 2002 variation. What's even more fascinating is that I got both in the same lot! This lady and her 2001 counterpart were both included in the "60 Doll Bin" of 2013. As the name would suggest, Colleen and I scored a rather massive lot of dolls on opening day of the flea market that year. The main attraction was the inclusion of a diversity of dolls. It's not everyday you find a cluster of African American Barbies and their Caucasian counterparts. For this reason, we suspect that the lot was originally owned by siblings. We don't believe that they were owned by one sole child because the condition of the variations/duplicates varied so much. One doll was almost always in superior condition to the other. I guess one of the siblings preferred African American variations (they shared the same taste in Barbies as myself). I wonder if they each got these Happy Birthday Barbies on the same day, but the store in question had a mix of the 2001 and 2002 dolls. I'll never know for sure, but I love how the two sister dolls could stay together!
