Impala is branching out into sailing: I have since I was a boy, had a passion for the rivers and broads of Norfolk. An opportunity to sail in traditional wooden yachts that were built in the 1930’s and 40’s came my way a few years ago so I grasped it firmly with both hands.
These yachts have no engines, so casting off and eventually coming back alongside require a lot of skill and thought. You have to take into account the wind (often contrary) and other boats with engines (often not really under control) and the speed that your boat is slipping through the river, as the staithe hove’s into view. The planned approach has to be a flexible one due to the aforementioned wind, boats and speed. It is very satisfying coming alongside with the way of the boat coming to an end as you step gently off the bows and onto the shore. Sometimes the stepping of is a little hurried so as to stop the last bit of way yourself, but not very often.
I am toying with the idea of setting up skippered sails using this type of traditional boat so keep an eye on our website for further news. I am going to call this arm of Impala - Whispering Willows sailing.

‘Scene’, ‘Bits and Pieces’ 2
on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’
Most of my blogs have some sort of theme or purpose.
There are however times when I take a photograph of something that does not fit into any category.
It is generally something that just happened to turn up at the time.
Collectively they are just ‘Bits and Pieces’. Individually they can be interesting.
See if there is anything that you like out of these.
For part 1 see blog published 28/03/2018.
It is always a pleasure to photograph one of ‘PSW’s vehicles. Whatever the weather, they are always immaculate.

Meadowhall shopping centre and Meadowhall Transport Interchange lie to the Northeast of the city centre and within a few hundred yards of the M1.
Access by both rail and road is easy to all points of the compass.

On Monday May 6, 2002 at 18.06, the Netherlands was shocked by a political murder for the first time since 1672 (De Witt brothers). At the Mediapark in Hilversum Volkert van der Graaf -animal and environmental activist- aimed 5 times at Pim Fortuyn and shot him in the head, neck and heart region. Pim Fortuyn died immediately.
The Cunard cruise ship Queen Mary 2 on her trip to Hong Kong on 28 February 2007.
Because of its vast size, Queen Mary 2 could not be moored at Ocean Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui, the normal berth for cruise ships. It was mooored in Kwai Chung Container Port. It was impossible to get a decent shot of the entire ship.

This objective is technically a replica of a more expensive Zeiss‘s objective. The objective has proven very good, very compact - but possibly somewhat difficult to handle. It can be used successfully for portraits, fine art photography, still life etc. It is said to give a sense of “timelessness”, as the photos with this objective don’t look like something taken on an mobile phone or modern objectives. The 'bokeh' is also pleasant.

Now, for those who don't know me and my esteemed house mate, Jeff. We are somewhat addicted to Spot the Difference 2 on the Itbox games machine in our local pub. We act under the pseudonym "SSR 2006", which is an abbreviation of "Single Storey Residence" against those cretins that describe our humble abode as a... as a... as a... bungalow! ha ha. Anyway, we're sh*t hot at it and held the top score for 344 days, until last night... when we beat it! The funny thing is, we haven't played for at least a month, and it was our first 50p! Still didn't win any money though! Can anyone top this score? Or more probable, anyone else this sad!?
To state the obvious, there is no way in hell there should be an SD40-2 on the ZEMCH, EM for East Minneapolis, MN. Second, it SHOULD have lead out of town yesterday, but the crew b/o'd it and turned it. And with all of that wacky stuff listed, it just HAPPENED to be sporting its original Can Opener.
With the Town of East Toronto recently annexed by the City of Toronto, the TFD was saddled with outdated facilities in the newly annexed area. One of these was the ETFD's Hall # 2 on Main St. The photo, taken on August 1st, 1911, shows the replacement hall #22 nearing completion. The horse-drawn hose wagon is shown in the left bay while the two stalls for the horses can barely be seen at the back of the right-hand bay. Today the new hall is TFS Station 226.
