Royal Saxon State Railways (K.S.St.E.B.) Class XX HV (DRG Class 19.0) 4-cylinder compound 2-8-2 DR No.19.017 (built 1922) at Dresden Hbf. Station, 8 October 2021.
It was positioned here apparently to promote the Dresden Steam Festival although why chose this, rather than one of the numerous Class 50 or 52 locos, I find odd. If you pay money to attend the Steam Festival itself, you want to see this loco there – not somewhere where people can see it for free and where most people would have no idea of the significance of this loco. Very strange.
The Class XX HV’s were express passenger locos for the hilly areas of Saxony, the contemporary Class XVIII H (DRG Class 18.0) 4-6-2’s being built for the flat areas of Saxony. The XX HV’s were the last express engines for the K.S.St.E.B. and the largest express engines in Europe when introduced, 23 being built in 1918-23. I find them very impressive and advanced machines for 1918 – the Saxon equivalent of the LNER’s P2 2-8-2’s of 1934 but much more successful.
All bar one Class 19.0 (as by then classified) destroyed in WWII ended up in East Germany. All were withdrawn by 1967 except for two rebuilt as Rekoloks in 1963-65 with all-welded 39E boilers (as on the Class 03.10, 39 and 41 Rekoloks), new cabs, de Witte smoke deflectors, new carrying wheels, modified frames and a 2’3’T38 tender instead of the Saxon2’2T31 tender. These two were reclassified 04 in 1970 and were withdrawn in 1975-76.
A view from the footpath running around Carr Mill Dam showing part of the 19 arches viaduct which is situated at the northern end of the dam. The dam was originally a small mill pond which was expanded in the mid 1700's to form a large 0.22 square Km reservoir to feed the Sankey Navigation Canal. It is the largest body of water in Merseyside. (England)

I'm leaving university to go to Canada in 16 days! I'm really excited but also very very sad because I won't see Aaron for 6 months :(
He's going to America for his second year at university and will leave for America while I'm still in Canada. I won't see him till Christmas (that's if he comes back then). But I'm going to visit him in Colorado over easter and stay with him for a week or so! But that won't be for over a year.
I hope the time goes fast.

* We don't think the Tokyo Olympics will be held anymore.
There is no time for that. That is no longer possible.
We don't care about the Olympics such a small thing anymore.
There is concern about the collapse of the medical system in Japan.
