The Evans, 1948. Touring bicycle. 25 inch. Almost entirely origional finish and equipment. The bag is a very old Carradice and has had a couple of repairs. Carradice replaced the leather edging to the pocket flaps for a very reasonable sum about ten years ago. The dowell collapsed through woodworm!! It has been replaced along with a couple of straps. It is still sound and has many years left in it! The horn is probably from an early motorbike and packs a good punch. The Evans covered 100 miles in a CTC event a couple of years ago. It is very laid back at 70 degree angles seat and head.

She hates him. Always has.

100/365 -

Holy cow! I've stuck with this 365 thing for 100 days! Crazy.

Went to the beach with the gang this evening. I took off on my own down the shoreline a bit to get a bit closer to the bridge. The closer I got to it the more massive it seemed. I stood there water calm, beach dark and secluded. I can't even being to describe how small I felt. Not in a bad way. Just in a 'this world is so much bigger than me and sometimes I really need to remember that' kind of way. It was peaceful.

Through good research and some good luck I now know this man is Lieutenant John Forsythe of Company L of the 102nd Pennsylvania Infantry. This is confirmed by cemetery records. And I will re-post him in all the groups.

The 102nd Pennsylvania Infantry was organized at Pittsburgh in August, 1861 and mustered out on June 28, 1865. They were at the Seven Days Battles, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, The Wilderness, Spottsylvania, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, Appomattox, and many other battles. They were present at the surrender of General Lee and took part in the Grand Review on June 8th, 1865. The regiment lost 10 Officers and 171 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 1 Officer and 81 Enlisted men by disease for a total of 263.

Adelaide 99 years old.

Since the begining when I added to the project www.flickr.com/groups/100strangers/ I imagine starting with a kid or an old person, and here she is, Adelaide, a very gentle elegant lady that spends summer time in a mountain,s house (where my mother in law) in order to have company and care and avoid very hot weather in the city during summer time. I saw her walking and talking with her friend and I felt that she was for sure the best candidate to open this project. She is very proud about her 99 and her excellent health condition, and she has an strong reason to be. Thank you beautiful lady.

Matt was the first stranger I took on todays 100 stranger shoot in London.

I had just come out of the tube station with my brother Peter and we were sorting our kit when Matt walked past, so I had to jump at the chance to ask him for his portrait.

He was kind enough to move a little way up the street and stand next to some cool brickwork that I thought would make a more gritty urban portrait.

Matt is a charity worker in London, and was rocking some particularly cool hair.

Cheers Matt for being part of my project and I hope you like your portrait.

In the outer ring of the GAR circle in Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln, Nebraska. The tree that ate the Lieutenant I have a couple of pictures of this tree eating the Lieutenant in my Unknows folder. We had a couple of bad storms in September and the tree, an old oak suffered heavy damage. I have pictures of it in my Cemeteries folder. This is how they're dealing with it. I'm very impressed by the trouble they're going through to avoid disturbing the stone or any remains. I have no idea if they are going to leave it like this and let nature take it's course or if they will do more work to expose the stone.

Silvia, on the left, created this Day of the Dead altar and won first place at the San Pedro, CA altar contest. Her sister, on the right, told me all this since Silvia did not speak English and was very humble as she had to be encouraged to come into the photo. This altar is a tribute to her dead relatives.

As I finished the pictures of my last two strangers another interesting person walked by, intent on returning quickly to the cafe next door.

At first he wasn't too keen on a photo but I introduced myself anyway and am pleased to have met Lewis, who it turns out is a friend of both Deanna and Ainsley. As I explained about the project Lewis agreed, slightly reluctantly but encouraged by his friends, to a photo, looking straight to the camera for a few frames.

Before heading back to work Lewis explained that he had completed a Cert IV in Training and Assessment and was keen to do some travel in the future.

Thank you Lewis for being a part of my project and I wish you all the success for your future.

Presumably for the SOTU, insanely bright spotlights were aimed in the general direction of the Capitol from atop a building a few blocks away. The shadows, in general, were wild, but this silhouette of a tree on the 100 foot tall Robert A. Taft Memorial Carillon blew me away.

This is Angel, who I shot in Nottingham.

I saw him early in the day, when he flew past on his bike. I wished he had been going slower, as he looked like an amazing character and I thought he would be perfect for the project.

Later in the day I again saw him riding up the street, so I walked across to intercept him and he happily stopped and agreed to let me take his photo.

He told me his name was Angel, and when I asked what he does, he replied 'this'.

He was certainly an interesting character to chat to!

Thanks Angel for being part of the project and I hope you like the shots.

A picture I took for an assignment for my course

I met Kalana on Oak Street Beach one very unseasonably warm day in early March. I had been out street shooting all day and we decided to walk over to the beach since it was such a gorgeous day out. I had taken a few shots of Kalana reading and relaxing on the beach before I approached her and asked her if she would be part of my 100 Strangers Project. Kalana is from Hawaii and has been in Chicago for the past two years. She is a student at the Moody Bible Institute.

Thank you, Kalana, for being number 20 in my 100 Strangers Project.
