Strobist: AB1600 with gridded 60 X30 softbox camera left. Triggered by Cybersync.

The Alum Creek park Owl has been sitting in a suburb of Ohio's second largest city for a month. the young male is unfazed by the human admirers, but quite impressed by the rodent density under the dam. We visited it and in the 30 minutes we were there, the sleepy owl would scan the are every few minutes, checking the sky, the rocks, the grass...and all of the sudden he perked up. within few seconds he took off, landed on a rodent, and had his breakfast. With the equivalent of 1275mm... all I could do is try to get as much of him into the frame. More frames in a few days.

Ski design #1: This ski design is all about my experience at Alpine Meadows. I started by going through pictures I have taken at Alpine Meadows over the years, which naturally fell into four subject/color categories- blue sky, green trees, white snow, and brown dirt. I cropped triangles from my favorite shots, grouped them by category and let them fall down the skis. I added to that a diagram of my typical lift riding pattern at Alpine, and one of the promotional shots of Lily the ski patrol dog because she has always been my favorite even though (or perhaps because) she rarely let me pet her. I'd call them Shards.

Every weekend, Conrail gathered locomotives along the former Reading tracks serving Pennsylvania’s anthracite regions (now R&N), and sent them to Enola for servicing. The westbound move is seen here at Rockville, just minutes from its destination. At the other end, Conrail GP10 7580 is pulling eight ex-Reading SW900’s and the GP15-1 seen here.

MOC: Post Office. A modern interpretation of the classic set 6689, "Post-Station".

Part of my "Updated Classics" series - an ever-growing number of sets I've re-interpreted in order to make them fit better with modern LEGO City vehicles and buildings.

I kept this one quite small, as I didn't feel it needed to grow so much to still be realistic, but I've added what I think of as an expansion to the original building, a post storage room. The colours are the same, there's a mailbox integrated in the facade, and the bicycle remains. The stickers are the same style as the originals, but these come from MiniStickers.nl - they're selling a nice sheet with various mail-related stickers.

The building style is reminiscent of the one I've used for other recent buildings of mine, but with the difference that this has a slanted roof, unlike the others that are flat. But that's because the original has a slanted roof.

The building also has attachment points placed according to the LEGO Modular building standard on the left side, which means it can be integrated in a modular layout.

“Serendipity. Look for something, find something else, and realize that what you've found is more suited to your needs than what you thought you were looking for.”

~ Lawrence Block ~

“One aspect of serendipity to bear in mind is that you have to be looking for something in order to find something else.”

"I have learned to appreciate giving up control in order to allow myself permission to simply experiment and take chances with my imagery. It’s the spontaneity and coincidence of this type of work that results in the gift of capturing a vision that would otherwise go unseen. The majority of these images have little work done beyond what could traditionally be done in the darkroom (cropping, dodging and burning, color and tonal corrections). All of the motion is captured in camera."

~ Julieanne Kost ~

I wanted to get out this morning and shoot (and post) something on 10-10-10. At the same time I've been wanting to try something that was inspired by Julieanne Kost in this article. The only post-processing were some contrast adjustments, removing a sensor spot, adding a mask for the edging and adding my icon.

I'll be back in a day or two with more shots from my recent journey to the sea....

It's been a while - a year, exactly - since I've posted on Flickr. There are numerous reasons for that, of which I won't bore anyone with details.

This is a recent(ish) photo of some teeny tiny moss captured in a lowland forest surrounding Mt. Rainier. This was a wonderful, peaceful, misty rainy, late morning of wandering around some random trails where elk poop outnumbered people by at least 1000 x 1.

Thanks for looking & I hope to catch up with everyone very soon!
