A closer version of the same crocus using the same pp. SLightly more natural color outcome I think. The helicoid extension tube I use allows quite a range of macro from about 1:1 to 2:1 I think.

The station of Franklin D Roosevelt on line 1 is under heavy renovation. This renovation is part of a giantic project of automation of the bussiest line of the métro system.

(M)(1) s'automatise...

Line 1 will be transformed into a full automatic métro like we know already from line 14 (the 'Méteor'). The first step is the renovation of the stations where necessary and to make them ready for automatic metro trains. The most important thing is the installation of an automatic facade on the platforms. Those facades open simultaneously with the doors of the train. The progress in four steps from now (August 2009):

March 2009

The station Bérault at Vincennes was the first station with an automatic facade.

Summer 2010

All 25 stations of line 1 will be equiped with automatic facades. The stations are ready for automatic operation.

End 2010

The first new automatic trains will on service on line 1 in combination with the trains with driver.

2012

Métro line 1 will be fully automatic operated. All new automatic shuttle trains are on service and the current trains will be moved to métro line 4.

MÉTRO LINE 1

La Défense - Château de Vincennes

Total length : 16,2 km

Number of stations: 25 (1 aérien)

Date of opening: 19 July 1900

Number of trains during rush hours: 47 (interval of 1m45)

♥♥ I love hog maws! ♥♥, and my favorite way to eat them is:

1) I tilt my head back,

2) I lay a maw across my face, and

3) I slurp the maw into my mouth handsfree, noisily and wetly.

Different U.S. people pronounce "hog maw" different ways depending upon the degree to which the talk in their respective regions exhibits the father-bother and cot-caught mergers re: vowel phonology.

For businesses to tape up paper signage outdoors and have it not be vandalized nor stolen is a signal that a neighborhood is low-crime and that its youths are contented — perhaps especially so when the signage in question is describing different kinds of porks.

I was tagged a bit ago, by www.flickr.com/photos/icklemia/ , there's getting less and less of me every time I upload an SP.

There were supposed to be 10 facts and 10 tags but I've just cleared instead of pasting my facts so I'll do it tomorrow now. Have a great Easter everyone.

Sorry to anyone I've tagged, feel free to IGNORE THIS!

Ack! I can't think of 10 facts I haven't already imparted in previous tags.

ok, heres 1...I have an aversion to karaoke...I would never do it if you paid me A LOTTA LOTTA money! could be because I failed miserably in a talent show when I was younger, when the pianist failed me (left the music at home so I had to sing without), and I forgot the words mid song...I died...really did...the audience just sat there and stared...as they would...and I just stared back....traumatised for life I was.

2...I am not particularly tidy, but I am an obsessive washer of everything...I have to wash everything ...cutlery, pans, plates...at least twice before I'll use it again.

3...I've just recently gone back to contact lenses, paying my monthly fee, and I keep forgetting I've got them and find myself wearing my specs all day

4...The reason you only get close ups of me, apart from i'm not particularly keen on selfies, is that I always shoot handheld, I haven't got my head around how to do a self-portrait yet, so if anyones got any tips (I do have a remote before you ask) or pointers in the direction of tuts, I'd be very grateful.

5...Today we cleaned the barbie, and the sun went in...but I don't care, the burgers and beer are making their first appearance of the year in a minute, even if it rains!

6...I lied about the beer making its first appearance of the year

7...I still haven't got my passport sorted, but I will...totally irrelevant fact...but aren;t they all?

8...The one thing I hate more than anything else is putting people in a position where they feel obliged to do something, so although i'm going to tag ten people, don't feel obliged to act upon it, or feel free to interpret an sp as loosely as you like...blur it, whatever, I don't want to make you feel bad...

9...I am a terrible cook...no...not true...I could probably cook really well if it was something I wanted to do...but to be honest...I hate cooking. I wish I didn't though. I wish I could find as much fun in cooking as I do in loads of other things I class as hobbies...but I don't.

A Little Valentine, Steve McCaffery (Canada, 1977); source: Steve McCaffery, research on the mouth (Toronto, Underwhich Editions, 1978?), transcribed by jwcurry & Sheena Mordasiewicz (Canada, 2o12). a trystcycle built for 2 interpenetrates itself to become a relentless rush toward simultaneous climax. duo: curry/Mathewson

3. anacyclic poem with two shouts DHARMATHOUGHTS STUPAWARDS, dom sylvester houédard (Engalnd, 1966); source: KROKLOK #1 (ed.dom sylvester houédard; London, Writers Forum, 1971). A Visit to the Aviary, arr.jwcurry (Canada, 2o13); source: unpublished manuscript. not a medley but a concatenation of texts based on birdyak by Dureau de la Malle ("tinu, tinu, tinu, tiau"; France, 1947), Raoul Hausmann (Oiseautal; France, 1919) & Kurt Schwitters (Super-Bird-Song; England, 1946). trio: curry/Pirie/Rosen

9. CANZONE RUMORISTA cantata in coro sui teatri d'Italia in ANICCAM del 2000, Fortunato Depero (Italy, 1916?); source: Imagining Language An Anthology, ed.Steve McCaffery & Jed Rasula (2nd ed, Cambridge, MIT Press, 2oo1). the more optophonetic of the but 2 texts thus far found from his suite of unknown size. solo

1o. "crickets", Aram Saroyan (USA, 1965?); source: LINES #6, ed.Aram Saroyan, New York, 1965). a variable-speed, multiturntable arrangement of a version heard in the play-off groove of an issue of i think it'd been OU magazine at Brian Dedora's in the early'8os. full quintet

11. CRODZIAC DZÉGOUM APIR, Claude Gauvreau (Canada, 1951?); source: unfortunately inaccessible at the moment but i suspect it to've been found in Caroline Bayard's The New Poetics in Canada and Quebec (Toronto, University Of Toronto Press, 1989). the protracted cacemphatonia of an audiophilologist with a bent toward the more obnoxious elements of pronuncimicational maledicta. solo

12. der minister, Jaap Blonk (Holland, 1989?), rescored in english by jwcurry (Canada, 2oo8); source: Japp Blonk, FLux be boucHE (Amsterdam, Staalplaat, 1993), with reference to an alternate translation quoted in RAMPIKE (possibly vol.12 #1, ed.Karl Jirgens; Toronto, 2oo2). disintegrational syntax in 2 contradictory complements. duo: partI, Pirie; part II, curry

13. Dew On The Newts We Got, Frank Zappa (USA, 197o?); source: Frank Zappa, 200 MOTELS (reissue, Salem, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Incorporated & Rykodisc, 1997). the 3rd movement (of 7) of the primarily choral suite I Have Seen The Pleated Gazelle. duo: curry/Lindsey

14. DOPPLEGANGER SONNETS, Victor Coleman (Canada, 197-?); source, Victor Coleman, CAPTIONS FOR THE DEAF (Toronto, Rumour Publications, 1979). six poems in one fix tones, win fun. section 3 is dedicated "for Harry Carmichael". duo: curry/Rosen

15. ears, Michelle April/jwcurry (Canada, 2oo6); source: INDUSTRIAL SABOTAGE #63 (ed.jwcurry; Ottawa, Curvd H&z, 2oo8). a rather straightforward poem relentlessly revised with an eye toward an ear. solo

16. East Wind, bpNichol (Canada, 1979?); source: Four Horsemen [Rafael Barreto-Rivera, Paul Dutton, Steve McCaffery, bpNichol], The Prose Tattoo (Milwaukee, Membrane Press, 1983). gridtext deployed across overlain breath lines, vowels blowing consonants all over the place. quartet: curry/Lindsey/Mathewson/Pirie

17. Generations, bpNichol (Canada, 1988); source: gIFTS The Martyrology Book(s) 7 (&) (Toronto, Coach House Press, 199o). numerical interpolations distract & enact between the given text & that given through the interferences. solo

18. Gil, Don Van Vliet (USA, 1968?); source: Don Van Vliet, Skeleton Blush Scorpion Breath (Bern, Verlag Gachnang & Springer, 1987). the tight list structure of this poem highlights its sonic globulence. solo

19. GLASS ON THE BEACH, Richard Truhlar (Canada, 1978?); source: Owen Sound, Beyond The Range (Toronto, Underwhich Editions, 198o), transcribed by jwcurry (Canada, 2o1o) from a trio (Michael Dean, Steven Smith, Richard Truhlar) recording at The Music Gallery in Toronto, 18 august 1979, with additional parts adapted from 2 manuscript scores courtesy of Truhlar. extended vocal waveforms with buried shards. full quintet

2o. GOING CRITICAL, jwcurry/Michèle Provost (Canada, 2oo9); source: ABSTrACTS / RéSUmÉS, ed.Michèle Provost (Gatineau, privately published, 2o1o). a sibilant example of extreme subsyllabic hocketing. full quintet

21. IT CAN'T HAPPEN HERE, Frank Zappa (USA, 1964); source: Mothers Of Invention [Jimmy Carl Black, Ray Collins, Roy Estrada, Elliot Ingber, Frank Zappa], FREAK OUT! (USA, Verve Records, 1965), transcribed & arr.by jwcurry (Canada, 2oo7). a somewhat remented barberchopping routine, part 2 of Help, I'm A Rock featuring Rachel Lindsey as Suzy Creamcheese ("O mama, now what's got into you?"). full quintet

22. KNOTS, jwcurry (Canada, 1982?); source: The (Almost) Instant Anthology '88, ed.Beverley Daurio, Daniel Jones & bpNichol (Toronto, Meet The Presses, 1988). excerpt from a "translation into concrete poetry" of R.D.Laing's lineated neuroses trackings. duo: curry/Mathewson

23. "kp'erioUM lp'erioum", Raoul Hausmann (Germany, 1918); source: IL COLPO DI GLOTTIDE, edLuciano Caruso, Henri Chopin, Laura Marcheschi & Steliomaria Martini (Firenze, Vallecchio, 198o). Hausmann's refined optophonetic scoring techniques, here still in linear form, introduced a means of maximum control with attendant improvisational opportunity. solo

24. LECTURE ON NOTHING, John Cage (USA, 1949?); source: John Cage, SILENCE (3rd ed, Middletown, Wesleyan University Press, 1976), arr.jwcurry (Canada, 2oo8). rescored in an arrangement for hocketed quartet from cues suggested by Cage's layout of the text, we will be interfering with its trajectory quite a bit with the interpolation of 35 works by others (2o multivoice, 15 solo) & 15 "silent silences" into the bars delineating its sections. quartet: curry/Lindsey/Mathewson/Pirie

25. Marcia futurista, F.T.Marinetti (Italy, 1916); source: as 23 above. an unrehearsed attack, Marinetti's merry march subjected to his own threat of "parole in liberta". full quintet

26. MESCAL RITE 1, Tomahawk (Duane Denison, Mike Patton, John Stanier; USA, 2oo7); source: Tomahawk, Anonymous (Orinda, Ipecac Recordings, 2oo7), transcribed & arr.by jwcurry (2o1o). chant (assumedly) devised to accellerate body rhythms to facilitate the onset of the drug. full quintet

27. "Not a", Aram Saroyan (USA, 1966?); source: Aram Saroyan, Sled Hill Voices (London, Goliard, 1966). stumbled upon while searching out the "crickets" variations, its hinge of silence & sound required its inclusion here. solo

28. Pieces Of Stop, bpNichol (Canada, 1978); source: as 16 above. "for Greta Monach", an extremely literal approach to this gridtext of reversed sound envelopes. quartet: Lindsey/Mathewson/Pirie/Rosen

29. Salmon River Soliloquy, David UU (Canada, 1973); source: David UU, High C (Toronto, Underwhich Editions, 1991). a tweaked list poem. solo

3o. Seepferdchen und Flugfische, Hugo Ball (Switzerland, 1916); source: another reference temporarily irretrievable but certainly present in Ball's seven sound poems (London, Writers Forum, 1977). one of the more playfully onomatopœic constructions from Ball's brief fling with "verse without words". solo

31. SIX-FOUR, Alastair Larwill (Canada, 2o1o); source: unpublished manuscript. "for Rob Read", a burst of accumulative disintegrational polysyllabicism. quartet: Lindsey/Mathewson/Pirie/Rosen

32. SIZERZ, Steve McCaffery (Canada, 1976); source: THE CAPILANO REVIEW #31 (ed.Steven Smith & Richard Truhlar; North Vancouver, 1984). scissored. full quintet

33. sounds' favorite words, Paul Haines (Canada, 1986); source: Paul Haines, DARN IT! (USA, American Clavé, 1994). they all bear repeating... solo

34. sweet suite suet, ernst jandl (Austria, 197o?); source: STEREO HEADPHONES #4 (ed.Nicholas Zurbrugg; Kersey, 1971). a notso straightforward lyric poem demonstrating severe semantic slippage. solo

35. The Multiples, Steve McCaffery (Canada, 1981); source: abs TruCt heh GarBagt, editor unknown (an insert in CABINET #1; New York, Immaterial Incorporated, 2ooo), transcribed by Rob Read (Canada, 2o11?). a multiplicity of mispronuncimicated masticatiums of eaneming. duo: curry/Lindsey

36. The Tibetan Memory Trick, trad.arr.by Howard Kaylan, Ian Underwood & Mark Volman (USA, 1974?); source: Flo & Eddie, ILLEGAL IMMORAL AND FATTENING (reissue, Albany, One Way Records, 1992). just a li'l labioglottalingual workout for the band (lampshade optional)... full quintet

37. VULKSTRAUT ON KURPATHIC WEQ, Cøghdur Krübben (Canada, 2oo6); source: monograph (Toronto, Kenkor, 2oo6). a cautionary. solo

38. WELTWEHE, August Stramm (Germany, 1914); source: KROKLOK #3 (ed.dom sylvester houédard; London, Writers Forum, 1972). Stramm's scope is nothing less than cosmic in this narrative composed almost solely of verbs, fuelled & shaped by the battlefields he wrote in & the ciphers he wired his poems out through. solo

I feel as though I've learned as much about photography is these past two weeks as I had in the 12 months preceding them. I am far from having had the practice to put it all into place, but I believe that I am a better photographer for it. I've done 4 things to help me get here:

1 - Invested in the videos and e-books of Ian Plant. They are just brilliant.

2 - Invested in a Wacom tablet and pen. It makes precision changes so much easier.

3 - Invested in a new Macbook Pro. This makes editing so much more a process of implementation, rather than one of waiting. This is especially true when I apply subtle adjustments - I need real time feedback, not spinning balls. Seeing images at this level of detail just inspires me to take sharper, cleaner images.

4 - I've stopped using ND grads and instead use bracketed exposures and use channel masks to blend. It's a 10 fold improvement in technique and means that I can process shots that I used to leave on the memory cards.

4.1 - I shoot in f/16 and manually focus using the little viewfinder indicator to help me know if I am in the right ball park.

This is a simple comp, but is still a blend of 2 shots as the rocks were in deep shadow when exposed for the sky. 2 blended Silver Efex Pro layers again.

Keep the Faith is the fifth studio album by American rock band Bon Jovi. Released on November 3, 1992 through Mercury Records. It is the last album to feature original bass guitarist Alec John Such, before his dismissal from the band in 1994. It was also Bon Jovi's first album since 1985's 7800° Fahrenheit not to be produced by Bruce Fairbairn. The album was produced by Bob Rock and was recorded at the Little Mountain Sound Studios in Vancouver, Canada. Keep the Faith represents the beginning of a new chapter in the history of Bon Jovi, marking a change of both the band's image and sound. Moving away from their early glam metal roots in previous albums, it introduced a more "rock n roll" driven groove to Bon Jovi's sound. The album turned away from heavy drums and wild guitar solos, but instead introduced a new sound of Bon Jovi which consisted of piano ballads and long epic guitar solos.

Keep The Faith peaked at number five on the US Billboard 200 chart while topping the charts in the UK and Australia. The album certified double-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The record produced several hits for the band, including "Keep the Faith", "Bed of Roses" and "In These Arms". The album was ranked No. 21 on Kerrang!'s "100 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" and in 2006, the album featured in the Classic Rock & Metal Hammer's "The 200 Greatest Albums of the 90's

PGT Group - "Project 7"

Day 1, I started a day early, having insight into the challenge ;)

Saturday morning SCRABBLE Game.

dix [10] de trois six cinq.

this song is called Day to Day by Eulogies.

i've been tagged, here are some facts... :)

-1) i'd really been looking forward to this weekend. on friday i hoped to hang out with mickie, saturday i was going to boston to visit some family friends and go out for dinner. sunday my two friends and i were going to take a bus to newport for the day. now friday i think i have to go bowling for my cousin's second birthday, saturday my dad is going to a concert so the plan was cancelled, and sunday was cancelled as well. i feel really selfish for being so upset but i can't help it.

-2) you can bet i fell down these stairs several times when trying to pose quickly and walking down to check the pictures.

-3) next year i'm going to paris, france for a week and i've never been so excited for anything every before.

-4) i'm a harry potter fanatic/freak/loser/nerd/geek/whateveryouwanttocallme.

-5) THIS definitely makes me look pregnant. you have to admit it.

-6) in the past few weeks my grades have slipped...

-7) a comfort of mine is hearing airplanes overhead. it reminds me of the noise in Lost just before a flashback is played.

-8) when i find out people use drugs or drink underage i cannot respect them.

-9) i'm so obsessed with the Zelda: Twilight Princess video game for gamecube. but i'm horrid at video games so it's been a long struggle.

-10) i feel so lost. save me? :]

BAM! 13/52 ~ I got this idea from Red, a beautiful flickr friend (to see her wonderful shot like this, click here) My other dear friend, Cristin found me this bottle of wine with my name on it! It was delicious, by the way! Red wine is my favorite. I am also going to do a two-fer here...I was recently tagged by Andy and so here are my multiple choice questions. Double exposures project with Denise! June 2019.

I used a Pentax Espio and shot a whole roll of Kodak Gold 200 35mm film. Then I rewound it and sent it to Denise who took her photos over the top using a Canon AT-1. I was at home in Oxfordshire in the UK and Denise was in Wichita, Kansas USA!

For more information on how these type of double exposures work, click www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTuV1AK0mBA

i think i'm gonna stay; gonna stay in the gray. i think i'm gonna stay. and all the streetlights say nevermind, nevermind; and all the canyon lines say nevermind, nevermind. and the sunset says, we see this all the time; nevermind, never you mind. wherever i go, what ever i do, i wonder where i am in my relationship to you. wherever you go, wherever you are, i watch you life play out in picture from afar.

Storm Dennis (day 1)

I, like most Brits, love the weather and talking about it. I am sure that growing up and before I joined the Air Force, there were few flooding events. I'd like to think I would remember.

But this century there seems to be flooding every year, winter and summer. Something has changed. Many things have changed.

And storms like Dennis, an almost record low pressure of 917 mb was heading our way. Strong winds, torrential rain, flooding, building damage. Again, just a week after the last named storm.

Luckily for us, it was due to hit later on Saturday, at least here in Kent, so we could get out and do some stuff first.

First of all was to go to the butcher, as Mark had posted that they had made a batch of wild garlic sausages, made with hand picked ramsons, and these are just wonderful. So, while Jools went on the cross trainer, I got in the car and drover over to Preston to get the meat.

Traffic was very light, except the dick that tailgated me as I drove away from Sandwich. But I arrived safe after inching my way through the flooded lanes at Nash. The guys were, as ever, in great spirits, but the guy who picks the wild garlic has just lost his wife, and it is possible that this will be the last batch they will make.

Oh I know where there are loads, I can get you some fresh ramsons.

Have this steak cheap, have this free cheese. And so on, I think they want me to get the wild garlic.

So I had better do it next weekend.

Laden with meat and pork pies, I walk to the car and drive home. I was now running a little behind as we talked about football so much. But back home Jools had breakfast ready to cook upon my return; croissants to warm through, coffee pot to bring to the boil. Even so once we had eaten ad drunk, there was barely enough time to gather our stuff together and get to Dover to meet our friend, Will.

We had not seen Will since his marriage some five years ago, and since then he and his wife have bought their own house, got new jobs, had a daughter and now waiting for the birth of their second child, a son. So, quite some catching up to do.

He arrived on the twenty past nine bus from Canterbury, and he had just got off as we pulled up, so we let him get in, laden with camera gear, and we set off for Ashford and then the Romney Marsh. His partner had suggested he get back into photography, and he thought of coming along with me on a shoot.

There would be churches I said.

Fine he said.

From Ashford we took the road to the marsh, tailgated again by some throbber who overtook when it was dangerous, and nearly had a head on crash. He got ahead, and then we caught up with him at the roundabout a couple of miles further along.

First stop was the always picturesque Fairfield church.

Fairfield is no longer a place as such, if it ever was The church sits on a island made of drainage ditches and Hastead says people used to reach it for services in boats. What we see now was constructed in the early 20th century, though Hastead again say

s that the church he describes was not that different to what we see now, and that church was probably a recent construction.

The key is hanging outside the nearest house, so I go and get that while Jools and Will walk to the church.

I soon join them, walking along the top of dykes and over wooden bridges until I reach the church, the large key turned in the lock of a door that is clearly centuries older than the church itself.

It is as it always is, clean and pure; box pews and a triple level pulpit. Years old hops still hung from the hand-hewn rafters. We get our shots, not taking that long before we go to leave. And meet a dogwalking couple and pass the key to them, with instructions on where to leave it once they were done.

We go back to the car, then turn round and go to nearby Brookland to visit the church there. St Augustine has a unique bell tower, but one I have not seen inside of. Maybe it would be open?

No it wouldn't. Though the church was.

I snap it again, just because we were there, and Will also snaps it, he seems to like snapping churches.

With the wind building, we go into Sussex to go to Camber Sands, as there is a west-facing sandy beach, and we hoped it would be.

Camber is home to a large holiday camp, once the mainstay of the British holiday. This one is hanging on, though not in February when not even the British would consider a seaside holiday.

There are other hardy souls, most with dogs in tow, so we park then walk up the sandy path leading up the dune. It was OK until the slope flattened out, and we got the westerly straight into our faces. Wind-borne sand grit-blasted our faces, and at ground level the sand in the air could be seen making patterns as it flowed through the tussock grasses.

We reach the beach, find we can't speak to each other as our words are stolen from our very mouths, so I indicate I was going back to the car, Jools and Will agree.

Just up the road is Lydd, home of the largest church on the Marsh, though not on the Marsh, really. On the way we see swans and geese in the fields, feeding on winter crops, and on a lake I catch a glimpse of a smew.

Lydd is a fine old town, but the chuch towers over all other buildings, and the nave is on as grand scale too, 199 feet long.

It is open, so we go in and the church is so vast that the wide angle lens isn't really needed, the 50mm getting most of the building in.

I take shots of the monuments and details, and point out to Will some of the features. Not sure if he's impressed or bored. He says the former.

Once that was shot, time had crept on and was now half twelve. We had already decided to go to the Woolpack at Brookland, so went back down the coast road then along to the turn off. We find we were the only ones on the main bar, and after ordering drinks we tae seats in the chimney to warm up, and for me to take a photo.

The Woolpack is a 15th century pub, and not a flat surface or right angle anywhere. Only downside is the poor choice of ales, either Spitfire or Masterbrew.

We then moved to a table and ordered ploughman's all round, and waited until the food arrived.

By then the wind was building outside, so we decide to cut the afternoon short, and take Will back home to Herne Bay.

Back off the Marsh to Ashford then up to Challock to Faversham, and back along the M2 and Thanet Way to his house. We turn down a cuppa as once again I had forgotten my allergy spray, so we had to get home so I could breathe again.

We get home at half three, with the football in full swing. Over a fresh brew I sort through pictures and listen to the footy on TV, multitasking at the highest level.

The first Type 1 I purchased, showing off her skateboard.

This poor little car needed $5K in parts and a paint job when I bought it, and it still needed them when I sold it. I'd also spent $5K on parts and service I didn't realize I would need. Oh dear!

The unexpected started with a broken McPherson strut... although I'd paid for a professional inspection, they hadn't spotted this problem, or a number of others. I hadn't put it into 5th gear before I owned it, that pinion bearing whine was on me. As was buying the thing at all.

The next unexpected expense was the exotic latex novelty that sealed the front windshield-to-sunroof joint, since water leaked in when it rained. That was a bunch of hundreds of dollars and a long adventure with Wurth rubber prep. The actual problem was the front track for the wind-up window, which looks like a vent wing but doesn't open. The aluminum track is curved, and holds the side window in the right place to seal with the sunroof... whomever had stolen the radio from the Dreaded Previous Owners had smashed the little triangular window for access. They'd also bent the track, so the window and roof didn't meet correctly for water-tight sealing. Hey, that's not even the expensive seal I replaced! Indeed. Turns out there's a grub screw and two lock nuts at the bottom of the door, that adjusts the front rail. So if it gets bent, you can dial it back in. I may be the only person outside the Karman factory who knowns about this thing, it isn't mentioned in the references I had. But I found it and used it as intended.

Next we needed new rear-view mirrors, outside first. The cheap, plastic, external, mirror, the Dreaded Previous Owners had installed, fell off while I was driving it home. After getting past that, the rotted out plastic front of the original inside rearview mirror disintegrated and the mirror fell off its mount. I bought used exterior mirrors and a new interior mirror. Slightly cheaper than the rubber parts.

The next water leak was the often encountered flooded back trunk, a problem some solve with a drill making a drain hole... Ouch! It turns out the real source of the leak into the back trunk is worn out foam seals on the rear light fixtures. The 914 has Hella lights, just like you'd expect, but the "bucket" that the lamps seat in is mounted from outside, trapping a foamy rubber seal between the bucket and the steel body. Until the rubber loses its resilience. Then it leaks water from outside, The leak has nothing to do with the clear/translucent cover, its happening outside the area the cover is over. Not cheap, buying a new bucket to get a new seal. But it DOES fix the problem. AND I learned about un-cured Butyl rubber to make your own trim seals...

And so on and so forth. There were replacement nylon gizmos inside the exterior door handles. There were damper valves on the warm air from the heat exchangers to the defroster/heater. There was U shaped piece of solid steel wire with cylindrical cast-on diddly bobs that the damper valve clamps to... except one was too long to fit through the steel pipe welded into the unibody. A little filing fixed that. One front marker light had rotted and neither lit nor kept out water... replacement pieces and some quality time got that one. The leather wrapped, padded, steering wheel suffered from exposure and failing stitching. I bought the hard plastic version for $25 and rather enjoyed it. Real boy-racers prefer padded, leather-wrapped steering wheels, of course. The horn didn't work, clean-up brought it back.

The front windshield was pitted and scarred, and also loose in its mount. It was not a H shaped rubber seal like the Porsche 356 or Beetles, Ghias and Busses. The rubber seal had a heating wire embedded, and the installation consisted of putting the windshield in place, connecting the embedded wire to a 12V source, leave for several hours, confirm seal.

Even after the broken strut was replaced, and some right and ready alignment performed at the shop, it still needed a real alignment on all 4 wheels. Cost about as much as the rubber parts for the roof, and the transformation was wonderful. It had "chirped" when turning in. That stopped, and steering became a wonderful experience. You could feel if the yellow or white stripes on the road were one coat or two. I could do power-induced oversteer (all of 85 hp...) wheeee!

And on and on. $600 mailed off to someone in the Porsche Owners Club produced 5 Pedrini alloy wheels, the 4 bolt alternative to steel wheels... but I like the looks of the steel wheels, to tell the truth. Never needed to buy new tires, never mounted the Pedrinis. I remember doing front wheel bearings, so probably replaced the front pads and brake rotors too.

Since it came without a radio, there didn't seem any point to keeping the Ford Mustang antenna mounted on the passenger side front fender, so that hole was professionally filled and primer and sanding coat laid over it, when I was having self-inflicted front bumper damage and a factory installed defect in the back trunk lid fixed.

Amazingly, given its a VW Porsche and built by Karman, the piece of sheet steel for the outside of the back trunk was a bit short, so when it was pressed and the back lip rolled under and the internal bracing web welded on, there was a gap in the rolled-under lip which allowed water (!) to get between the rolled halves and was slowly rusting out the back edge of the back trunk lid. Hence primer and sanding coat on the back edge of the back trunk lid.

And then, one day, the rust-prone inverted pyramid shape that supported the battery tray did fail, rusting out at the bottom, and the battery rocked back and forth and back and forth until only the ground strap was keeping it upright... at which point the ground strap parted and everything was suddenly very quiet... All of which revealed the surface rust on the passenger side stamped steel rocker tube which gives the 914 unibody its primary fore and aft and twisting strength... I was starting to get smarter, so a neighbor who enjoyed welding on cars put 2X thickness straps on the top of the sheet steel tube, installed the new pyramid and battery tray. Red, rattle-can spray paint was a surprisingly good match to the exterior paint.

Lesser problems included a leaking pushrod tube seal, fixed by removing the rocker assembly, the pushrods and the leaking tube, replacing its Viton rubber seals and reassembling.

There was also the time it was fine, then ran on 3 cylinders, then was fine, then ran on 3 cylinders. I punted and took it to a shop. Turned out one of the solid cam-follower / lifters had come apart- in Type IV VW engines, the lifter is a multi piece afair, an outer "cup" and an inner bar, welded together instead of being machined from a single bar or cast / forged and finished. If the weld between inner and outer parts fails, the inner part acts just like the moving part in a hydraulic lifter, oil pressure "pumps up" the inside bit and the valve opens deeper, and maybe doesn't close at all. Hence running on 3 cylinders.

After I'd given up and decided to sell, I went for one last drive to Santa Cruz and up highway 1 for sheer pleasure. All that desire, all that time, all that money... at least I'd enjoy a couple of hours jaunt... but it was not to be, as always. Parked by the blow-hole north of Light House Point, it wouldn't start when I came back after a ramble. The dreaded vapor lock that the stock fuel pump and filter location made possible got me! I DID swap one of the headlamp motor relays for the fuel pump relay, that didn't help, so the problem was everything being too hot and time to cool down would fix it. Probably.

I went for another walk around, and it started when I got back. I don't think I was up for tempting fate with a drive up 1, I just went home.

Bottom line: Buying a Corrado with 60 months of payments was cheaper, in cashflow terms. Less rewarding in terms of power induced oversteer. But it had powerful ABS, the leather interior was wonderful, it seated 4 in a pinch and went like hell.

I have wanted to try out the lens combo; Pentax 60-250mm with a Tamron 1.4 x HSM tele converter, for quite some time.

This is a crop, covering appr. 6 (25%) of the total 24 Mp frame.

Not tack sharp perhaps or very crisp, and quite useable, I think. I guess I could have used a better tripod. Shake Reduction is not an option with this combo :-(

250 + 100 = 350 mm, resembling appr. 525 mm for full frame (24x36mm).

I was tagged today by Puzzlemint (thanks girl) to list 25 things about me. I'm tagging five people too.

Here goes:

1. I am NOT a fan of summertime weather!

2. I wish I could eat cake & ice cream for breakfast every day!

3. I have been in weight watchers for 6 weeks to lose weight because I like sweets & french fries too much!

4. One night at work, on a quiet weather day, the electricity flickered on & off once quickly & I found out later that at that exact time my father passed away. I think he came to say goodbye.

5. I was a competitive gymnast until I was 15.

6. Every night before bed, I get on my ipod & feed the fish in my ten tanks on Tap Fish. I'm addicted!

7. I love ghost stories!

8. My husband lets me sleep in & takes the kids to school. I feel guilt but I hate mornings.

9. My tubes are tied but I sometimes wish I could have just one more. A daughter would be nice to add to my sweet family!

10. My husband helps me color my hair with henna. I love him for that!

11. I was a VERY shy as a kid, but made the cheerleading squad my junior year. I don't think I ever would have been crowned Basketball Royalty Queen had I been brave enough to try out for cheer. I was quite proud of that.

12. But I still feel ill at ease at social gatherings.

13. I'm DYING for a soda right now!!!!! It's been 6 weeks!

14. My life is GREAT right now. I'm just happy!

15. I got a 25% paycut recently & was crushed! But I know things will be all right.

16. I'm a die hard fan of America's Next Top model. I hate if I have to miss it! Seems like a silly show for a 41 year old to love but I don't care. ;0)

17. Just minutes ago, I finished making deviled eggs for the FIRST TIME. I have a feeling they aren't going to be good! ;0)

18. I'm hoping I don't have to get a new job (since I got the paycut) because I love having about 3 weeks off each month.

19. I went to see double features at the movies 2 weeks in a row & could have seen more! I love the movie theatre experience & even get teary-eyed during previews! I'm such a goob!

20. I've been to 40 of the 50 United States & seen 16 countries but haven't travelled in about 4 years. I'm READY for more!

21. Yesterday, my dog & I laid in the grass for about 20 minutes enjoying the sun & wind. The photo for this post is one of the photos I took while laying there. It was fabulous!

22. 2 days ago, the first thought I had when I wolk up was that it was my mom's birthday & I need to call her. I did & completely forgot to wish her a Happy Birthday. A few hours later at work, I felt so bad when I remembered that I rushed to the mall for a present & a cake & ran to her house. Bad daughter!

23. I love to buy new music for my ipod but I don't listen to it that often. NERD!

24. I wish I could take lots of art classes.

25. I love fruit smelling lotions more than flowery ones.

Des Moines Art Center. Des Moines, Iowa.

Portfolio Candidate 1, I didn’t want a typical amount Rainier shot so I tried something a bit different and punched into the mountain a bit. I personally like how tight it is, even though naturally I am wanting more in the photo staring at the mountain everyday.

German postcard by Verlag Hermann Leiser, no. 5559. Photo: Deutsche Vitascope. Ludwig Trautmann as Detective Kelly Brown in Menschen und Masken, 1. Teil/

People and masks, Part 1 (Harry Piel, 1913).

German film actor Ludwig Trautmann (1885-1957) was the first German film star. Between 1912 and 1955, he appeared in 69 films, and also wrote, produced, and directed several films. In the Nazi period, he was prosecuted because of homosexual acts.

I got tagged by my good friend,Vanouxe

to do this new year thing where you have to write 16 things about yourself. After much thought, I decided to give it a go.....

1. I'm scared of heights so you can imagine how I felt when my husband encouraged me to give paragliding a go in Turkey. I'm glad that I did at the end. Not sure that I would do it again....... I even get this nervous feeling down my arms when I watch someone else hang off a cliff on TV!

2. I was born in Hong Kong, lived in Australia since I was an infant and now England has been my home for the seventh year. Danny is Slovenian Australian so you can guess how confused our future kids will be!!!

3. I speak with a heavy Australian accent. It's so heavy that people are always surprised when they finally meet me after hearing my voice. However despite this, I speak fluent Cantonese, Mandarin and some Spanish. I also speak some Arabic due to the clients I treat at work. My old flat mate use to have to remind herself that it was me in the next room whenever I spoke to my family in Chinese as she forgets that I AM chinese originally due to my Aussie accent.

4. I have played the classical piano since I was four years old. In fact, my music teacher was going to train me to be a concert pianist when i was 12. I actually taught piano on the side for ten years before I moved to England. However, I ended up as a physiotherapist instead. By chance, I now work with singers to teach them breathing exercises to augment their singing and to reduce laryngeal strain. It's funny how my career went back to my musical background.

5. I have travelled to all the continents of the world, except antarctica of course! Traveling was the reason why I started film photography ten years ago. I thought that my SLR was heavy then. Little did I know that they only became heavier with digital photography.

6. I met my husband Danny who is also from Australia on the other side of the world. The first time I met him, I asked him if he knew I guy I knew from a small city where Dan's from. He DID! Talk about six degrees of separation.

7. I'm not a morning person.

8. I am an anal perfectionist and I can be extremely competitive when I learn something. However, Danny reckons that sometimes I "don't pay attention to detail".

9. My first memories of my life that I can remember was when I was about a year and a half old. I remember begging my mother for a refund at the age of two when she presented my little brother and all I wanted was a little sister. hehe.

10. I am a chronic fidgeter!

11. My family and husband say that I am constantly humming and singing subconsciously. I like to make up words of my own to well known songs. This amuses Danny.

12. I am only 5'2'' but I have been told that my personality makes up for it!

13. 5 years ago, I backpacked around South America by myself. It was a life-changing experience and it really toughened me up.

14. I hate rodents and freak out at the thought or sight of them.

15. I love scuba-diving and have been lucky to do that in some of the most beautiful areas in the world- The Great Barrier Reef, Thailand, The Red Sea, Cuba, Croatia to name a few. I once dived down to 55 metres in Dubrovnik, Croatia where I saw a WWII carrier wreck.

16. I hate vacuuming and hair dryers as the noise really irritates me.

So that was my 16. Phew! That was hard work!

A little red aphid laughing at me.

May 1: I'm back to macros of flowers, but only because this and one other pink poppy are such a cheerful contrast to the reds and oranges of the rest of the poppies: I just had to capture the color. The aphid was a bonus. (Well, photographically, anyway.)

Gave Yasmin's hair a wash & condition and the nylon's texture is much better.

The odd thing about her, Jade & Cloe is that, for dolls that have been sitting around at TRU for a year and a half, their boxes have barely any shelf wear. Also, their little instruction books are not in English but Russian. (?)

During 1981 we made a couple of trips to the Great Central Railway to see the Great Northern Sterling Single, Locomotive No 1.

I have no record of the actual dates other than a recollection that one trip we made in the winter and the other the following Autumn.
