WEEK 27 – Southaven Walmart, 2015 Remodel (IV)

While all those prior exterior pics were a mix of some from 2017 and some from 2019, this one takes us way back, in fact to a time before the Cheap Impact remodel we just saw was even finished: this pic was taken on October 11, 2015, while the grand reopening was held November 13, as we saw back at the teaser photo for this album. As you can see, the exterior didn’t change a bit in design from the original Project Impact paint job, although (as you might have guessed) they most assuredly repainted it and replaced the signage anyway, haha! (Again: what a waste…)

At least the 2020 remodel did make more changes where those cosmetic updates are concerned… and speaking of the 2020 remodel, while that will be the next we’ll see of this store, fair warning that it will probably be quite some time before I get around to sharing it. Reasons being: 1) I’ve got a whale of a backlog to get through, and I like to space out revisits to the same store/chain so as to feature other stores/chains in the meantime… 2) while reason 1 there will mean it’s a while before we get to *any* other Walmart, I still probably will feature another Walmart before this one anyhow, since I have others waiting that are much more interesting… and 3) frankly, the décor introduced in the 2020 remodel sucks, haha! So I doubt y’all will be very sad that I’m not uploading it anytime soon XD

Okay!...seems like the tagging game is in full swing now….i’ve been tagged by Aftab vai, Aabha, Jalisha, Jycee, Shurovi and Ena ……..so yea, here goes..

1.I know what you’re thinking about my hair…I’ve heard that so many times in my life, even from random strangers in the streets…that it looks like that of our Rebel Poet ..i used to hate that, but now I take it as a compliment =)

2.And although my deshi people don’t seem to be fans of my hair, it was quite the opposite in China, Malaysia, Thailand…people would ask, ‘Wo! Where did you pump and curl your hair?’, because it was something they would like to do if they got bored of their perfect silky black hair.. =P

3.I have a particular accent, which is similar to that of the US…and people usually ask me within minutes of having the fist conversation with me, ‘Did you ever lived in the US?’ …which I didn’t, and the thing is, that’s just how I speak, be it in Bangla, English or any other language.. =S

4.I love talking to cats and dogs in the streets…….and I sometimes think I should do a ‘100 Strangers Project’ with them =D

5.I was in a Chinese stage play once where I was a street vendor and my role was selling apples…and my only lines were ‘Pinguo ta shuai may la! Wo ta, Wo tien la!!’ =P

6.I love riding bikes…and I love riding them FAST….it wouldn’t matter if it rained all day and the streets were all slippery, I wud still get my bike out…so there have been many cuts and bruises as a result of falling off from it =)

7.I LOVE sweets…in fact, I’m sort of addicted to them….deshi sweets, chocolates, strawberry cheese cakes, almost any dessert….that probably accounts for my extra pounds =D

8.I don’t know if my photos sometimes suggest that I’m materialistic, but the fact is I’m quite the opposite…I’m very bad when it comes to money and make-up =S

9.I would rather spend my money on visiting a good exhibition, rather than on bad company…and I think I’ve mentioned it in another photo of mine that I am absolutely crazy for some painters.. <3

10.My first preference was to study film-making, but argh, didn’t happen….so I chose the next best thing, Architecture…because it’s creative, and it opens you up to a number of fields…I never regretted my Buet days…they were definitely one of the ‘bestest’ times of my life… =)

11.But when it came to practice, I saw that architecture was as commercial as any other field…but I needed a humanitarian purpose for my survival…so I tweaked it a bit, and am now working with Shelter after Disasters… =]

12.But again, I miss the creative aspect of it….so that’s where my photography came into existence I guess =D

13.I’m more or less a perfect Sagittarian…who likes philosophy, can’t stay at any one place for long, hates details, fears commitments, loves freedom, speaks the truth……etc, etc…=P

14.About speaking the truth, I talk very little….but when I do, I tend to be pretty straight forward in my approach ( diplomacy was never my thing) …and people sometimes take that as outright rude, n I guess that way I hurt people without even knowing it…=S

15.I really enjoy cooking…..as long as I don’t have to do it more than once a week =P

16.I like movies that have some thought put in them….I hate dirty comedies, but love the innocent ones ….like, Kung-Fu Panda! I could watch it over n over again and still have a good laugh…=)

17.If I’m to choose between a calm and quiet life in the suburbs and the chaotic life in a city…I’d probably choose the city life…=S

18.I get baffled when people ask me, ‘So where’re you gonna settle eventually? What are your long-term plans?’….i have stopped making long-term plans for quite a long time now…and I can not visualize myself in one place for the whole of my life…=S

19.Okay…now im getting tired…..i think this whole thing should be cut down to 10, and not 20..a good time to watch Kung Fu Panda may be.. =D

Tech stuff: I spent some time smoothing out her body make-up (due to wear, splotches, and streaks) with the PS clone & healing brushes and added a slight blur on her skin (~0.8 pixels).

UPDATE: My photo of Echo Endless was used in Feminist Friday: Avengers Edition (02.13.15). This highly amuses me as 1) I had just seen Echo today at a con and 2) she has been using this pic on her Facebook profile! :-D

I used some beads, head pin jewellery findings, super glue and a piece of voile fabric.

1. I hemmed the voile to the required size and worked out how many 'hooks' I would need.

2. I super glued the beads to the head pins.

3. Using a piece of dowel that I painted black, as a guide, I bent the head pins over the dowel.

4. Then I glued the beads to the voile.

5. I hung the rod and curtain across the bath/shower. It was a bit long so I may adjust that (or not, lol!)

6. When I drew the curtain back I didn't like it all billowy, so I decided to make a tie back. I used an earring hook, 2 jump rings and a small piece of chain. I cut the earring hook at an angle to make it sharp enough to push into the foamcore.

7. Then I put it in place and used a dab of super glue, to make sure it didn't pull out when I tied the curtain back.

8. This shows the billowy look.

9. Much better with the tie back. Here it is finished, with the blind and shower mat I made yesterday.

I am re-doing the dares this time on cards. It has been a while since I first started doing the dares so it is going to be fun to revisit them.

Dare #1 was " I *heart*"

I've been "tagged" not once but twice over the last few days, so as promised, here are 10 things that you may or may not want to know about me...

1) I am a very well balanced individual...I have a large chip on each shoulder.

2) I am an impulsive person and sometimes/usually act without thinking. This brings me joy and sorrow in equal measures. I believe that it is better to regret something that you did than something that you did not do.

3) I have an addictive personality and when I start to develop an interest in something, I devote way to much time and effort to it, whatever it may be. Again, this has brought me joy and sorrow in equal measures in the past.

4) I have been blessed with good teeth, inherited from my father. I almost never go to the dentist, however as a child, I had a very bad experience in the dentists chair, during a tooth extraction. The anaesthetic wore off mid-procedure and I came round with a man ripping out one of my teeth with a pair of pliers. Nasty.

5) I never had an interest in learning a second language until recently. I am currently teaching myself to speak Swahili and also learning Maasai through a friend in Kenya. There are no teaching courses in Maasai, so the language must be learned from a native speaker.

6) I have been close to death on so many occasions...bomb blasts, shootings, beatings, hypothermia, falls...I guess it's just not my time...yet.

7) I have an honours degree in Human Anatomy, which in hindsight was a complete waste of time. My course involved dissecting an old lady from head to toe, (including cutting off the head and toes), among other things.

8) If it were not for my faith in God, I would have quit life a long time ago. Let me clarify what I mean. I am not talking about religion here. Religion is for idiots. I'm talking about a personal, real, living faith that has manifested in me acting out the things I profess to believe, instead of just reading about them in a Bible. It has brought me so high and into the most insane situations. To be frank, it's so good, I'm addicted. And I don't mean to rattling a tambourine and shouting Hallelujah.

9) I believe in living and letting live. No one on earth is fit to judge another man/woman and any that do are just pompous hypocrites, the kind you find overpopulating most churches, keeping the pews warm and with no actual purpose in their lives. Let the blind lead the blind...sooner or later they will all end up in the ditch.

10) I recently started a charitable organisation called Jericho Springs, to raise funds to pay for children in East Africa with clubfeet to receive operations and physiotherapy to enable them to walk again.

No big deal, I'm nothing special and have zero experience. We did some fundraising and by the end of August, we will have put 6 children through surgery and a further 5 children under 2 through a casting procedure to enable them to walk. The money is still coming in and more kids are being lined up.

All co-ordinated from my laptop and a telephone 6,000 miles away. If I can make a difference, so can you. Stop talking, start doing.

Blues In the Night

"But I've been planning this hike for a month," Teddi complained, plopping on her sofa beside Seth, who was applying polish to his toenails.

"Dearest heart, land lightly!" Seth cautioned her. 'There is art in progress."

"I am so sorry, baby girl. You know I'd rather be in the woods with you, but I can't get off," Erebus apologized again.

"And that sentence, taken out of context, sounds so stalker-adjacent," remarked Seth conversationally, blowing on his toes.

"Seth, be a man and volunteer to go with me in Erebus' place," Teddi ordered Seth.

"Definitely a man, definitely not going with you on your freaky forest tour," Seth declined. "These feet are for delicate nibbles, not monster chomps."

"There aren't any monsters in Dash Point," argued Teddi.

"Then why are they dashing around, if you get my point?" countered Seth. "Besides, I have a date. Why do you think I'm primping?"

"You've always got a date," Teddi debated. "Why can't you pass on this one?"

"Because 1, I will not be tart-shamed and 2, I don't wanna. I will not be dragged by my frillies into some terrifying near-death experience, again." Seth held up a hand when Teddi began to open her mouth. "End of conversation."

Erebus leaned over the couch, kissing Teddi's cheek. "Next weekend, baby girl, even if I have to call out sick, okay?"

"Okay," she agreed, watching him leave her apartment. Then, her eyes fell on Seth. "Well, if nobody's going to go hiking with me, I'm going to a movie. So, pack up your toes and go back to your place."

"But, I'm still drying," Seth complained, waving at his feet. "I'll just lock up when I leave, okay?"

"I should say, no, but okay," Teddi elbowed him. "You suck for being such a baby. I'm going to bring you back a souvenir binky."

Ignoring Seth making "baby sucking on binky" noises after her, Teddi grabbed her purse, keys, and swept out of the cozy apartment. Once she was inside her little Isa Cabrio she looked in the rear view mirror, smiling at all the camping supplies she'd loaded earlier, in anticipation of the overnight hike with Erebus.

"Who needs boys?" she asked herself, slipping on her large, pink sunglasses. "Girl power!" And she drove out of the parking lot, heading for the Dash Point Coastal Trail, Cyndi Lauper singing about girls wanting to have fun, on the radio.

The trail was everything Teddi hoped for; deep woods on one side, the roar of the Pacific on the other side, and wide, smooth trails that didn't tax her as she packed in. And, as a bonus, portable toilets every hundred yards or so, none of them close enough to the campsites to make them smelly, but near enough for a midnight run.

As the long afternoon wore on to early evening, she began looking for campsite. Other hikers had the same idea, many already setting up their various tents and kindling fires in the designated pits. She observed that AmazeOne must have had a sale on blue tents, because almost every other campsite that was occupied seemed to have an identical, blue-domed tent.

Eventually, she found a small site on the inland woods side of the trail rather than the strand of trees separating the trail from the ocean. While she wanted to camp on the ocean side, she decided the strong winds might rattle around her tent enough to disturb her sleep, so she opted for a tidy little spot just big enough for tiny, inflatable pink tent, and a cozy fire, setting up for the night.

After a dinner of PB&J sandwiches and water, Teddi snuggled into her tent to listen to an old, Sherlock Holmes radio play. Pausing the play for a moment, she unzipped the breathable mesh doorway to check on the status of the fire, planning to bank it for the night. A blue glow caught her eye and she could make out the hump of another of the dome tents she'd already spotted, possibly 3 campsites away from hers. Lit from within by a moderately powerful lantern, the tent looked like a fat, radioactive sapphire. Banking the embers of her fire, she scooted back inside her tent for some more of Holmes and Watson, but received a call from Erebus.

Teddi: Hello?

Erebus: Sorry I ruined your plans for today.

Teddi: Don't worry about it. We can hike next week. (she was grinning because that would make TWO hikes in a row! win-win)

Erebus: Want me to drop by? I can bring pizza.

Teddi: I already ate, and I'm actually in bed. Probably be asleep soon.

Erebus: On a weekend? You feeling okay?

Teddi: Just being lazy, y'know.

Erebus: Well, you have sweet dreams, baby girl. Call me tomorrow?

Teddi: As soon as I get home. (she clapped a hand over her mouth)

Erebus: Home?

Teddi: Yeah, from dreamland. (she giggled) Talk to you tomorrow.

Erebus: Good night, goofy.

The call disconnected, Teddi fell back on her blanket with a loud sigh. "You are SO bad at lying," she scolded herself.

She unzipped the door again, peeking out at her fire. The embers were red, dimming under ashes, and she threw a glance toward the tent, noting the light was out now. Oddly, with the light out, it looked as if the tent was closer, maybe 2 campsites from her. She shrugged at the trick of the light, zipping in again, settling back for some more radio mystery.

Teddi woke, surprised, because she didn't realize she'd dozed off. Holmes and Watson were silent, the radio play having ended, and she had her system set to ask if it should continue, just in case she fell asleep, so her battery wasn't wasted. Yawning mightily, she considered rolling over and going back to sleep, but she reminded herself to check the embers so she crawled out of the tent, stretching and taking a deep lungful of ocean air -- and holding it.

There was a tent in the campsite beside hers, separated by a fallen log sporting a nursery of huckleberry bushes.

She slowly exhaled, surprised that the late arrivals hadn't awakened her earlier. She checked the embers, and they were buried deep under ash, slowly dying. She covered them with more ash, just to be sure they didn't spark. Since she was up anyway, Teddi grabbed her flashlight and walked down the path to the portable toilet, gratified to find it clean, and ocean-breeze-scrubbed of lingering odors. Returning to her campsite, she slowed, realizing that the tent in the space next to her was one of the blue domed ones, which wasn't odd, but the tent that had occupied the farther space was gone.

Careful not to shine the light on the tent, so she didn't disturb the occupant, she walked back to her tent wondering if the tent in the space beside her was a new arrival, or if the people in the farther site simply moved closer to her. But why would they do that? She supposed there could be a number of reasons, the ground might be uneven in the other spots, and that was supposing that these weren't entirely different campers. But if they were, where had the others gone?

She shrugged it off, crawling back inside her tent, zipping the flap and settling back onto her blanket and inflatable pillow, hand laying on her purse. She wasn't particularly worried about the tent next door, it was just odd, but there were a lot of campers in the area so it wasn't as if somebody could get away with any antics. She was about to close her eyes and let the booming of the ocean lull her to sleep when -- something bumped her tent.

She sat up, listening. The ocean's roar permeated the air, so it was difficult to hear smaller sounds, like footsteps, or twigs breaking, that kind of thing, but she was sure that something outside the tent just bumped into it from the front side. Her right hand inside her purse, she used her left hand to slowly unzip the flap, but before it was even halfway open her eyes widened. Everything was blue! She quickly realized that a blue domed tent was sitting right up against her tent! It was either the side or the back of the tent since there was no opening.

"What the Woodsy Owl?" she exclaimed.

A light came on inside the blue tent, shining on the wall separating Teddi from whoever was inside the other tent. The silhouette of hands appeared, pressing against the plastic, seeming to reach for Teddi. At the same time, a strange sort of moaning came from the tent, low, almost plaintive, as if whatever made the noise wanted something, badly. She'd had enough.

"Hey, Blue Tent Boy, I want you to listen very closely. Can you identify this sound?" Teddi's right hand came out of her purse with a handgun, and she flipped off the safety, chambering a round. "What you just heard is the sound of a SIG-Sauer P232 .380 ready to fire." The light inside the tent went out, and the moaning stopped. "I am going to close the zipper on my tent, now. And in 30 seconds I'm going to open it again. If you are outside my tent, I will start shooting. If you are in any of the campsites near me, I will start shooting. I have several magazines with me, and I do not mind wasting ammo because I will shoot until I hit something. Closing my zipper, now. 30 seconds, and counting."

Teddi waited, watching the time on her phone, hearing nothing outside her tent beyond the crash of the ocean waves. When the time was up, she slowly unzipped the flap, prepared to start shooting, as promised.

The tent was gone.

Climbing out of her tent with her handgun and a flashlight, she scanned the area around her. The spaces near her were empty, the woods seemed unoccupied, and when she went out to the trail, shining her light in both directions, nothing moved.

"Huh," she observed, immediately breaking camp, packing up, and hiking out of the area, reaching her car as the sun rose.

"What is the first rule of hiking?" asked Erebus, after Teddi told him the story.

They were sitting on the deck outside her apartment, sipping sodas.

"Don't hike alone," she replied. "But you guys totally bailed on me."

He waggled a finger at her. "Ah, ah, ah. First rule?"

Teddi gave an exaggerated sigh. "Don't hike alone."

"And what do you have to do to make up for that, and for lying to me?"

"Homecooked meals for one week," she grumbled.

"Mama just loves it when you come to dinner." Erebus grinned, leaning back on the lounger.

"She pinches my cheeks," Teddi groused.

"My mama cooks like an award winning chef. Her meals aren't the punishment," Erebus clarified.

"My poor cheeks," Teddi sighed, ignoring Erebus' smirk.

i am having a more positivie outlook on life today. even though im tired and dont want to do my homework and wish today was friday instead of thursday, i just feel whole and complete. it's mighty dandy i gotta tell ya:)

1) I am a friendly person. I smile at people to try and make their day better. I love saying hi and making people feel like they have a friend in me even if I barely know them. I enjoy walking down a hallway and being able to say "hi" to atleast three people.

2) I am a good friend. I listen when people are sad and I give advice to make them feel less alone and brighten their day. I am willing to take weight off people shoulders and loads off their plates.

3) I am funny and can make people laugh with things I do and say. I don't have to be anybody but myself and it can make someone smile.

4) I am unlike anyone else. I am random and spastic and wild and crazy and yet I can amazingly remain sober while being those things.

5) I do not and will not give into peer pressure. it doesn't work on me. I do what I think is right and I don't do what I think is wrong. sure I'm curious what kind of person I would be under an influence of some kind but I don't let that curiosity control my actions and I don't act on impulse. If I was somewhere with alcohol and drugs everywhere I still could restrain. you don't have to do something just because you can.

6) I am very social. although sometimes that gets me in trouble with teachers and such I find a way to make up for it and stay on their good sides ;D

7) I don't have a style. I love dressing up and being girly and glittery and I also love wearing some eyeliner and a beanie and holey jeans. I could come to school in a dress one day and a graphic t-shirt the next. I like being unpredictable like that.

8) I am a virgin and I have not nor will I ever send a sext. I am not controlled by hormones and there is only so far I am willing to go. my body is mine and when I let someone have it I will be completely ready.

9) I am approachable. I am not one of those people with a raincloud over my head and my back turned to the world. if you don't know me I still love when you greet me or talk to me.

I did this because today my boyfriend pointed out to me that I blame myself too often. and yes, quite honestly I do, and that's not okay. as much as I hate making anyone else feel bad I need to stop being an emotional punching bag. I want to love myself more. not be IN LOVE with myself like having an ego that won't fit through the door, but being proud of every fiber in me.

THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS:

1.I am Suresh Chadha a Scuba Diver turned Freelance Photojournalist, my name has been Mutilated by my Naval Friends by my nicks as “Skeri”. I am an Aquarian. Almighty God issued me the permit of enjoying this beautiful world, 42 years back and do celebrate every year. I left my home at the tender age of 11 for boarding and later college at Prince of Wales college. Since I am a Scuba Diver I claim to be an Amphibian. It was nice to join a Ship and get rid of those stupid Mathematical riddles and Physics Numericals but it was like “From the frying Pan into the Fire” since Ship’s Navigational work is basically full of Mathematical Calculations. So it was a hard nut to crack.

2.My first love is Water, Water and Water and go mad while at Sea for Diving or wetting in rain. Diving is my passion. Once in a Late night Hotel party with my family and friends, I Jumped into swimming pool with my clothes on and Joked with Manager for not putting railing on pool side and arranging party at a risky place. Later they all were happy to know my mad passion for swimming. It was a light fun .

3.I am married to a beautiful household wife. The happiest moments of my life: When I was blessed with my daughter Saika seconded by another daughter Shrami. I love my wife who gifted me with two cute n beautiful daughters. My assets are my family.

4.I am an athlete having a six feet + Broad bony frame, and love sports like Basketball, Boxing and also remained coach for Martial Arts. Play Mouth organ, listen to the music at leisure, I am a very good singer but in bathroom only nowhere on a public stage. Hahaha.

5.So as for languages are concerned I know English, Hindi, Punjabi, Russian and can make myself comfortable with Telugu n Malyalam friends verbally only.

6.Photography is my childhood passion and am also very fond of holding colour brushes for landscapes and portraits and sketch pencils for instant impressions anytime any where.

7.I am a Shippie and have sailed to many parts of Globe and loved roaming like a free bird.

8.I love eating but am very much concerned about health issue. So less frieds, oils and more fruits n juices with a lot of workout.

9.Sunday I am busy with Washing my Cars and later with my family n friends for outing and cooking.

10.Love good friends having straight n clean ideas. I do not believe in Show off business.

11.My other hobbies are domestic electrical repair works, watching TV for sports and adventurous channels, war movies and light music. My all time favourite movies are BENHUR, THE GUNS OF NAVARONE, TITANIC, GONE WITH THE WIND, TEN COMMANDMENTS and a few more.

12.Driving on long routes followed by trekking never made me tired rather I loved and enjoyed the nature’s ups and downs in hilly tracks.

13.I loved Donation of blood and eyes: I SHALL NOT BE ABLE TO DO SO. (Why? See below after 16.)

14.God Made man and man made Slaves: I hate.

15.I celebrate my birthday by releasing caged birds kept for selling in the market.

16.Last but not the least:

And thus, is my motto for seeing the stars in this beautiful world with a small span of life. Though now a days I have been sucking Honey of a thorn but still Fate gives us a Lemon and we should make it’s Lemonade.

These were the risings of my life and you know there is always a downfall after a rise. So now a days a foreign friend has embarrassed and hugged me who has been with me for the last 9 months and there has been a continuous fight between us. I am thankful to my Flickr friend Dr.Paddu Rao & family for rendering me the guidelines on this issue so that it does not harm me much. I am also thankful to Maggie, Tanya Mass, Ponnu, Sanjeev, Rekha, Silvia, Sanjeeban and all other friends(List is too long) who have been a source of inspiration for me to combat this DEADLY BLOOD CANCER.

Twelve Chemos have been administered into me after a interval of every 28 days and for three regular days. Undergoing chemotherapy has been a nightmarish experience for me but I have to undergo in case I further want to enjoy this beautiful world.

Hell broke on me and my family when undergoing under strenous and ever painful CHEMOTHERAPY I sufferred a Cardiac attack and had to drive 9 Kms. to reach Hospital to combat the heart attack.

Came back safe after 6 days of heart surgery for left artery blockade.

7. I feel like everyone should atleast try to keep a hott body. No one likes a lazy blob who has 90% body-fat, and no muscle. Atleast that's my preference.

8. I like interesting, nice, good-looking boys. I have a crush on one, but he already has a girlfriend, and I don't know why he had to pick her. She's not that great!

9. I kinda quit on art and reading... i guess i should get back to that.

10. Today i went to a Keys Baseball game. I was walking out to my dad's car to get my camera (which I then found out that i left at home!) and the other baseball team was getting off their bus. Every one of them checked me out (that's what my friend told me atleast). Hah, that boosted up my self-esteem.

I just happened to be in the Fort Williams area when I saw this in the staging yard. I was looking for the Cando GMD-1. I saw this guy shoving cars and headed right for the elevator. Pentax K-1, Kalimar 60-300/4-5.6 zoom.

This was the first time I've taken this lens out on the K-1. I was quite surprised by the vignette! but the colors and rendering seemed very usable. Looking forward to more shots. :-)

Ok 1. I got glasses two days ago (I've worn contacts exclusively since I was 10, and haven't even had a pair of up-to-date galsses in about 5 years)

and 2. Someone PLEASE teach me how to use studio lights I am awful someone needs to help me
