Le Gour Emir est un mausolée situé à Samarcande, en Ouzbékistan, lieu de sépulture de Tamerlan (aussi connu sous le nom de Timour, Timur Lang ou Timour le boiteux) et de sa descendance.
Le Gour Emir (traduction : tombe de l'émir) occupe une place importante dans l'histoire de l'architecture persane. Il est en effet le précurseur et le modèle des grandes sépultures mogholes, comme le tombeau de Humayun à Delhi ou le Taj Mahal à Āgrā. Il fut aussi la source d'inspiration principale de Nicolas Vassiliev pour la mosquée de Saint-Pétersbourg en 1910.
Un premier mausolée a été construit en 1401, du vivant de Tamerlan, par son petit-fils préféré et successeur désigné, Muhammad Sultan, pour y abriter la dépouille de son grand-père, alors que celui-ci désirait être enterré sobrement, à l'instar de Gengis Khan. « Juste une pierre et mon nom dessus » avait-il dit.
Ce mausolée était un ensemble architectural construit autour d'une cour intérieure bordée de quatre iwan. À l'est se dressait une madrasa, tandis qu'à l'ouest s'élevait une khanaka où se trouvait une mosquée à coupole. Comme au Taj Mahal actuellement, la construction était entourée de quatre minarets. Aujourd'hui, il ne reste que les traces des fondations de ce mausolée, le portail encore richement décoré où subsiste l'inscription en persan « Construit par le faible esclave Mohamed, fils de Mahmoud, d'Ispahan » et une partie de l'iwan clôturant la cour intérieure du côté sud.
Mais Muhammad Sultan est tué lors d'une campagne en Perse en 1403 et Tamerlan fit alors construire un autre mausolée qu'il désirait le plus beau qui soit. À peine le dôme surmontant la mausolée achevé, Tamerlan le fit détruire, exigeant la construction d'un dôme plus imposant. Les ouvriers travaillèrent jour et nuit, terminant l'édifice en quinze jours !
En 1405, Tamerlan meurt et son corps embaumé de musc et de camphre est secrètement enterré aux côtés de Muhammad Sultan dans la khanaka du premier ensemble, situé juste devant le Gour Emir.
Les luttes de succession ayant pris fin en 1409, les dépouilles furent translatées au Gour Emir, où elles se trouvent toujours. Tamerlan repose aux pieds de son maître spirituel le cheik Mir-Said-Bereke, suivant sa volonté.
Le petit-fils de Tamerlan, l'architecte, astronome et savant Ulugh Beg rapporta de Mongolie le bloc de néphrite (du jade) qui recouvre le tombeau de Tamerlan qu'il entoura d'une barrière de marbre ajouré.

Macro mondays theme - stripes
Nearly the whole week I went mad, what to do with this theme; thought about spoons reflecting stripes, sheets of colourful paper, pencils of course - and then I saw my little daughter´s feather with stripes in all colours. And here it is. Hope, you enjoy!

You might not expect to come upon a castle while visiting Spokane, but that is exactly what you will do if you visit the Spokane County courthouse. Most of us associate such architecture with romantic old castles in Europe, or perhaps something out of the world of Walt Disney or fairy tales. To find such a building in the center of a modern, growing regional hub city such as Spokane is a bit startling.
The courthouse is said to closely resemble two famous 16th century chateaux in the Loire Valley of France, the Chateau de Chambord, built in 1519 and the Chateau d'Azay Le Rideau built in 1516. Many architects through the years have commented on the masterly replica of a 16th century French Renaissance design, its fine lines of style and proportion with regard to the towers and turrets, the sculpture, iron and brickwork which excel in pattern and craftsmanship. Detailed exterior trim such as shell patterns with wreaths and festoons and decorative arches are a few of the outstanding features of its design. The beautiful center tower, now lighted at night, is a masterpiece of detail in itself.

Η παραδοσιακή αρχιτεκτονική των χωριών είναι ιδιαίτερη για την περιοχή της Δυτικής Μακεδονίας. Τα παλαιά σπίτια είναι κατασκευασμένα με πλίνθους με κοκκινόχωμα και άχυρο, που δίνουν το κοκκινωπό χρώμα στο τοπίο της περιοχής. Ο τρόπος κατασκευής των σπιτιών διατηρήθηκε έως τα μέσα του 20ου αιώνα και έπειτα εγκαταλείφθηκε.
Korestia is a historic region of Western Macedonia in Greece. It’s a cluster of mountain villages (Ano and Kato Kranionas, Halara, Ano and Kato Melas, Makrochori, Mavrokampos, Agios Antonios, Gavros) exhibiting strong architectural and cultural interest. The traditional architecture of the villages is great for the region of Western Macedonia. Old houses are constructed with handmade bricks with red clay and straw, giving a reddish color to the landscape. The construction of the houses was maintained until the mid-20th century and then abandoned.

My last night in Amsterdam.
I wanted to take all colors, from every corner. I did not reach time. Now, I think I should have stayed all night without sleep. But I was tired and felt very cold. I hope to return to this beautiful city.

The Rosenhöhe (Rose Heights) is a beautiful garden, which was previously a vineyard in the possession of the royal house. It was transformed into a landscaped garden in the English style at the beginning of the 19th century. The royal architect Georg Moller decorated the park with tea-houses and pavilions.
The mystical park serves also as the cemetery for the Duches of Darmstadt with two impressive mausoleum buildings in its remote parts.

Sant'Apollinare Nuovo (Ravenna).
La basilica fu fatta erigere dal re goto Teodorico nel 505 come chiesa di culto ariano con il nome di Domini Nostri Jesu Christi. Fu la chiesa palatina di Teodorico (cioè una chiesa per l'uso della sua corte).
In seguito alla conquista della città da parte dell'Impero bizantino (540), l'imperatore Giustiniano passò in proprietà della Chiesa cattolica tutti i beni immobili già posseduti dagli ariani. Tutti gli edifici legati ai goti e all'arianesimo furono integrati al culto cattolico. La basilica ex teodoriciana venne riconsacrata a San Martino di Tours, difensore della fede cattolica e avversario di ogni eresia. Sant'Apollinare Nuovo porta i segni tangibili di quest'operazione: la fascia sopra gli archi che dividono le navate era corredata da un ciclo di mosaici con temi legati alla religione ariana. Su iniziativa del vescovo Agnello, il ciclo fu cancellato e la fascia ridecorata ex novo. Furono risparmiati solo gli ordini più alti (con le "Storie di Cristo" e con i santi e profeti), che qui in foto non di vedono bene.
È un edificio a tre navate, quella centrale, larga il doppio di quelle laterali, terminava con un'abside semicircolare all'interno e poligonale all'esterno, che fu ricostruita nel XVI secolo e decorata nel XVIII secolo, assumendo l'aspetto attuale, che è stato recuperato di recente, segnando però sul pavimento la pianta dell'abside del VI secolo. La navata mediana è delimitata da dodici coppie di colonne poste una di fronte all'altra che sorreggono archi a tutto sesto.
