After a week with rain and storm the weather calmed down and the temperatures dropped significantly. We used Saturday for a trip into the Detmold Area to visit the Externsteine and the Hermansdenkmal.
I had seen this ethanol plant as I drove by numerous times, and thought it might be fun to photograph. This time I actually took a few minutes to stop and give it a try. This photo was made from two images merged together to make it somewhat of a panoramic shot.
I knew it was going to be a great sunrise so I got up early and drove down to Bamburgh to shot the castle in the dawn light. I took a few shots of the castle and the dawn which I might post over the next few days, but this was my favourite. I just love how the dawn lights up part of the wood.

This moody photo is a reflection of the time we spent exploring the Campbell National Park a few while ago. It was wet and windy, and we hardly saw the sun. Still a beautiful area though...

Ich kann nur den niederrheinischen Fotografen die Kirche in Kalkar (St. Nicolai) empfehlen. Hier ist es eine wahre Freude die Kamera auszupacken und die Atmosphäre dieses Bauwerkes festzuhalten.
Der Georgsaltar wurde ca. 1480 von einem Meister Arnt von Zwolle begonnen und 1492 vollendet. Der Georgsaltar ist das früheste Werk, das Arnt in der Nikolaikirche geschaffen hat. Er bietet im Mittelteil hinter zwei schmalen Säulen ein weiträumiges Landschaftspanorama mit neun Szenen aus der Legende des hl. Georg, die alle in einem Bild zusammengefasst sind. Die Hauptszene in der Mitte zeigt St. Georg zu Pferde den Drachen besiegend. Der Meister Arnt von Zwolle wird auch Arnt von Kalkar genannt.
Im letzten Viertel des 15. Jahrhunderts wurde die Bildhauerei am Niederrhein vor allem von diesem Bildschnitzer geprägt. In Kalkar und in Zwolle war er hauptsächlich tätig und von diesen beiden Orten hat er seinen Namen in der Kunstgeschichte. Er ist nicht nur für den Georgaltar verantwortlich, sondern auch für die erste Phase des Hochaltars, den er bei seinem Tod 1492 unvollendet in seinem Atelier zurückließ.

Hinter dem See erheben sich bekannte und mächtige Hochgipfel wie Schwarzstein und Löffler, die sich mit ihren weißen Gletschern und grauen Felsen im blauen Wasser spiegeln.
Diese Aussicht auf die Zillertaler Gipfel haben wir uns wie folgt "erarbeitet":
Von Steinhaus (1050 m) mit der Umlaufbahn hinauf zur Kristallalm (1602 m), danach zu Fuß der M 33 folgend zuerst in nur leicht ansteigender Waldquerung zur Speckalm (1726 m) und auf Steig 33 größtenteils abseits des Güterweges über freie Hänge zum Teil im Zickzack (wer will, kann auch den längeren, aber bequemeren Fahrweg einschlagen) empor zum See; ab Bergstation gut 1:30 Std. Diese einst so stolze Festung, war zu ihrer Blütezeit die größte Burg in ganz Ostbayern. Durch Misswirtschaft ist sie heute nur noch ein Schatten ihrer selbst.
Allerdings wird jetzt Mithilfe von Archäologen und einem gemeinnützigen Verein die Burg nicht nur erhalten, sondern zum Teil wieder aufgebaut.
This once proud fortress, was in its heyday the largest castle in all of Eastern Bavaria. Through mismanagement it is now only a shadow of itself.
However, now the help of archaeologists and a non-profit association will not only get the castle, but partially rebuilt.
