This is probably the weirdest fence I've ever posted! First I had a snowstorm fence, then I had a picnic in the park fence, then I had a beach fence. But as I was looking through my archives, I came across a 'heart' fence. This being the month of love and all, I immediately yanked it from the archives and dusted it off (I know, it looks like a missed a few spots)!
Seriously folks; this looks NOTHING like the original! I took a beautiful, pristine digital image and systematically destroyed it. And it was so much fun! I really shouldn't be doing this, I have SO MUCH to do before I start my road trip next week. Been up since 3:00 am getting Jack off on her flight to San Diego. So what I'm really doing right now is procrastinating. And when I procrastinate, you can usually find me in Photoshop ... or on Flickr! I decided to 'do something different.' I ran the image through a plugin called Retrographer. It does a whole bunch of fun neat retro camera effects!! I like how this looks like a rumpled Valentine's Day card found in a musty box in the basement.
Happy Fence Friday Everyone!!

Brand spanking new, and a snip at £360 - this is the Vulcan Demonstration Van. Its chassis could take 20-25 cwt., and it was distributed by B.T. Lambert Ltd., 3 Cornmarket, Dublin.
From examining shots of the van from other angles, what we thought was the reg. no. seemed to be 0010 YI (definitely YI, but 0010 didn't sound right). Thanks to Bob Montgomery 2012 who explained that it was a trade plate rather than a registration plate...
I've transcribed the full text from the carving over the door of Reginald's Tower behind the van below...

she is a lady in waiting, and she's up with the dead. hands full of stationary ships that drift into bluffs and slide into cliffs. one evening she'll find herself face down like the hull, and maybe then someone will ship her off and she'll be noticed. maybe.

The island drifts amongst the snow-capped mountains surrounding the Lake Maggiore.
Isola Bella, meaning "Beautiful Island", really does live up to its name. It is one of the Borromean Islands (Isole Borromee) of the Lake Maggiore in northern Italy. Until the beginning of 1600s, the island was a small rocky cliff occupied by a tiny fishing village. In 1632 Carlo III of the influential House of Borromeo began the construction of a palazzo with luxuriant baroque gardens dedicated to his wife Isabella, from whom the island takes its name.

Tante donne.

While on a photowalk around Westminster with Siany, we walk around the back of Westminster Abbey and she found this little entrance. We wandered in and found this fantastic little cloister and many other churchy-type things. We also found the oldest door in England, dating back to around 1050.
The interior of this, I believe it's called a chapter house, is modelled on the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris. I loved the sense of perspective that this corridor gave, plus the wonderful ceiling and the bright sunlight shining in through the cloister windows.
This looks much more lovely large on black. I've also just realised that my Flickr stream has just passed over a million views, so thank you everyone who as visited and continues to visit my photos!

Golden rays of light burst through a unique doorway carved by time along Pfeiffer Beach, Big Sur. Truly one of those beautiful moments where the elements combine in your favor. Winter solstice is the time at which the Sun is at its southernmost point in the sky. During this brief period our sun lines up directly with this portal and allows us to witness a unique phenomenon.
This truly is one of the most popular locations making it hard to get a unique shot. But i guess sometimes you just have to give in and realize this portal, even though photographed like crazy, is still absolutely beautiful. I took this right before i shot "winters nightfall" I hadn't planned on uploading any of these shots but this one caught my eye and i decided it would be a shame if i didn't post it. If anything it makes a killer desktop background! The weather was absolutely crazy in Big Sur this winter. I could have sworn some of the waves over in Garrapata State Park were close to 20ft high with some of the most unique rip currents I've ever seen. Good luck to anybody who falls in!
I was very happy to finally witness the portal in action and hope to return soon. Ive continued fine tuning my editing process so every new shot has been a great learning experience.
Full view my shot!

LEGO Stormtroopers have been featured a wide variety of sets in the Star Wars Theme, and have been redesigned with more detail or fixed details often.
Although the standard Stormtrooper looks almost the same in every set they have been released in, over the years, they have been slightly redesigned more than once. Also, the helmet has been changed three times.
One of those variations appeared in the 7264 Imperial Inspection set, where they had more detailed shin plates. In the set, it featured 4 troopers with previously unused leg detail, having increased Utility Belt detail and knee plates over the usual blank legs.
There are currently three variations of the LEGO Stormtrooper helmets: One with two mouth grills split into halves, the second with single black mouth grill, and the third most recent - a thick, gray mouth grill with small black lines. Their eyes have also grown gradually throughout the years.
In 2009, a special edition silver Stormtrooper was released as a magnet set to commemorate 10 years of LEGO Star Wars. It was later released as a promotional minifigure at Toys R Us.
In 2012, the Stormtroopers and Scouts were given new faces and for the stormtrooper a new torso.

New group: Overschie!
I started a new group - couldn't believe it didn't exist yet - about Overschie, Rotterdam!
Overschie is a neighbourhood in the north of Rotterdam, with +15.000 inhabitants. It has a lot of beautiful spots, but also the A13 running through it and the Kleinpolderplein traffic junction (another group I started, btw). Feel free to throw all your Overschie shots in this new group. Ta!
About the picture
Trying to slipstream the Dutch Masters... ;-)
With the sun coming up behind my back I suddenly noticed this atmospheric view of 'vintage' Overschie, a rootsy Rotterdam neighbourhood - all this while I was reporting the demolition of a modern appartment at the other side of this bridge.
This is HDR, but I processed it in a different way, I was trying to make it look like an old Dutch painting, or something. :-)
Hope you enjoy it. Ta!

Starry skies meet the old west in this capture featuring an old cattle chute near Westcliffe, Colorado. I really liked how the thin moon (only 22% full) reflected so much light and color off the clouds - all with a great view of the stars behind. A little subtle light painting on the chute and the constellation Scorpius just coming into view round out this scene with the southern skies of Colorado.
This composite image comes from 10 shorter exposures stacked with Registar and then blended with one longer one for the foreground. Between the clouds and the wood structure in the foreground, this one was definitely a challenge for my blending skills... I hope you like the results!

Only two years ago they found a massive ice cave just below the peak of the Hintertux glacier. An ice cave on 3.250m! The cave winds itself deep into the glacier and you will find yourself 25m underneath the surface in the middle of glowing ice crystals, bizarre formations, deep gorges, mini glacial lakes… it’s a natural phenomenon that you should check out when you visit Hintertux. A real adventure in summer and winter! Equipped with helmets we climb and crawl deep into this beautiful and ice cold cave. It’s a unique challenge for sporty people without claustrophobia.
The Natural Ice Palace at the peak of Hintertux glacier has been opened to the public since 3rd November 2008. In August 2007 Roman Erler of Natursport Tirol, whilst doing a mountain tour discovered the cave by chance and subsequently surveyed it. At this time it was never considered opening it to the public because of the natural movement of the glacier. Astoundingly there was little movement of the wall although the iceflow was at a 30° gradient. The temperature inside the Ice Palace hovers around zero degrees Celcius. The sense of being inside a glacier is quite indescribable: a heady combination of dynamism and serenity. Quite simply one of the most beautiful places that we have ever had the privilege of visiting. Family photo of us; BieJee, Kanitha, Ben, Samantha and the Neanderthal!!
We were lucky enough to be the only people on the last tour of the day, and because we were so enthusiastic, the project leader allowed us to enter a section of the cave not usually accessible to the public. Sections of the cave have been illuminated with coloured lights which add a different dimension to the experience, and the guide is well experienced at pointing out the most interresting locations. On a practical note, the cave is accessed from the top ski lift at Hintertux and is a 200m walk under supervision from the stunning Gefrorene Wand viewpoint which provides stunning vistas over the Tyrol and over the Dolomites.
