Me dijo ''tengo frío, acércame calor'',

(Silvio Rodriguez)

Before I left for my Yosemite trip, I captured a sunrise over Lake Michigan. The sun wavered in and out of a dense layer of clouds on the horizon. I really loved this fabulous, dilapidated beach fence, silhouetted against the sky.

I'm still going through the 'one or two fence shots' I managed to capture on my California trip and can't decide which one to post ... so I'm pulling this one from the archives. Caught a bit of a cold at the tail end of my trip so I'll be rummaging through the fence group later this afternoon ... from the comfort of my couch.

Happy Fence Friday and hope everyone has an awesome weekend!!

Drinking Starbucks coffee and driving on Interstate 5 south of Seattle don’t go well together.

This is the classic view of the Seattle skyline from Kerry Park.

I somehow managed to get this shot in between having spirited discussions with fellow photographers on lens selection, exposure and who Santa would be delivering the new Canon EOS-1D X camera to this Christmas.

The next morning I grabbed a cup of coffee in the original Starbucks at the Pike Place Market. Back in my car I headed south to meet my friend in Grants Pass, Oregon.

If you ever matriculated in higher education in America you would be familiar with the following question as seen on the SAT or GRE:

“If vehicle A is driving south on I-5 at sixty miles an hour and random brick B is coming toward vehicle A at seventy miles per hour what will be the cost of the damage to vehicle A?”

Answer: A broken oil pan, hundreds of dollars and another night in Seattle.

I didn’t mind spending another night in Seattle since it meant more photography opportunities and caffeine!

Here’s to lovely skylines, busted oil pans and to Seattle the caffeinated city!

Happy Travels!

No... it was spectacular! This was taken from the Berkeley Pier looking through the Golden Gate - truly red sails in the sunset (now THERE's an oldie - most of you weren't even born yet when this was popular!). It was so pretty but my photo wasn't doing it justice, so I did a "little" sliding, applied a little Photoshop paint, and NOW it looks like I remembered it that magical Sunday night last week. HSS!

Seen in a forest in the near of Aichwald (Baden-Württemberg, Germany). Loved the little waterfalls and vortices - showing water power. It is very idyllic and hid in the wood. I could find him only by the gurgle.

I Wonder Chris Isaak

My husband was concerned, the sky was very dark then maybe we would not see sunset in Naples, he had already visited the city and the beaches, but for my sister Miriam, my son, Jose Luis and I, it was our first time, I I told him that the sun would beat the clouds and as we expected this time of sunset, the boat gave us this picture worthy of retention and remember in our hearts.

Project 365: 54/365

Late afternoon light at Druim Bad a’ Ghaill, the high ridge that runs west along the Aird of Coigach from Stac Pollaidh towards Enard Bay. I’m really not too sure about this image - I think the composition lacks balance - but it hopefully captures something of the atmosphere of that windswept place.

The hills are, from left to right: Cùl Mòr, Stac Pollaidh and Cùl Beag. On Flickr and elsewhere you’ll routinely see these referred to as “the Assynt/Sutherland hills”. However, they all lie firmly in Wester Ross, being to the south of the River Kirkaig/Fionn Loch/Loch Veyatie line that marks the border with Sutherland.

Finally, just a quick word about Lee Filters’ customer service. Somewhere in Inverpolly I lost the little spring-loaded screw fitting that holds the adaptor ring to the filter holder. Phoned Lee about it yesterday lunchtime; when I got home from work this evening there was a replacement waiting for me in the post – free of charge. Pretty impressive.

Beyond the Sunset

I have also fall colors, like Florida anyway. For us it was worth waiting for the evening to contemplate the magnificent work of Creation: I liked everything from this point: a pair of birds decided across the sky, the clouds above the sun, the same sun above the clouds, the light above sea level, and some of the wonderful ocean waves breaking on the sand and the pale glare on that shore. Who is the architect of this great composition? I wonder and I have the answer:

Beyond the sunset, O blissful morning,

When with our Savior heav'n is begun;

Earth's toiling ended, O glorious dawning,

Beyond the sunset when day is done.

Beyond the sunset, no clouds will gather,

No storms will threaten, no fears annoy;

O day of gladness, O day unending,

Beyond the sunset eternal joy!

Beyond the sunset, a hand will guide me

To God the Father whom I adore;

His glorious presence, His words of welcome,

Will be my portion on that fair shore.

Beyond the sunset, O glad reunion,

With our dear loved ones who've gone before;

In that fair homeland we'll know no parting,

Beyond the sunset forever more!

Lake Brienz (German: Brienzersee) is a lake just north of the Alps, in the Canton of Berne in Switzerland. The lake took its name from the village Brienz on its northern shore. Interlaken and the villages Matten and Unterseen lie to the south west of the lake. The shores are steep, and there is almost no shallow water in the entire lake.

Lake Brienz is the first lake in which river Aar (German: Aare) expands. When it leaves Lake Brienz, it soon joins Lake Thun.

The lake lies in a deep hollow between the village of Brienz on the east and, on the west, Bönigen, close to Interlaken. On the south shore are the Giessbach Falls and the hamlet of Iseltwald. On the north shore are a few small villages.

The Alps (French: Alpes; German: Alpen; Italian: Alpi; Romansh: Alps; Slovene: Alpe) is the name for one of the great mountain range systems of Europe, stretching from Austria and Slovenia in the east, through Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Germany to France in the west. The word "Alps" was taken via French from Latin Alpes (meaning "the Alps"), which may be influenced by the Latin words albus (white) or altus (high) or more likely a Latin rendering of a Celtic or Ligurian original.

The highest mountain in the Alps is Mont Blanc, at 4,808 metres (15,774 ft), on the Italian-French border. All the main peaks of the Alps can be found in the list of mountains of the Alps and list of Alpine peaks by prominence.

The Alps are generally divided into the Western Alps and the Eastern Alps. The division is along the line between Lake Constance and Lake Como, following the Rhine. The Western Alps are higher, but their central chain is shorter and curved; they are located in Italy, France and Switzerland. The Eastern Alps (main ridge system elongated and broad) belong to Austria, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Slovenia and Switzerland.

The Alps are a classic example of what happens when a temperate area at lower altitude gives way to higher elevation terrain. Elevations around the world which have cold climates similar to those found in polar areas have been called alpine. A rise from sea level into the upper regions of the atmosphere causes the temperature to decrease. The effect of mountain chains on prevailing winds is to carry warm air belonging to the lower region into an upper zone, where it expands in volume at the cost of a proportionate loss of heat, often accompanied by the precipitation of moisture in the form of snow or rain.

It’s difficult to believe this is just a couple miles from where I shot yesterday’s post. This is French Creek and it is one of many outlets that pour into Detroit Lake. During the spring snow melt French Creek is loud and at full capacity as it receives ammunition from several smaller brooks and streams that are currently dry. The cycle has already begun for next year as I encountered fresh snow while driving at higher elevations on some logging roads this past weekend.

Well its not the first time I have captured ghosts in my shots. Check out my first comment to see the other shot with ghosts but this is different in 2 ways

1. The ghost in this case is me :))

2. In my previous shot, I selectively colored the ghosts and kept everything in B&W .. in this one I did the inverse. That's me in B&W, keeping everything else in its natural color.

I wanted to depict something like time travel, where I've been transported to this different era and am gazing at these marvelous structures in amazement.

I got this from my last weeks trip to Golconda fort in Hyderabad. I loved this part of the fort and although it looks quite bright in this shot, it was a very dark place so I had to use long exposure of 8 seconds to get this much light into the frame. I ran and stood there for 4 of those 8 seconds to get the ghosting effect.

Hope you guys have a enjoyable weekend. I'm planning to go out again for a photowalk, will keep you guys posted. Have fun everybody!

i was doing some sunset shots of the Marilyn Monroe statue in Pioneer Court while waiting for Dan and Terry USA, both flickr contacts, as we were planning on doing some night shots along the riverwalk...i didn't realize that i had both of them in this frame until i looked at this frame much later and recognized them in the photo...check out the full morning light version and the blue hour version at the bottom as well...enjoy your weekend guys...pls. Was a nice spotting day with Julian. :)

I see this every morning when going to work. Everyone is so robotic and corporate looking (well.. almost everyone to the latter).

First blood.....

I have tried so many time to get this !

These stone are called the "Praying Hands of Mary".

I was told by an old bloke building a stone wall at the bottom of the hill that they are also called "Fiann's Arrow" I'm not sure about the spelling of the second name. There must be a gaelic name for them as well... ?

This is such a tricky place to photograph. In winter it's in the shadow of Ben Laws for most, if not all of the day. Even at this time of year there is very little light, two minutes after this the sun was down behind another hill behind me called "Creag nan Eildeag".

Thanks go to Ian Murray, a photographer I met in the early summer for putting me onto this place. I will be back again and again as I get to know the area better and will get much better shots than this.

I have spent hundreds of hours in Glenlyon with only a few shots to show for my time, it is such a difficult place to get anything at all, makes it all the more appealing !
