Bagan

also Arimaddana or Arimaddanapura, "city breakers of enemies", and Tambadipa, "copper country" or Tassadessa, "parched land") is a historic royal city in Myanmar with over two thousand preserved sacred buildings made of brick. The area made up of temples extends over approx. 36 km² in a stepped landscape and forms one of the largest archaeological sites in Southeast Asia. Bagan is located in what is now the Mandalay Division, 155 km southwest of the city of Mandalay on the east bank of the Irrawaddy, halfway between its source and its mouth in the Indian Ocean and is now one of the most important tourist destinations in Myanmar.

Seen while walking the cliffs in the area Carvoeiro in the southern Algarve region of Portugal, recent rockfalls show the effect of coastal erosion. The stunning effects of nature on this sandstone is quite amazing to see.

After the sunset with a clear sky over the mountains and the purple hues tinge the clouds covering the lowlands to the right, this is my favourite panorama to date! This is the picture I have been holding back for! www.glensumnerphotography.com

I wonder where Colin is now? Hopefully somewhere in South Africa.

Jaisalmer, nicknamed "The Golden city", is a town in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is located 575 kilometres west of the state capital Jaipur. It was once known as Jaisalmer state.

Jaisalmer is named after its founder Maharawal Jaisal Singh, a Rajput king in 1156 AD. "Jaisalmer" means "the Hill Fort of Jaisal". Jaisalmer is sometimes called the "Golden City of India" because the yellow sand and the yellow sandstone used in every architecture of the city gives a yellowish-golden tinge to the city and its surrounding area.

The town stands on a ridge of yellowish sandstone, crowned by a fort, which contains the palace and several ornate Jain temples. Many of the houses and temples are finely sculptured. It lies in the heart of the Thar Desert (great Indian desert) and has a population of about 78,000. It is the administrative headquarters of Jaisalmer District.

Trieste is a city and seaport in northeastern Italy. It is situated towards the end of a narrow strip of land lying between the Adriatic Sea and Italy's border with Slovenia, which lies almost immediately south and east of the city. Trieste is located at the head of the Gulf of Trieste and throughout history it has been influenced by its location at the crossroads of Germanic, Latin and Slavic cultures. In 2009, it had a population of about 205,000 and it is the capital of the autonomous region Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Trieste province.

Trieste was one of the oldest parts of the Habsburg Monarchy from 1382 until 1918. In the 19th century, it was the most important port of one of the Great Powers of Europe. As a prosperous seaport in the Mediterranean region, Trieste became the fourth largest city of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (after Vienna, Budapest, and Prague). In the fin-de-siecle period, it emerged as an important hub for literature and music. However, the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Trieste's union to Italy after World War I led to some decline of its "Mittel-European" cultural and commercial importance. Enjoying an economic revival during the 1930s and throughout the Cold War, Trieste was an important spot in the struggle between the Eastern and Western blocs. Today, the city is in one of the richest regions of Italy, and has been a great centre for shipping, through its port (Port of Trieste), shipbuilding and financial services.

Thank you for your kind comments.

This is an HDR shot of Grand central Station, New York. I took the wide view to get the scale of the building in, it actually reminded of a Cathederal and that is why I went for the HDR.The shot was taken about 7 on a Saturday morning so it was not that busy, there were more people than this though, but they were blurred by the long exposure and the HDR process so I decided to take them out during processing, again to emphasise the scale.

Madagascan Green Tree Frog (Boophis luteus) I thought it might be time to post some more frogs!!

Would have liked the coot closer to the camera but also didn't want to lose the lovely pond surroundings & the reflections by focusing in too close so the coot had to stay distant:)

Enjoy a lovely weekend everyone & for those of you struggling with the heat, stay as cool as this coot!

Have a nice day!

In winter, the rice terraces are free from plants, so that the light often reflected in various colors of the sky. When we arrived at the viewpoint pulled fog over the rice fields, but towards the afternoon (as in the picture) the fog lifted .

I think it is a hard work to plant all this fields with rice. With machines may not be working there. The non- water-filled terraces are usually planted with potatoes .
