A rare bird for Florida. Franklin's Gulls are very similar to Laughing Gulls. They are slightly smaller, with a smaller bill, larger white eye arcs and a darker, more extensive hood in winter.

Some friends and I spent several hours picking through a couple thousand Laughing Gulls at a few different locations in the Daytona Beach area one day this fall. We finally found what we were looking for right before sunset. This is a first cycle (first winter) bird as shown by the brown feathers in the wing.

Miss August posing for her cover shot ;)

This cute raccoon has been showing up in my yard in Central Florida quite frequently this summer. I usually see it in the back yard late in the day, getting a drink of water from the pool. Raccoons are normally nocturnal animals but this young raccoon was probably just trying to cool down from the hot summer we have had here in Florida. We're a long way from Christmas. It started to climb up this tree but then turned around to climb back down. I caught this pose right as is was turning around.

Buren's Rings (also called The Rings) is a work of Daniel Buren and Patrick Bouchain located on the Quai des Antilles in Nantes (island of Nantes).

Along the Loire and the bananas shed, the work consists of 18 rings, 4 meters diameter, silver colored, attached to the railing of the pier, located at equal distance, one behind the other. At night, the rings are illuminated red, green and blue alternating.

The Rings were created to allow interpretation for the visitor. Nevertheless Daniel Buren wanted to include his work in the history of the city and its geography. Thus, circles refer to the rings which enclosed and imprisoned slaves, with reference to the triangular trade. Nantes was the hub of this eighteenth century trade.

Similarly, they evoke wedding rings uniting the river, sea and land on a space at the intersection of the elements.

The rings are installed on old bollards which the artist has met the number, timing and layout. The work was conceived so that his night vision is completely different from its daytime vision. During the day, the rings made of galvanized steel invite the visitor's eye to sweep all the surrounding landscape, while the night lights LEDs offer the dominant bright, colorful games that intertwine and merge into each other.

One Angel Square

One Angel Square[1] is an office building in Manchester, England. Construction work began in 2010 and was completed in February 2013. The landmark building is the head office of the Co-operative Group. Standing 72.5 metres (237.8 feet) tall, the building forms the centrepiece of the new £800 million NOMA development in the northern quarter of Manchester city centre. The building cost at least £105 million to construct and was sold on leaseback terms in 2013 for £142 million.

One Angel Square is one of the most sustainable large buildings in Europe and is built to a BREEAM 'Outstanding' rating. It is powered by a biodiesel cogeneration plant using rapeseed oil to provide electricity and heat. The structure makes use of natural resources, maximising passive solar gain for heat and using natural ventilation through its double-skin facade, adiabatic cooling, rainwater harvesting, greywater recycling and waste heat recycling.

The building's distinctive form has been compared to a sliced egg and a ship.[16] Its design was announced by architects 3DReid in May 2009 and construction began in July 2010 with a projected completion date in March 2013. In December 2012, the scheme surpassed its pan-European sustainability aims and achieved a world-record BREEAM score of 95.32%. It is also an energy-plus building, producing surplus energy and zero carbon emissions. The building has received numerous awards for its striking aesthetic and sustainability aims.

The Rainy Day

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

By Simran Khurana

.

The day is cold, and dark, and dreary;

It rains, and the wind is never weary;

,

And the day is dark and dreary.

Be still, sad heart! and cease repining;

Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;

Thy fate is the common fate of all,

Into each life some rain must fall,

Some days must be dark...

Summer vacation in Gaspésie

Sainte-Thérèse-de-Gaspé is a municipality in the Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine region of the province of Quebec in Canada. It is the smallest municipality, in land area and population, of the Le Rocher-Percé Regional County Municipality.

Fishing is its primary business, and its harbour handles the fourth highest value of seafood in Quebec. Its factories, employing hundreds of people, process snow crab, rock crab, and lobster. In addition to the village of Sainte-Thérèse-de-Gaspé itself, the municipality also includes the community of Saint-Isidore.

Ross Abbey, Headford, County Galway, Ireland

The Ross Errilly Friary is a medieval Franciscan friary located about a mile to the northwest of Headford, County Galway, Ireland. It is a National Monument of Ireland and among the best-preserved medieval monastic sites in the country. Though usually referred to by locals as "Ross Abbey," this is not technically correct as the community never had an abbot.

Like many other abandoned Christian sites in Ireland, Ross Errilly has continued to be used as a burial ground by area residents. In addition to tombs that date from the friary's active period, many graves dating from the 18th through 20th centuries can be found inside the church walls. In some cases, tombstones comprise the floors of walkways and crawlspaces.

I didn’t even realise that this wonderful natural formation even existed until recently. I was in the western coast of Ireland when I found out and located this barely known arch stack!

It is located on a small peninsula called Crohy Head. Very difficult to climb down too and you even have to use a rope that is attached to some rocks on the cliff face! Amazing location with this very unique sea arch

One of the oldest homes in the Louisiana Purchase, Destrehan was constructed beginning in 1787 and completed in 1790. Robin de Logny contracted with a free man of color, Charles Pacquet, to build the house and outbuildings to support his indigo plantation. Pacquet was given the use of six slaves to build the house. He was paid the grand sum of "one brute negro," a cow and a calf, 100 bushels of both corn and rice, and $100 in cash upon completion. This building contract, still on file at the parish courthouse in Hahnville, LA, makes Destrehan Plantation the oldest documented house in the Lower Mississippi Valley.
