TOWERS and RAMPARTS of AIGUES - MORTES :

Built at the peak of Gothic architecture , the fortifications of Aigues - Mortes is a remarkably well preserved military stucture .

The ribbed vaults on the carved capitals , the gargoyles , the refined decor of the Tower of Constance , in contrast to the power of the defensive system of the curtains walls .

From the ramparts or from the dungeons ' terrace , you will discover a breath taking sight on the Camargue and the salt marshes whose colours alternate between blue and purple ...

Have a nice Weekend , my Friends .

It's hard to explain the feeling when you first see the Grand Canyon. It's so vast and magnificent it overwhelms the senses. A photo does not justify it's impact, it's like a mountain in reverse. You are at the top of this huge flat plateau and suddenly there it is WOW!

With elevations between 5000-7000ft. the weather conditions can be extreme. It was cold at the top 37F or 2.8C and very windy, (more on the wind with a later photo).

We were here to hike and it's a LONG way down about 9 miles, and scary in places. You can go all the way down to the Colorado River but not down and up in one day, unless you want to die. Hiking down with camping gear is very tough, but there are trails suitable for most including the rim trail which is suitable for bike and wheelchairs. We hiked the rim trail and it offers spectacular views from the top. The bus system in the Park is superb they come every ten minutes you hop on an off at various viewing points. A brilliant way to visit the Grand Canyon if you can't hike down.

You can travel down on a mule like the ones here they have a guide and the mules are perfect animals for this terrain. (not for a novice rider).

On our first hike we tackled The South Kaibab Trail. This shot of the mules was near the top. Our journey had begun.

M98 M99 and M100

Located in the Virgo cluster, M98 M99 and M100 are three galaxies identified in Charles Messier's catalog of of deep-sky objects. This cluster is part of the larger Virgo Supercluster to which the Milky Way galaxy is part of.

Distances to these three objects range from 41-52 million light-years. The above image is roughly 2.7 degrees wide - about 5.5 full moons. At least 10 other NGC and IC galaxies are also visible.

Markarian's Chain is also part of the Virgo cluster.

In order to get many of the valley shots with minimal foreground in the way, I had to stand inside bushes like the one in the foreground of this image. I decided it was a good idea to take a picture of the actual hiking trail itself to remember what the hiking conditions were like to get these amazing views (even though you can get nearly equivalent views from the roadway itself - HA!). Also, for those who have never been to Yosemite, it is impossible to impress the scale of these mountains. El Capitan, the prominent perpendicular cliff to the left-center of the image, is over 2.5 miles away from the camera, and the camera is not zoomed at all. Just to give myself some perspective, I picked a point near Harvard University on Google Maps that was 2.5 miles away from the Prudential Center (as the bird flies), and street view'd the Pru over the Charles River. You could see it, but it was a tiny speck in the distance. Here's the link if you're interested: goo.gl/maps/AyBd7Dp6FQ12 . Here is the equivalent distance street view (assuming same zoom on the street view camera) from 2.5 miles from El Capitan (and much further from the other features like Half Dome): goo.gl/maps/Pdqwjyzopun

I didn't try to take art photos of flowers (they are very beautiful of course 🌼), but I love flower photos where flowers in their own natural surroundings as I see them in reality... with grass etc. 🌷

The Dolomites are a mountain range located in northeastern Italy. Typical of the Dolomites are the steep cliffs and peaks created by erosion and weathering. They form a part of the Southern Alps. The Dolomites, also known as the Pale Mountains, take their name from the carbonate rock dolomite. In August 2009, the Dolomites were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Marmolada of 3343 meter high is the highest mountain of the Dolomites. On it's norther side there is flat glacier. The ridge is composed of several summits, decreasing in altitude from west to east. An aerial tramway goes to the top of Punta Rocca. During the ski season the Marmolada's main ski run is opened for skiers and snowboarders alike, making it possible to ski down into the valley. On the south wall of the Marmolada there are beautiful routes for mountaineers and many of them are also suitable for hiking.

Marmolada is a mountain in northeastern Italy and the highest mountain - 3342m, of the Dolomites, a section of the Alps. An aerial tramway goes to the top of Punta Rocca - The queen of the Dolomites. Its brilliant white glacier dominates many a beautiful panorama and is much admired by walkers from near and distant trails. The main slope is “La Bellunese”, which stretches from Punta Rocca 3269m down to Malga Ciapela at 1446m.

This source draws its name from the Roman era.

According to local tradition, the Roman lord Fussiacus established his camp near the source, hence the name of the village of Fussiacus, which became Fuissey and finally Fuissé.

The washhouse and the fountain date from 1722. The washhouse was rebuilt in 1848. This source never goes dry.

The long awaited cold frost has finally begun, On 2th of March 2018 we could skate. This time we enjoyed the natural ice at the National Park Weerribben-Wieden. The ice near the Weerribben-Wieden is just perfect for skating. Approximately 8 cm thick. The ice is hard and smooth and the wind of the last few days did blow the snow away. It's beautiful natural ice in the pretty surroundings of the National Park Weerribben-Wieden. A swamp, with vast frozen lakes, grasslands and an unprecedented wild bird wealth. Our tour was from Kalenberg and back to our starting point at Ossenzijl. In spite of the cold wind it was wonderful to skate on this sunny day. With its many waterways and ditches, the nature reserve is just like a fairytale. We are glad we went to the Weerribben-Wieden, it was fantastic.

Today 2th of March 2018 we got the opportunity to go ice skating on real ice instead of going to an ice rink. Inspite of the extreme wind chill warning and Real-Feel temperatures expected to around -12C, we decided to go skating at the National Park Weerribben-Wieden. These waterways in the winter are a real skater’s paradise.

Lombard street, a.k.a. "World's crookedest street" as they call it. Lombard street is a street in San Francisco, California and although it spans from Presidio all the way down to Embarcadero it is famous for a very specific portion of it: a steep downhill one block section with 8 (!) hairpin turns within 160 meters between Hyde and Laevenworth street. Unfortunately I couldn't find a decent spot to capture it perfectly but if you take a look at the photo you will notice that the cars that drive down Lombard street have very different directions. Lombard street sits on the side of the Russian hill and the fact that roughtly 2.000.0000 people per year visit it makes it is a very popular tourist attraction among San Francisco's sights. During busy summer weekends it is estimated that cars wait up to 20 minutes just to drive down the crooked part of Lombard street

The Sphinx, Recorded By Edgar-Allan-Poe-Not -

I don’t know what it is about the dimly lit forest that brings me back, time and time again. Maybe I’m wedded to the thrill of toppling over accidental astonishments. On a late Sunday afternoon, I felt the presence of a shadowy stalker in the darkest regions of the woods. We both seem to be on the same path heading to the same destination. Why is that? Pretending that I’m unaware, I slinked one foot briskly ahead of the other and tested by walking in circles instead of straight lines. The unwanted company followed suit and halted whenever I paused. This instant, my sixth sense confirms someone or something is trailing my shoeprints. Catching my breath beneath the low branches where tall grass grows, the soft flutter of wings get bigger. An entity definitely was in the background flitting from tree to tree. It wasn’t a copter drone sent by the National Security Agency for sure. If the lurker chased a wee bit harder I would be within reach. Frozen in fright, my legs were pushed to take flight. I run, run and run. As with any nightmare, you sprint but never speed an inch from where you stand. Disastrously, my pursuer so close finally overtook and reined right in front. In a state of panic, my fingers fumbled to click the camera’s skylight to kill whatever is before me. Eeeek! In the first second, my lenses directly perceived a hideous imp with acute panda ears. The face without eyes let fly a baleful glare that dared me to return his stare. Its devilish grin was so wide, I could be wolfed down alive. In an old voice cruel and flat, he mouthed a monotonous mock, “Monsters don’t live under the bed but inside your head. Cat…! Cat…! Cat…!” Coming next, my pumping heart shudders at the subject caught… oh, I was just viewing a secretive moth with cryptic markings inked on Pepsi-Cola wings!

That day, the sky gave us an absolutely fantastic sunset. The sun's rays stood out in the sky with beautiful colors, the mountain in front of us was all illuminated, it was stunning !

I'm pretty sure, he will not join the concert. But why?

This photo is not intended in the artistic or aesthetic sense. I also do not want to capitalize on the suffering of others. I'm asking why he can not attend a concert.

FAQ

What should I say, my dear friends - I had 5 wonderful sunsets and 5 sunrises on my short trip from Las Vegas to California and back - and each of them was so beautiful and special to me...and I am so thankful that I could watch this all. And I am also very pleased by your great comments - that is a bit as if you would have accompanied me on my trip - many many thanks!!

I took this photo during my second visit of Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes on my way back to Las Vegas...and it was...see by your selves...

- at 5 am...originally alt home I wanted to go there to start with taking pictures of the stars - but that was definitely the wrong time - it was fullmoon :-) so I switched from stars to moon...I walked about a mile to reach the first dunes - nobody there - no footprint at all - pure virgin nature - and because of the full moon I didn't even need my headlamp. It was so beautiful and I tried to avoid making unnecessary footprints...it felt as if I would destroy this beauty and so I took care as much as I could. The dunes here were not high, maybe up to 20 feet but that really didn't matter - the ripples and textures in the light and shadow of the moon just flashed me...and if you zoom in you also can see some stars :-)

Autumn.

This landscape was until October 24 and then winter was coming in southern Finland: 20 cm snow, freezing wind... I hate this weather. It's colder than usual for this time of year. Fortunately, today it's +6C and the snow melted in Helsinki. But it's raining now and gloomy weather.
