On this day a levada walk was on the agenda. Due to the previous storm we could not reach the original starting point of our hike and so we had to follow the Levada Ribeira da Janela in the opposite direction and return the same way - not optimal, but of course very easy to see in terms of timing. So we first hiked uphill, which was very easy given the slight gradient of the water channels, and returned after about 3 hours and a break. As it turned out, it was a beautiful tour with some tunnels to cross and a great waterfall. But what inspired me even more was this green "hell" - you really felt like you were in the jungle - unbelievably and unbelievably beautiful.

An diesem Tag stand eine Levada-Wanderung auf dem Programm. Aufgrund des vorausgegangenen Unwetters konnten wir den ursprünglichen Ausgangspunkt unserer Wanderung nicht erreichen und so mussten wir in umgekehrter Richtung der Levada Ribeira da Janela folgen und auf dem gleichen Wege wieder zurückkehren - nicht optimal, aber natürlich vom Timing her sehr einfach zu überblicken. So wanderten wir zunächst bergauf, was bei dem leichten Gefälle der Wasserkanäle sehr einfach war und kehrten nach rund 3 Stunden und einer Pause wieder zurück. Wie sich herausstellte eine wunderschöne Tour mit einigen Tunnels, die es zu durchqueren gab, sowie einem tollen Wasserfall. Was mich aber fast noch mehr begeisterte war diese grüne "Hölle" - man kam sich echt wie im Dschungel vor - unglaublich und unglaublich schön.

Passing through this very beautiful lake as we were heading out to Vancouver to visit some friends on this hazy day. The newly arrived train (on the other side of the lake) was an added bonus!

See the low floating/suspending mist in the far end? That's where we traveled from: on the one-lane (each direction) Trans-Canada Hwy which did not provide a suitable pulloff. (Isn't it a sin to build a scenic road and not provide pull-offs for photo ops?!?) The scenery along the way was out of the world, more so with the floating thick mist. My desire to photograph was so strong, but yet I couldn't, so you can imagine how I felt that morning! I'm sure it's something that you can relate to!😉

Alicante is a Spanish coastal city located on the Costa Blanca in the Valencian Community. The city is an important port for the export of central Spain and the region with its beautiful sandy beaches attracts many tourists. In Alicante we can find art, culture, seafood and beautiful beaches. Alicante has a beautiful old town with a beautiful boulevard along the coast Explanada de España and lively terraces. The most beautiful sight is the castle of Santa Barbara on Monte Benacantil a hill of 166 meters high. The history of Alicante dates back to 230 BC, when the city was founded under the name Akra Leuk. After that, the city became part of the Roman Empire and in 711 the Moors occupied the city, who also gave the city its current name 'Alicante'. The Moors also laid the foundation for the fortress on top of the Benacantil hill, but after the conquest by the Spaniards this grew into the castle Castillo de Santa Bárbara.
The old quarter Casco Antiguo – Santa Cruz of the city of Alicante is located below the castle. The district has retained the charm of a seaside village, with its steep, narrow, winding streets, with its white facades, its wrought iron bars and its colorful balconies thanks to the pots full of flowers. Today you can still see part of the walls that served to protect the former city. Being such a fortress, and given its location so close to the sea, the castle of Santa Bárbara made it possible to protect the city effectively while promoting maritime trade, which is why the first houses swirled around it logically, under its guard and guardianship. We were already there at 5 a.m. and around 6 a.m. only one other photographer appeared ... very rarely at this location ...

Kurz nach 6 Uhr am Hintersee - ich hate mir einen Tag freigenommen und war zusammen mit einem Freund mitten in der Nacht aufgestanden, um den Sonnenaufgang am Hintersee zu fotografieren - wie immer ein sehr schönes und an diesem Morgen auch einsames Erlebnis. Wir waren schon um 5 Uhr dort und so gegen 6 Uhr erschien nur noch ein weiterer Fotograf...sehr selten an dieser Lokation...

Its summit is 4,478 meters (14,690 ft) high, making it one of the highest peaks in the Alps.[2] The four steep faces, rising above the surrounding glaciers, face the four compass points. The mountain overlooks the town of Zermatt in the canton of Valais to the north-east and Breuil-Cervinia in the Aosta Valley to the south. The Theodul Pass, located at the eastern base of the peak, is the lowest passage between its north and south side.

The morning 7th of February I woke up to see Amsterdam covered in a coat of fresh snow. The snow fell in sudden flurries and gusts and turned the world white and wonderful. With the canals in the city and occasional high winds, there can be a nip in the air, but packing gloves and a scarf should keep you warm enough. There is something very beautiful about Amsterdam in the winter. It snowed for the second time this winter in Amsterdam. Because the temperature was -4 degrees Celsius the snow stayed. The real feel temperature was -11 degrees Celsius cause there was a strong wind and drifting snow. It got more than a few centimeters of snow. The best advice is to stay indoors and turn the stove up a bit. Or of course to go outside to take some nice pictures. The snow is a rare highlight in these February dark days, especially when you have small children. It is quite difficult to come up with something fun in these Covid-19 lock-down days. After a while, sitting indoors becomes quite monotonous for such a toddler. This is a welcome change. The snow also provides a lot of fun for children and adults here in Amsterdam. Snowball fight, make snowmen, go sledding and adults go cross-country skiing. All fun activities that people do in this beautiful snowy world.
Storm Darcy was a storm that hit parts of Western Europe from February 7, 2021. In the Netherlands, Belgium, the east of the United Kingdom and parts of the north and west of Germany, strong winds were accompanied by drifting snow, creating snow dunes. The last heavy snowstorm in Amsterdam dates from 1985. Photo taken in the Haarlemmerstraat next to Coffeeshop Amsterdamned located in Amsterdam’s Jordaan district, – and its extension the Haarlemmerdijk. Normally a lot of activity in this street that focuses on tourism. Now during the Lockdown everything closed with a few lost tourists in the distance. The Haarlemmerstraat is a gem. Offering independent boutiques and special stores, little salons, trendy but affordable restaurants and bars and the oldest cinema in Amsterdam, this area will appeal to even the most jaded of world travelers. You are guaranteed to find a special little something from Amsterdam in this alternative shopping district. The street are packed with boutique shops, cafes, coffee shops and with one little cozy dining and drinking spot after another and other interesting places to visit. The next days it will keep on snowing. Expected more than 17 cm snow in Amsterdam. It's a joy to walk around in my neighborhood.
Vanmorgen 7 februari werd ik wakker en zag Amsterdam bedekt met een laag verse sneeuw. De sneeuw die vannacht viel bedekte de wereld om ons heen wit en prachtig. Ik heb mijn camera gepakt en op pad gegaan in m'n buurtje. Ik geniet van het geluid van knarsende sneeuw onder mijn schoenen en het prachtige gezicht op de Amsterdamse grachtenpanden. Het is min vier graden en het blijft vandaag de hele dag sneeuwen. Met een stevige wind is de gevoelstemperatuur zelf -11 graden. Mijn handschoenen en m'n sjaal houden mij warm genoeg. Er is iets heel moois over Amsterdam in de winter. Amsterdam is bedolven onder dik pak sneeuw. Het beste advies is dan maar om lekker binnen te blijven en de kachel iets hoger te zetten. Of natuurlijk even naar buiten te gaan om wat mooie plaatjes te schieten. In Amsterdam heeft het nu voor de tweede keer deze winter gesneeuwd. Bij deze temperatuur blijft de sneeuw liggen. Er is meer dan enkele centimeters sneeuw gevallen. De sneeuw is een zeldzaam hoogtepunt tijdens de donkere lock-down dagen in februari. Foto gemaakt in de Haarlemmerstraat naast Coffeeshop Amsterdamned in de Jordaan, en het verlengde daarvan de Haarlemmerdijk. Normaal gesproken is er veel bedrijvigheid in deze straat die zich richt op toerisme. Nu tijdens de Lockdown alles gesloten met een paar verdwaalde toeristen in de verte. De Haarlemmerstraat is een juweeltje. Met onafhankelijke boetieks en speciale winkels, kleine salons, trendy maar betaalbare restaurants en bars en de oudste bioscoop van Amsterdam, zal dit gebied zelfs de meest afgematte wereldreizigers aanspreken. De straat zit vol met boetiekjes, cafés, coffeeshops en met de ene kleine gezellige eet- en drinkplek na de andere en andere interessante plaatsen om te bezoeken. De komende dagen blijft het sneeuwen. Verwacht meer dan 17 cm sneeuw in Amsterdam.

On rare occasions, I post black and white..and dry lands. Yes, I do not live near the sea..sadly.
This is the skyline of Metro Manila. The City of Manila is just one of the 16 cities that formally make up the metro. With 13 million population in a limited space, the metro is very dense and a breeding ground for the virus. And we are on a semi-lockdown again. Just like the picture, things are looking bleak.
I'll post a beach picture next time. Let us focus on things that make us happy 😊

Croatia is a country in Southeast Europe. Croatia is a beautiful country to discover many different landscapes. Dubrovnik is according to many one of the most beautiful cities on the Adriatic coast. This city in Croatia is also called the Pearl of the Adriatic. The historic center, or rather the completely walled fortress city of Dubrovnik, is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage. This part is still in a remarkably good condition. A wonderful place to discover on foot, it is a city with a diverse, but also rough past. Remarkably, the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, as well as the various monasteries, palaces and fountains have been preserved. They all tell their own story from the Middle Ages.
Dubrovnik is a city on the Adriatic Sea in southern Croatia. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Mediterranean Sea. The history of the city probably dates back to the 7th century. The old, completely walled fortress town from the thirteenth century is located at the foot of the mountain Srđ. From the immense city walls and towers you can look out over the city and the sea. Kroatië maakte deel uit van het voormalige Joegoslavië. Een bevolking van 4 miljoen, van wie de meesten katholiek zijn. Zagreb is de hoofdstad. In evenwicht tussen de Balkan en Centraal-Europa, wordt dit land al duizenden jaren doorgegeven tussen rivaliserende koninkrijken, rijken en republieken. De meeste attractie is de kustlijn met de opmerkelijke helderheid van het water en het witte kiezelstrand. Ondanks dat het de afgelopen tien jaar de snelst stijgende vakantiebestemming in Europa is, voelt Kroatië zich nog steeds niet overspoeld door toeristen. Dubrovnik is volgens velen één van de mooiste steden van de Adriatische kust. Deze stad wordt ook wel de 'Parel van de Adriatische Zee' genoemd. De compleet ommuurde vestingstad van Dubrovnik, staat op de lijst van Werelderfgoed van UNESCO. Dit deel is nog in een opvallend goede staat. Een heerlijke plek om te voet te ontdekken. Opvallend genoeg zijn de gotische, renaissance en barokke kerken, maar ook de diverse kloosters, paleizen en fonteinen bewaard gebleven. Ze vertellen allemaal een eigen verhaal uit de Middeleeuwen. De vestingstad uit de dertiende eeuw ligt aan de voet van de berg Srđ. Vanaf de immense stadsmuren en torens kijk je uit over de tad en de zee. Porporela is een pier en golfbreker in de oude haven van Dubrovnik, oorspronkelijk gebouwd in de oudheid om de intensiteit van de golven te verminderen, erosie te verminderen en boten en schepen die in de haven van Dubrovnik voor anker liggen te beschermen. Het is een erg populaire bezienswaardigheid in Dubrovnik om naar toe te wandelen als je door de oude binnenstad loopt. In de verte zie je een 16e-eeuws houten Piraten schip een traditionele Karaka-replica. Je kunt vanaf de haven in Dubrovnik een sunset cruise boeken.

France. Alpes. Savoie. Massif des Bauges. Département de la Haute-Savoie (74). Photo prise lors d'un aller-retour à la Petite Sambuy, au départ de la Station de Seythenex-La Sambuy.
La photo été prise dans la Combe de la Sambuy, en montant au Col de la Sambuy.
Au centre, on peut voir l'Épaule de la Sambuy (2120m) sous son meilleur profil, qui cache presque complètement le sommet de La Sambuy (2198m) mais celui-ci dépasse quand même très légèrement sur sa gauche (cf. mon indication sur la photo).
À droite, on peut voir le Col de la Sambuy (2080m). Une fois que j'avais rejoint le col, il ne me restait plus beaucoup d'efforts à faire pour rejoindre le sommet de la Petite Sambuy (2107m), en partant à l'opposé de la Sambuy et de son épaule.
Cette rando fut la 1ère rando de notre séjour alpin de l'été 2017. J'y suis allé seul car le dénivelé cumulé était trop important pour nos filles (960m). En fait, même moi, je n'avais jamais fait de rando avec un dénivelé aussi important avant ce jour. Bien sûr, j'aurais pu choisir une rando plus accessible à toute la famille mais les conditions météo étaient très incertaines et on essaie toujours de choisir des jours bien ensoleillés et sans risque de pluie et d'orage pour emmener nos filles. D'ailleurs, j'ai très peu vu le soleil jusqu'en milieu de l'après-midi. C'est là que j'ai pu prendre cette photo. Je suis vraiment très content que les nuages aient laissé passer le soleil à ce moment précis ! 🙏😊
Can you see the Little Egret up there in the willow tree ? The banks of the stream are so dense with vegetation I didn't see him (or her) until he flew up from the opposite bank. This is another one taken with my iPhone 11 while out on a morning walk with Marnie very recently.

Mon absence totale de connexion Internet pendant 2 semaines à Quiberon cet été a eu quelques bons côtés, comme celui de me donner du temps pour trier les photos d'anciennes sorties, comme celle-ci dans le Vercors l'été 2018.
France. Alpes. Massif du Vercors. Photo prise lors d'une rando en A/R au cours de laquelle je suis monté seul au de Tête Chevalière (1951m), en partant du village de Chichilianne, en passant par le Pas de l'Essaure et en longeant les magnifiques falaises du Ravin du Ruisseau des Arches.
Cette photo a été prise près du sommet de Tête Chevalière, avec une superbe vue sur 2 des principales vedettes du Vercors, à savoir :
o Sa star incontestée : le Mont Aiguille (2087m),
o Son point culminant : le Grand Veymont (2341m).
Je me réjouissais beaucoup de faire cette rando, en espérant faire plein de beaux clichés du Mont Aiguille sous son profil que je trouve le plus beau. Mais je n'ai pas été très chanceux car le Mont Aiguille a été dans l'ombre en permanence, à part un tout petit bout au soleil de temps en temps, comme sur cette photo. Malgré tout, j'ai quand même pu ramener de beaux clichés avec d'autres sujets qui ont été un peu plus généreusement ensoleillées. J'en publierai peut-être à l'occasion.

El mar de Vigo
La ría de Vigo es el mayor tesoro de la ciudad. Su origen, su motor, su pasado y futuro. De todas las rías gallegas, la nuestra es la que está más al sur de las Rías Baixas y se adentra en la tierra para mezclarse con el agua del río, mientras las laderas del valle costero se elevan formando montañas al borde de la costa, dibujando miles de formas irrepetibles...
Hermosa sin duda y, además, única: la ría de Vigo está protegida por las Islas Cíes, un parque natural en medio del Atlántico y puerta de acceso a la ría de Vigo desde mar abierto.
Éste es nuestro paraíso natural: el mar de Vigo, con sus aguas calmas y una riqueza marina sin igual. En ella, flotan alineadas las tradicionales bateas, en las que se cría el auténtico mejillón de la ría de Vigo, y se dibujan las siluetas de los más grandes trasatlánticos del mundo.
Porque, además de bella, la ría de Vigo es la de mayor calado de Galicia, lo que la ha convertido en uno de los principales puertos de Europa y en capital de la pesca.

Procida is the smallest island of the Gulf of Naples; it is rich in attractions and archaeology. From the ground floor of Napoli Centro train station, you can take the metro to station Pozzuoli then get off and take the ferry at the port of Pozzuoli. The architecture of Procida has a Greek origin. In fact, the history of Procida is concentrated first of all on the medieval village “Terra Murata” and on “Corricella”, the fishing settlement. The island has served as the set for numerous films, such as The “Postman”, and some scenes in “The Talented Mr. Ripley” were shot on Corricella. The landmarks of Procida reflect typical Mediterranean pastel colours. Procida offers simply cooking and at least 10 excellent restaurants with plain cooking based on fresh fish. This simple style never fails, thanks to the 20 local fishing boats. The specialties of the cooking are: stewed rabbit (which goes back to the Borbonen who came on Procida to hunt the wild rabbit) and spaghetti with sea-urchin. Procida has 6 beaches with crystal-clear waters. Spent some relaxing days on this wonderful island. Experience the real Italy, lovely people, great views, great sand and great food.
Procida is an island of sailors and fishermen, Procida simplicity is well summed up by the combination of it's excellent fish, outstanding lemons and pleasant white wine. A working fishing village Corricella with a restaurant dock area. One gorgeous port that looks like time has stood still which only adds to it's charm. Traditional fisherman working hard for little money. In the morning they leave with their private little fishing boats. Each fishermen knows how to throw the giacchio, a special and traditional fishing net. Waiting for fish. At the end of the fishing day they bring the fish home. The local fishermen on the island know all the tricks of the trade and have learned how to use this skill over the years. The fisherman displays his caught fish on the pier. You can immediately buy fresh fish including: Atlantic Herring, Seabream, Pandora, Calamaro, Ombrina and Octopus.

Vanaf de begane grond van treinstation Napoli Centro kunt u de metro naar station Pozzuoli nemen, uitstappen en de veerboot nemen in de haven van Pozzuoli. De architectuur van Procida heeft een Griekse oorsprong. In feite is de geschiedenis van Procida allereerst geconcentreerd op het middeleeuwse dorp "Terra Murata" en op "Corricella", de vissersnederzetting. Je kan gelijk zijn verse vissen kopen waaronder: haring, kustbaardman,
zeebrasem, pijlinktvis, ombervis en inktvis.

The building popularly known as Mirador Massue is located on the corner of Talcahuano and Tucumán streets, in front of Plaza Lavalle in the city of Buenos Aires. Designed in 1903 as a rental apartment building for David Costaguta, in 1989 it was partially demolished and remodeled to transform its use into rental offices, with only its well-known viewing tower surviving. Its current official name is Edificio Tribunales Plaza.

Helgoland is a German island in the North Sea.Helgoland was established around 4000 BC. an island due to rising sea levels after the last ice age. The island was colonized from Friesland in the 8th century. The current residents still speak a North Frisian dialect, the Helgolands or Halunder Freesk. It was incorporated into the Viking Empire. In 1720 a sandbank between Helgoland and the smaller island of Düne largely washed away due to a storm tide. The connection between the two islands was lost as a result. Heligoland remained in Denmark until 1814. The British conquered the island in 1807 from the Danes. The strategically important island. In 1890 the British exchanged Helgoland on Germany for East African Zanzibar. Emperor Wilhelm II converted Helgoland into a naval support point and it remained that way until after the Second World War. In the First World War all residents were forced to leave the island. At the end of World War II, a thousand airplanes from the Royal Air Force carried out a destructive bombing, dropping around seven thousand bombs, making the island uninhabitable and the population to be evacuated. In 1952 the population was allowed to return after long insistence.
The Helgoland museum offers a rich overview as to the history, the folklore and the nature of the island. Helgolander Franz Schensky (1871-1957) is one of the pioneers of black and white photography and has a permanent place in the history of German photography. Franz Schensky has his own place at the Helgoland museum. With his photos he takes you into the breathtaking world of the beauty of the North Sea. View of the west coast of Helgoland with the lighthouse, and its original church, built in 1685 on the Oberland. In de 8e eeuw werd het eiland vanuit Friesland gekoloniseerd. De huidige bewoners spreken nog steeds een Noord-Fries dialect, het Helgolands of Halunder Freesk. Het werd ingelijfd bij het Vikingrijk. In 1720 spoelde een zandbank tussen Helgoland en het kleinere eiland Düne door een stormvloed grotendeels weg. De verbinding tussen de twee eilanden ging daardoor verloren.
