This place was built in 1806. By the mid nineteen sixties 5 residential house parents lived there, 3 non residential house parents, a daily domestic staff consisting of cook, seamstress, gardener and 4 cleaning ladies, together with a lady to iron. Many of the domestic staff were from the small, picturesque village of Bramham. It closed it's doors in the mid 1980's. Today it lies derelict and slowly crumbling.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: I have a few Halloween themed Kelly dolls in my collection. Most of them didn't come in their original attire. I was excited, when I saw this Kelly pumpkin costume at Saver's. I thought perhaps it went to one of my dolls at home. I knew one of them was supposed to be a pumpkin. Instead, it turned out to belong to one of the Kelly dolls I bought that day! She wasn't in the same bag as the fashion. I found the doll herself loosely floating on the hanging racks. It was sheer luck that I found her, and put her into the baggy I was buying, which already contained this ensemble. The rest of the pieces were long gone. But this covers enough of Kelly for her to wear. Sadly, it's made of that material that will eventually peel and flake off. I did have to wash it due to the age and filth. But I made sure to only soak it for a few minutes. No harm done! I can paint this orange again once that happens, but the cute little face will be gone as well (I can try to recreate it, but I'm not sure how well I'd do).
Missing my Lewis... he has gone away for 3 nights on a residential music course - he's only 10 and he hasnt been away before!! Mind you, he did telephone last night and it sounded like they were having a party in his dorm.... 5 ten year old boys left to run wild around a boarding school out in the sticks.... as long as he manages to learn some music inbetween all the fun!
PS - Lewis is not the tortoise ;)
There used to be a footbridge here. Officially, a public footpath still passes across it. When a few years ago the path was diverted so it nolonger passed through newly built houses in East Wichel, this section was left untouched, even though the bridge had already been fenced off as unsafe.

Ford Junction and the missing link. If this short bit of track were put in, it would save about 20 minutes when trains were diverted from the Brighton main line due to engineering works etc. As its main use would be for emergency/engineering, it could be single track.

Kevin went missing! I brought (one of my 3) Kevin into my government class and two of my best friends kind of...uhm...duck-naped him. They didn't tell me though, which led to some interesting shennanigans. I told all of my teachers and everyone that i saw in the hallway. I then also had a picture of kevin on the last slide of a powerpoint that i had to present (the day he went missing) and made a short speech about kevin and the fact that i lost him...one of the 2 friends from my government class was in there and just laughing the entire time...I then went as far as giving the AV club a picture of Kevin and having him on the morning announcements.
I got him back though. So it wasn't really a huge problem...but it deffinetly made those few days more interesting!

There is a huge Chinese Rosewood chest that sits in the middle of my mom's bedroom back in the family home in Kuala Lumpur.
In it, lies basically the family history. From phototographs almost a century old to school report cards from yours truly. It was the rememberance of this latter items that made me think a little today and its perhaps why I was a little edgy throughout the day.
When I was 7, as some of you will know, I was really, really sick and my dad had to escort me to school to pick up one of these cards which detailed the results of a school exam taken just a few weeks before. He feared that as I was still unsteady in my feet, he needed to walk me to the office to see my teacher and get me my card.
I had scored 499 marks out of 500 in school that year. It was a disappointment of sorts as it was a point short of a perfect score which had an implication of sorts in the years that were to follow. The main thing that was of importance that happened that year was that he was there.
A fact that so often I tend to forget. He was there when I had my first operation when I was barely a year old. He was there when I had another in my journey to puberty and he was there when I nearly lost my life a few years later with an infection of the liver.
He was there when I lost my sanity in school and regained it in isolation. He understood my quirks and shortcomings and remained in his own way, supportive of me when I decided to chose my own path through life.
We never really got along, my dad and me. I felt his wrath more often than not and cherished the few times he held me. It was only during my birthday and Christmas when got a hug from him and I don't actually remember him actually displaying physical affection towards me.
I probably chose not to. As clearly, and in his own way, he must have cared deeply for me.
I have only a single possession of his with me. A battered old shirt which I keep in my wardrobe. Every time I see it, it reminds me of him.
My mom told me that he did express his disappointment at I wasn't what he'd expected. I should have conquered my demons and ended up successful. Or, at least not to struggle as much as he did.
He never told me this.
There is one other thing that lies in that chest. A stack of photographs taken this exact day 4 years ago. I have never seen them and will probably choose not to ever.
Its pictures of his funeral. He died in his sleep on this very day in 2004.
I never got to say goodbye.
I never even got the chance to show him that I wasn't a failure.
I never even said I loved him.
And I would give everything I own to hug him just that one more time.
