Tiny Dinosaur

Day 246 of 365

"Tiny Dinosaur"

I discovered today's subject clinging to a bedroom window yesterday, and asked if he/she would pose for me. When he/she did not say "no", I assumed I had his/her permission. I arranged living quarters for our guest in a glass tank, complete with rocks, a leaf, a fly and a dish of water. Our visitor has not said a word in regards to the accommodations. When the time of the shoot arrived, our model appeared a tad nervous, but I assured him/her that we would take it slow, and that I understood that he/she was not a professional model. After easing into the shoot, it was clear that he/she was a natural. As for the lighting, I had a large (by comparison to our subject) softbox just out of view at camera-left, and a matching softbox at camera-right. The even lighting just made the posing easier with a constantly moving model. Once I was able to grab him/her by the tail, we were off to the races! I was shooting with my 100mm macro lens, as I wanted to shoot close, and desired a shallow depth of field. That proved to be easier said than done, as our energetic model was twisting and turning at times. As you can imagine, it is not easy to hold focus when your model is flipping around. I ended up focusing as close to the lens as possible, and simply brought my hand further or closer as our subject gesticulated. For the last few images, I managed to have our model hang from his/her tail, thereby allowing for a full image of his/her lovely physique. It was of course at this time that.........our model had a.....wardrobe malfunction? Alright, our model's tail "snapped" off. Don't worrry!!! The tail will be fully functioning in about sixty days!!! Isn't there a saying about modeling that if it doesn't hurt, you're not doing it right? I apologize. Once my daughter has said her goodbyes....we will be releasing our model....without a model release. Thanks for stopping in!!
