My Mind Sanctuary.
Do you remember a special place in your travels that you return to in your mind when you need sanctuary from stress? This is my place, an old fishing lodge on Alta Lake in Whistler, Canada.
The French Canadian caretaker who was looking after the lodge could see how I was captivated by the lake, the mountains and the lodge. When he found out I was from Australia he nodded and asked, "do you love the ocean and beach back home?"
I said yes I did but added, "but living in this lodge I'm not missing the beach at all."
He replied, "that's because when you live next to the mountains and lakes, and you send your feelings out to them they are reflected back at you, and when that happens you'll never leave. For people like you, people who look out to the sea, your feelings keep travelling as they have nothing to bounce them back, so you need to follow them, and so you do.
The lodge was run and owned by Hostel International from 1969 to 2010, when it changed hands and is now a community based artist retreat called the Point Artists. This post is dedicated to all of us who have enjoyed staying at the lodge.
