Alta Lakes Colorado. Beautiful lakes at 11,3000 ft altitude, quite remote, at least when we were there. Camping was very cold in September!

Greetings! Darling Tonia and I survived another whirlwind traveling camping trip, this was taken from our campsite on Alta Lake in Eastern Washington, what a great spot. First night was an adventure though, as you can see in the chop we had 50 mph sustained winds and no fires allowed. :-)
Alta is a tiny gem, one half mile wide and two miles long and surrounded by Old Goat Mountain towering one mile above makes for a great blue hour as the sun disappears long before nightfall.
I'm off to see what y'all have been up too, I'm certain that you waited for me to get back..... :-)
Reflection of a mountain range including Blackcomb, Wedge, Weart and Mount Currie from Rainbow Park. This is a long exposure using a 10 stop ND filter taken with the Canon EOS 5dsr.
A pristine collection of small alpine lakes found way up in the San Juan Mountains near Telluride, CO. High suspension and 4WD is recommended for reaching them. The views are insane. And the mountains are just riddled with abandoned mining towns from the 19th century.

The full colours of alpine autumn in the coastal mountains of British Columbia were on display for a brief magical moment of about one week in mid-October. This coincided with the first autumn dusting of fresh snow over the mountain peaks - an exhilarating sign that a new ski season is just around the corner.
The late-afternoon alpine autumn colours reflect off the quiet glacial mountain waters of Alta Lake (642 m, 2106 ft). Wedge Mountain (2892 m), Armchair Glacier, and the ribbed volcanic crater rim of Mount Weart (2870 m) loom large in the backdrop.
Access to the glacier and crater rim involves a steep, strenuous, often challenging 7 km (4.3 mile) hike - first through a dense subalpine rainforest of old-growth red and yellow cedars and Douglas firs, then a scramble across several volcanic rock slides and boulder fields, ultimately arriving at a pristine turquoise crater lake at the foot of the glacier - a stiff elevation gain of 1160 m (3800 ft).

I was waiting for the traffic to subside before driving home , so i decided to go for a hike on rainbow mountain. I always wanted to find this spot, one of the best view of the resort!
Alta Lakes Colorado. 11,000+ elevation and camping was lonely and COLD! Started snowing when we woke.

The Alta Lakes in western Colorado are reached by a 4.5-mile dirt road off of Highway 145. As the crow flies, the lakes are about 3.6 miles south of Telluride. With disbursed camping along the shores, the three lakes appear to be popular for fishing.

It has been many Aurora activity lately, but we still kept getting the usual weather of rain and cloudy in Vancouver. Without any luck to get out for some night sky beauty. I have to stay home digging through some of my old photos. Come across this panorama I missed from May 2016. One of the best Aurora night I had over the years. It was just right in Whistler, British Columbia. Hopefully to have some clear sky with some colorful night beauty again soon! Hope you enjoy this and have a great night!
