Comment: "Nyepi, Bali's "Day of Silence", catches on worldwide as 8 artists from across the globe come together to contemplate life beyond and within silence. Alone and separate, we leave our silences for the raging torrents of life, interacting with the world around us, willing a presence as we bruise and are bruised, before we turn once again to silence, desperately heavy and human. The cryptic inflected voices of Holzer, Fathi's motions of prayer, Rahman's intensely personal pleats and folds and Ishizuka's rice melodies especially stir in me memories of that unfamiliar sensation of silence, when the roar of life cedes and you can hear yourself think again.
