ZigZag events WEAVE 5 sept. 2014. Photo by Tomek Whitfield

I had precious little time to take shots at Georgia Tech today, but I got a couple of the amazing Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons. One of the most beautiful and functional academic buildings I've ever seen! More info: clough.gatech.edu/

Iris brevicaulis, in a pond at the Wildflower Center. Native to the South, and in Texas found in several counties near the Louisiana border.

While practicing "Zen snow shovel on driveway" meditation, I created a temporary zigzag zen garden.

Thanks to the Hereios of We're Here! for the inspiration of The AmaZing Z.

My first completed quilt (note - definitely not the first quilt I've started!). I used Crazymomquilt's zigzag pattern and Oh Fransson's binding tutorial - both absolutely fabulous!

The floor in St Leonards church, Thorpe, Derbyshire

Not sure what was making the reflections in this pond or maybe the zigzags were caused by the ripples made by this Muskrat that was heading towards me. I thought the thin black lines were a little different.

DB Schenker Rail (UK) Ltd's class 66 (JT42CWR) number 66111 in English, Welsh and Scottish Railway maroon livery with zigzag gold band, large number and EWS logo is photographed working 4E26 from Dollands Moor sidings to Scunthorpe Redbourne sidings on 26 September 2014. It was also photographed by Tom Merrill later on route passing Grassthorpe. This service returns empty FIA 'Multifret' twin intermodal flat wagons used to transport steel for export in billet form from Tata Steels Scunthorpe complex on South Humberside in Lincolnshire (see Andy Pictons photo) to a freight yard at Ebange in Eastern France via Dollands Moor and Calais Fréthun through the Channel Tunnel (click here for the route ). Laurent Knop photographed Euro Cargo Rail's loco number E 186-317 at Valenciennes (Nord - department 59) hauling loaded wagons working from Calais Fréthun to Ebange on 2 April 2014. Nicolas Tomaszewski also videoed a loaded train passing Beuvrages hauled by Euro Cargo Rail's E186 162-4. Once in Ebange the steel is used at Tata's Hayange rail mill to produce rail for SNCF's LGV Est européenne construction programme to extend the French high-speed rail network. Wagons being hauled included numbers 33 70 4938 743 0, 33 70 4938 511 1, missed, 31 70 4938 321 7, 31 70 4938 110-4 and 31 70 4938 505 5. 66111 (works number 968702-111) was built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division, London, Ontario, Canada in 1998 and unloaded from the Heavy Lift Ship MV "Stellamare" at Newport Docks on 29 May 1999.

Leptoglossus occidentalis

Western Conifer Seed Bug.

Leptoglossus occidentalis

Western Conifer Seed Bug

Family: Coreidae

A very large and spectacular squashbug which has characteristic expansions on the hind tibiae and a white zigzag mark across the centre of the forewings.

Native to the USA and introduced into Europe in 1999, it has since spread rapidly and during 2008-2011 influxes of immigrants were reported from the coast of southern England, with a wide scatter of records inland.

The bug feeds on pines and is probably well-established here; nymphs have been found at several locations. It is attracted to light and may enter buildings in search of hibernation sites in the autumn. Further information

Adult: All year

Length ~20 mm

crazymomquilts great tutorial! this was a pretty easy to sew up, maybe I should have attempted this kind of thing first? I hand-quilted it along the zigzag lines and pieced a scrappy strip on the back with leftovers from the front.

I love it so much, especially the back, but it is a little too small to use as a lap quilt for an adult. It would be great for a kid, but I can't quite bring myself to sell it or give it away.

20 April 2010: A young man blows smoke from a joint during the 420 rally on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. 420, 4:20 or 4/20 (pronounced four-twenty) refers to consumption of cannabis, and by extension, a way to identify oneself with cannabis drug subculture. Started by a group called the Waldos in 1971 because members would hang out by a wall after school in San Rafael, California. They would often meet at 4:20 pm by a statue of Louis Pasteur to search for a crop of cannabis they heard about but never found. In doing so they smoked plenty of marijuana while on their search.
