Identifying asters is always tricky, so it helps to have a botanist who can key these out! This plant did not have a label, but our tour guide at the Daniel Boone Native Gardens claimed it was a Zigzag Aster (Symphyotrichum prenanthoides). It is native to the eastern US with its southern-most populations in North Carolina and Tennessee. It is listed as a threatened species in Canada and some New England states.
Lemme know what you think of this one, honestly. I"m not sure about this one, something is not quite right for me. Hmmm, maybe it's my eyes? lol
