Union Pacific's ZDVLB 06 zigs and zags down the 1869 track alignment through Castle Rock, Utah in Echo Canyon on Oct. 6, 2023. The more gradual 1917 track alignment, built for eastbound trains on a steady 1.14% ruling grade, creates an illusive "split screen" amid hearty cedar and juniper trees.
