When EV ‘retrofit’ conversions were authorised in France, in 2020, Renault became interested and partnered with R-Fit, a pioneer in the field, to develop kits to convert an ICE model into an electric car. The kits were sold by the Méhari Club de Cassis and were subsequently homologated for use on the road. One of them was for the Renault 5: developing 30bhp and keeping the original gearbox, it offered a range of 80km.
In 2022, Renault seized a double opportunity – on the one hand, its new partnership with the Roland Garros tennis tournament, and on the other, the 50th anniversary of the Renault 5 – to convert a few R5 GTLs into electric cars for use as official shuttles to transport players and members of the organising staff. The interior design was entrusted to Renault Design, who selected fabrics and materials regardless of cost.
Finished in canary yellow, this three-door R5 R-Fit has special blue cloth upholstery with yellow piping which is also to be found on the door cards, while the base and back of the seats are trimmed in grey to match the white dashboard. Yellow carpets and a dark blue headlining with black flame motifs round off this spectacular interior. The body carries the official tournament logos, while under the bonnet sits the electric motor, with a badge on top marked ‘Renault 5, 50’. This rare and exclusive version of the Renault 5, the sixth-bestselling car in France with more than 5 million units sold, is sure to appeal to enthusiasts. It has the advantage of having been customized by the Renault Design staff regardless of cost and of being homologated for road use in France.

If you're wondering, bZ equates to "beyond zero," as in zero emissions and represents an Earth-conscious ideology where carbon-free mobility and sustainable materials eventually become the norm. The compact SUV is slightly wider and longer than the RAV4 and stylistically differentiates itself with black fender paint no matter which of the five colors you choose. My Elemental Silver Metallic seemed to be the most fitting hue for the contrasting scheme. Toyota said the graphics also enhance the corners for a more dynamic appeal along with the EV's angular lines, good-looking alloys wheels, a tailgate spoiler, and black outlining. A fixed panoramic glass roof is refreshing, and SofTex fabric seats enlighten the cabin and thoughtfully replace the reliance upon leather.

We do not cycle only when the weather is sunny and the birds are singing. Sometimes it's raining when cycling, sometimes you got a flat tire and sometimes those two events coincide with each other.
It happened today on my daily commute back from work. It pays off to have some bike mechanic skills and change the tube on the spot. So always bring a spare, tools and pump.

A legend that was an inseparable part of the French automotive scene from the 1960s to the 1990s, Renault’s first front-wheel drive car, the Renault 4, introduced a rear tailgate, long-travel suspension and an excellent load capacity. In 2021, to celebrate the model’s 60th anniversary, the manufacturer had five cars converted to electric power.
It chose versions symbolising the model, which were completely restored by the staff at the Collection before being sent to EV Europe, a Dutch specialist which carried out the conversion, replacing the petrol engine by an electric motor and installing the batteries. The motor is directly connected to the gearbox, which is locked in third, with an electrical inverter providing reverse gear. A screen has been added on the left-hand side of the dashboard to display the information specific to the electric powertrain. The car produces about 30bhp and has a range of approximately 100km.
This Renault 4 has been rebuilt in the style of the ‘Jogging’ limited edition which came out in 1981 and was aimed at young buyers; only 5000 units were produced, and they are impossible to find nowadays. Finished in white with blue accents, it has a large blue sunroof and superb leather upholstery in the same colour. The tailgate has a ‘Renault 4, 60 Anniversary’ logo and the odometer is reading just over 1000km, doubtless the distance it has covered since being converted. The car can only be registered in the Netherlands. This car offers the ease of use of an EV and is sure to appeal to Renault 4 enthusiasts with a liking for its limited-edition models.

It was an exciting day tossing German machinery around the 1.6-mile, 14-turn Driver Development Track at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta, GA. It provides advanced instruction for enthusiasts and features a Heritage Gallery, Classic Factory Restoration Workshop, Driving Simulator Lab, and a Personal Design Studio.

It was a pure moment of reflection into the future of mobility as the emergence of electrification conversations continue to take precedence in an era of global warming and planetary resource depletion. This past weekend I had a chance to test drive the Lucid Air Dream Launch Edition and experience the new Lucid Studio at Tysons Corner Center outside of the DC-metro area. It features a 4K Virtual Reality Experience Configurator for customers to personalize their vehicle from exterior hues to interior material selections, all inspired by and named after specific cities in California such as Santa Monica, Santa Cruz, and Tahoe.
I had the pleasure of a spirited test drive around Fairfax County in a 2022 Eureka Gold Lucid Air Dream Edition. Sorry, all 520 units have been claimed by forward thinkers! Expect a starting price of $169,900 and a blazing fast 2.42 second 0 to 60 mph time. The vehicle's design is exquisite and its performance is magnificent. Depending on packaging, the top output is an astonishing 1,111-horsepower and 520 miles of range with 19” wheels. Lucid was going for efficiency during the product planning process, but performance became the byproduct.
In addition to the Dream Edition, the Lucid lineup includes the $77,400 ($69,900 with available federal tax credit) Lucid Air Pure, the $95,000 Lucid Air Touring, and the $139,000 Lucid Air Grand Touring.

The automotive industry is currently embarking on a reflective journey where the ultimate goals are carbon neutrality and consumer electric vehicle (EV) education. Every manufacturer is now perpetuating this theme, from Rolls-Royce to Toyota, which launched its first electric RAV4 back in 1997. Therefore, with 22 years of experience in the category and a whopping 41% market share (including Lexus), the Japanese powerhouse is ahead of the curve from every perspective. Furthermore, with a $1.3 billion investment in new battery plants that will generate 1,700 jobs and 1.2 million EVs, Toyota is releasing another EV built in conjunction with Subaru, dubbed the bZ4X. No, that’s not an internal code, but the actual name of the vehicle.

This five-door R5 R-Fit thus has a number of special details which give it all its charm: the ‘tulip’ seats are trimmed in a very attractive grey flecked fabric with the tournament logo reproduced on the backrest, while the side storage compartments are made from a section of a real tennis net! It is even said that the netting came from a court at Roland Garros. The white paintwork, with body-colour bumpers, carries all the official tournament logos, while under the bonnet sits the electric motor, with a badge on top marked ‘Renault 5, 50’. With more than 5 million units sold, the Renault 5 counts among the company’s greatest successes, and with its popular and likeable image, it is highly regarded by collectors. This magnificently restored version with its unique finish wraps the charm of the original model in a zero-emission package which has the enormous advantage of being homologated for use on the road.
