Eyes intently focused, the Great Grey Owl had locked onto a sound and launched into a hunting run over the snow covered field.
Super hearing allows the owl to zero in on the sound made by prey under anywhere up to a foot of snow from a great distance.

Possibly zero access to Flickr (hopefully not!) I will be away soon, off to Snowdonia with my lovely sister Margaret. I won't be on much at all from Sunday 14th July for a few days. I hope to have time to show you a few photos from there in future, if I manage any good ones !
This was taken in Plantsbrook Nature Reserve - not Wales - at the very end of May. Amazing to think how lovely the weather was then, how much rain we've had since - and now it's 'changeable'. That's the UK for you - 'changeable' in most ways !

Yesterday I posted those alien-looking bugs, so today I chose something of opposite nature, a Monarch Butterfly.
Backstory: I was in a meadow taking macros of wildflowers when the winds started up. Just then the Monarch came to nectar on the Meadow Blazingstar. I was sitting on the ground, afraid to move as the butterfly posed away. This is one of several images from that summer day.

Macro Mondays is a weekly challenge theme group. This week's theme was "Damage," meaning things that are broken, flawed, non-functional etc.
This is a broken piece of a Butterfinger candy bar. By the way, I've heard that there are no calories in broken candy bars or cookies. I don't know if that is really true, but I'd like to think so! )0: HMM!

The main square in from of the Notre-Dame where one can see the zero point of the roads of France, that is to say the kilometric point 0 of the roads leaving the capital, which is used as a reference for the calculation of the distances with the other cities of France.
Sandstone cave window. This is on the path behind my Dads house, I rarely walk there but the bluebells led me that way! (More to follow)

In a ditch (where else would you find me), I spotted this butterfly nectaring on alfalfa. I like this view because we can see the distinctive black border of the upper wings and its bluish-grey eyes, field marks of this species.
