Eyes intently focused, the Great Grey Owl had locked onto a sound and launched into a hunting run over the snow covered field.

Super hearing allows the owl to zero in on the sound made by prey under anywhere up to a foot of snow from a great distance.

Possibly zero access to Flickr (hopefully not!) I will be away soon, off to Snowdonia with my lovely sister Margaret. I won't be on much at all from Sunday 14th July for a few days. I hope to have time to show you a few photos from there in future, if I manage any good ones !

This was taken in Plantsbrook Nature Reserve - not Wales - at the very end of May. Amazing to think how lovely the weather was then, how much rain we've had since - and now it's 'changeable'. That's the UK for you - 'changeable' in most ways !

Take care of yourselves and have a lovely time everyone !

And for no reason at all, apart from the fact I love Joan Armatrading and this song, here is some music for you.

Thank you for looking - every view, comment and fave is really appreciated !

Hi Everyone!

Yesterday I posted those alien-looking bugs, so today I chose something of opposite nature, a Monarch Butterfly.

Backstory: I was in a meadow taking macros of wildflowers when the winds started up. Just then the Monarch came to nectar on the Meadow Blazingstar. I was sitting on the ground, afraid to move as the butterfly posed away. This is one of several images from that summer day.

Thank you for looking and for your comments, I do love hearing from you! Have a great weekend!

Pavilion Zero takes the visitor on a journey to explore how much humankind has produced, the transformation of natural landscape, and the culture and rituals of food consumption. Seems room.

... but the temperature was rising during this sunset episode from a mid-day value of -7 F as warmer air was moving in from the west. After 45 minutes at this temperature the camera sounded a bit anemic as mechanical parts began to freeze up.

Hope those of you in the northern and central US have not been adversely effected by the Arctic air that arrived this past week. Hope everyone also had a nice holiday- Christmas or whatever it is you celebrate. I received a gift that I would rather have not gotten- COVID, my first known case, with severe congestion and fever. I'm hoping it starts to wane over the next few days, but if my comments on your posts seem a bit wacky you'll know why ;-)

I want to thank all of you, my Flickr family, for your incredible support and words of encouragement on my last post. You have no idea how much I appreciate your friendships! I thought I'd only be off for a couple of days, but a lot of things have happened to prevent me from being online since my sister's passing.

On the day I took this shot, our whole family was gathering at the river on a cold foggy morning. We couldn't see the trees on the other side, nor where the water met the sky.

I will be coming back to Flickr slowly, so please have patience with me if I don't comment on your images right away. I've missed you!
