52 weeks the 2017 Edition -perspective, point of view
I'm beginning a series of images and recollections from homegrown rural Saskatchewan, it's not really far from my city doorstep if you plan a 400km return trip, I have so much sitting within the digital vaults. Spotting another photographer is an exceedingly rare event in wide spaces, the historical remnants of early settlers are unmistakably everywhere, always permeated by a forlorn presence. A calm reassurance of forgetting about schedules makes the passage of time easy.
A Sunday afternoon drive North East of the city, under clear February skies last light is gently fading on the Saskatchewan town of Eatonia. What little snow remains with mild temperatures is gasping for coldness.
From Highway 21 North of Leader, you'll notice glistening on an elevated hillside the Eatonia Golf Club remains, a sturdy weathered building once a hub of summer golfing pleasure. It's now the domain of the elements and a host of pigeons for company.
There simply wasn't luxury golfing on this roughshod prairie surface… unforgiving, challenging, and determination is moreover the character. As I hesitantly left, I knew I'd listened in on a host of fleeting conversations and leisurely gatherings.
I'm sure I heard someone whisper, "The longest yard isn't the one before you, it's the measure inside you."

It took more than a year, but the squirrels finally figured out how to get to the window mounted bird feeder.
Four of Kanawha River Railroad's SD60's await their call back to the West Virginia coal fields in Dickenson Yard. KNWA's fleet of former Norfolk Southern SD60's are primarily used to assist run-through NS power over the steep grades of the former Virginian's Princeton Deepwater District.
I was shocked & thrilled to look out my window and see a northern flicker at my water fountain. First time in my yard, normally a forest kind of bird. We had a rare heavy snow and extreme cold day which means tons of bird action in my yard. I keep my fountain going with a stock tank heater and it brings them in. The flicker ignored my suet and just went for the water. The robin seems puzzled as to who this large intruder is.

At 55 Hudson Yards, the 780-foot office building designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox in collaboration with Kevin Roche John Dinkeloo and Associates, glass cladding is rising into place.
The building’s exterior is inspired by early modernism, and if you squint hard enough it’s easy to recognize a likeness in period architecture icon the Seagram Building. And 55 Hudson Yards will be a Seagram of sorts, but for a new era. Today developer Related Companies announced that law firm Cooley LLP has signed on for 130,000 square feet over five floors towards the top of the 51-story building.
The building is still making its ascent, but is poised to top out any day now and open in 2018.
Meanwhile, 30 Hudson Yards continues to rise to its 1,296-foot apex. As of now, the Kohn Pedersen Fox-designed building is still shorter than its neighbor at 55 Hudson Yards. The office building will eventually become the New York home base of companies like CNN, HBO, Time Warner, and two of the biggest developers of the neighborhood: Related and Oxford Properties Group. Construction is expected to wrap up on 30 Hudson Yards in 2019.
A GP15-1 and a GP38-2 idle near the engine terminal at UP's Salt Lake City yard. There isn't a lot running here on this Labor Day afternoon.
A CSXT Yard job is switching in the former New Haven North Yard in the busy little Framingham terminal which serves as the eastern Mass carload hub that feeds myriad locals which fan out around suburban Boston.
Handling the chores are pair of veteran EMD SD40-2s, CSXT 8400 and 8804. The former is a rebuilt SD40-2 and is rather noteworthy having been originally built as a straight SD40 in July 1969 as Western Maryland 7449. The trailing unit was blt. in Jul. 1977 as CR 6375 and is on home rails here as all of this is former Conrail territory.
