Mature white tailed doe. This "white tail" has a lot of white, the lower half is normally also dark.

You never know what's hidden in the nooks and crannies, so better check it out.

Having missed the opportunity to photoraph the Longtailed ducks at the pond N.of Sruce grove I played with the Tree swallows a bit.

Going through my archives I came across one of my most favourite diorama's. I designed the foreground and painted the background in 1980. There are many challenges involved in making such a large diorama. The most difficult part is to make the three dimensional "foreground" blend in with the two dimensional painted "background". In this case the vegetation of the sedges. They were made from paper with a wire protruding at the bottom and placed in a foam underground. The nest was collected from a sight after the swans had finished incubating and the cygnets had fletched. The specimens for this diorama were obtained from the Can.Wildlife Service, not killed for the purpose of this display. The adult was a power line casualty, the cygnets had died from a chemical imbalance of sorts in the water. I was fortunate to get them otherwise it would just have been the swan incubating on the nest. Needless to say the taxidermy is of the highest quality.

The dimensions of such diorama are as follows.

The width is 16 feet , the depth is 8 feet with rounded corners with a domed ceiling 12 feet high.

After everything was put in position it took almost 70 gallons of polyester resin, poured in place in layers over several days to give the illusion of water.

The location of this lake was near Grande Prairie, AB.

They have arrived.

Several short-eared owls were observed in Beaver county this winter. There must have been a good supply of voles judging by the succes rate of the owls catching them.

They are still at it. The geese have not given up and neither have the beavers although they keep putting more material on top of the house. The geese seem to have moved a bit to the back for their place. If a beaver gets to close to the top the geese chase the beaver back into the water only for them to get back on the house on an other side.

Got three of the five siblings in a frame. What a delight to observe all that mock fighting and running around, The one on the right was going to chase his other two siblings.

It does not happen all that often that the photographer has to back off because the subject is TOO CLOSE. Understandably that is out of the question in a situation like this. Getting one in the open is a dubble bonus.A very exiting encounter of this elusive rail.

Why do they always give me the cold shoulder ? I like to see that nice speckled front !

Last posting of my encounter with this great accipiter.

Most of the shots I dumped because of the bad lighting when I first spotted this beautiful raptor.

It seems like it has already shed (dropped) one antler judging by the bare patch of the pedicel on his head above the eye.

It happens every Spring. The first RWBB arrive and I go trigger happy (again).

This one is doing his typical courtship display to tell other males that this is his territory. Yet no females around to impress on.

Getting the right ID on those thrushes is challenging. Getting a photograph of one is almost imposible, in my humble opinion. They are so hard to see, cryptically colored and very skittish. I was glad to see that cinnamon coloured tail which the Swainsons don't have.

This is my take on the XP Bliss background. This is a field I pass (almost - depending on the route I take) daily to work. It looked stunning a few weeks back at sunrise, so I waited until the right conditions before actually taking today.

Modified in Paintshop Pro 7, since there were some rather obtrusive power lines right across the middle of the field.

This was the culprit that gave me a good scare right after I made this shot. Fortunately it did not complete the charge because I threw my arms out wide and hollered WHOA. To clarify the situation, it was just getting annoyed with the "crowd" gathering around and I was the closesed "annoyance". I have been around moose in the past , (cows with two calves etc.) at close quarters. No problem.Calmly moving around them even when they were bedded down they did not even got up and dozed off. That's how boring they found me (*_*)

To my friends ~> [ M , M , F ]

Our friendship started many years ago.

Where the days have gone I don't know,

But when I think of all we've done

I stop and smile because we've had such fun.

I hope you know how much I care.

always remember this when I say,

"Our friendship is a treasure

Well beyond any measure. "
