These red Swedish license plates are definitely eye-catching. And like thie Volvo XC90, many Volvos I've seen were U.S.-specs, picked up by their owners at the factory to then be driven around Europe before eventually importing to America. I am still waiting for a non-Volvo temporary plate.

The second generation of the XC90 has been introduced recently. It has the difficult task to succeed the first generation XC90 which was built for 12 years and was quite succesful. No more large engines as the car now has a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine in petrol and diesel versions with different outputs. There will also be a plug-in hybrid available.

Designed by Thomas Ingenlath with interior by Robin Page the second generation XC90 went on sale in the 2015 model year. The XC90 is based on Volvo's new platform, marketed as Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) technology which features a stronger platform offering weight reduction while improving safety and efficiency. The vehicle is longer, wider and lower than its predecessor. All engines in the XC90 are 2.0-litre four-cylinder Drive-E powertrains with Volvo's eight-speed Geartronic transmission, delivered by Aisin. The line-up include two petrol engines: a twincharged 320 hp and a twin turbocharged unit producing 254 hp, two diesel engines: a twin turbo 235 hp and a single Turbo with 190hp
The T8 plug-in hybrid version of the XC90 is based on technology used in the Volvo V60 PHEV, its batteries can be charged using an electric vehicle charger and can also store energy recovered by regenerative braking. Volvo says that the XC90 T8 sacrifices no passenger or cargo space to accommodate the hybrid equipment, however the fuel tank was reduced to 50 litres and the spare tyre removed.
The vehicle emits 49 g/km of CO2 and has an all-electric range of 43 km (27 mi) under the New European Driving Cycle. Normal driving is conducted in the default hybrid mode, but the driver can switch to a mode that uses only electric power, with zero emission driving. The all electric range 14 miles (23 km), with some petrol consumption o the actual all-electric range was rated between 0 to 13 miles (0 to 21 km). At launch, for the 2016 model year, the XC90 T8 used a 9.2 kWh (33 MJ) lithium-ion battery, over time Volvo have continued to gradually increase the battery size. For the 2018 model year, it was increased to 10.4 kWh and 11.6 kWh for 2020 In 2021 the T8 powertrain was updated with a more powerful electric motor (delivering 107 kW (143 hp; 145 PS)), updated engine and increased battery capacity
The second-generation Volvo XC90 is available in three distinct trim levels: Momentum, R Design, and Inscription. Momentum is the base design, and does not include features such as full leather-trimmed seating surfaces, woodgrain interior trim, or a GPS navigation system as standard equipment. The R Design features Nubuck upholstery and a sports exterior body kit, as well as dark trim accents on the exterior and interior. Inscription is the top-of-the-line design, and features full perforated Napa leather-trimmed seating surfaces, woodgrain interior trim, dual heated front, optional heated outboard rear seats, and additional bright accents on the exterior.
In February 2019, for the 2020 model year, the XC90 received a mid-cycle facelift. which included revised front and rear fascias includes a new front grille design, new exterior colours, new wheel designs, For the 2021 model year, the T8 power plant was renamed the XC90 recharge.

An XC90 from Sweden, nothing too rare here but still a nice spot.
This Volvo XC90 on Belgian diplomatic plates, was travelling along the A1 autobahn. I think this was the first instance I could spot these diplomatic plates on a bike rack, hence the lack of 'CV' seal on the plate. Belgian diplomatic plates, much like their BeNeLux counterparts, are not coded to a specific diplomatic mission.

1/43 Code 3 conversion of a Volvo XC90 D5 AWD in the livery of an Official Volvo Demonstrator.
This model is based upon an actual vehicle that has been loaned to many UK police forces as an ARV or RPU vehicle.
I liked the livery, especially the black bonnet, so decided to recreate it. The base model is white and was made by Norev. I have designed, custom-made and applied the decals to the model.
It comes in the original box with a Certificate of Authenticity. It is a ONE-OFF vehicle that will probably never be made again.
I have just returned from a trip to Sweden. Photos coming soon.

My first long drive of this XC90 today (600 kilometres total) - to Kimberley, a remote part of central Tasmania. This shot was taken on the return trip, somewhere near Ross on Ashby Road (west of Midland Hwy). Many gravel roads and the car looks very two-toned and didn't miss a beat.
Welly continue to delight with their pretty extensive range of modern vehicles in 1/64 scale. They have definitely established themselves as a worthy if probably superior rival to Matchbox with their fully licensed castings and realistic colour schemes. This new generation Volvo XC90 highlights the level of detailing and realism which goes into these little models. The shape of the real vehicle has been captured just as well as any larger scale collectors model plus it has full detailing front and rear with a glossy and well applied metallic finish. All this for less than the price of a Matchbox! Mint and boxed.
This Volvo XC90 from Sweden was travelling along the A1 autobahn between Hamburg and Bremen. The car was registered in September 2017, and is currently owned by a company in Spånga, 10km north-west of the centre of the Swedish capital, Stockholm.

Another foreign taxi plate in Berlin, and it had to be Sweden, of course. Somehow I didn't get to see too many since. Unfortunately, the sun didn't want me to take a proper picture. Interestingly, though, this picture is taken outside a German taxi - on my way to my first F12 TdF, that I luckily "Just got".

Think these look amazing! One of my fav looking SUV's!
