On a rainy day, male kite was about to take off to deliver the half-eaten vole to female kite (supposed to sit on eggs). Out of sudden, she showed up to pick up the vole instead.
So nice today to get out with no rain and some sunshine. Coyote Hills seemed like the perfect place to go. We haven't since all the big rain. On the hill were the usual suspects, WTK, Merlin, Sharpie RTH, Harrier.
The chicks are very adept at maneuvering in the air and are gone most of the day now, presumably out trying to hunt on their own.
We haven't been to CH much lately. We got there just in time to watch this WTK devouring a vole. I had to wrangle through the branches to get a clear shot which was nearly impossible. I edited out some distracting branch on the right side. I got the vole just before it went down the hatch.
It has just plucked the intestines out which are hanging on a branch below, lower right.
After I followed the WTK uphill in my car he settled down and I took many shots. After a few minutes he was flushed by a passing car. Ultimately, I did video of him finishing breakfast in the field.
