I am sure they are all saying I 'm doing it all wrong! The snow was really deep and we tried to jump from rock dome to rock dome. The reindeer are used to these conditions spreading their fat crescent-shaped cloven hooves over the snow spreading their weight and making easy progress. The Svalbard Reindeer are a smaller sub-species of their Eurasian cousins and spend most of their time eating lichens and mosses from under the snow using skull plates like leaf blowers. So up we continue, up the mountain front towards the summit and the views from the roof of the world....
A South Fork crew and their six pack of 80MAC's has finished up loading a coal train at Sonman just east of Portage, PA. After backing out the connection at Bens Creek, the crew reverses and heads west on Main 1. Currently signaled for eastbound movements only, the operation requires a track authority for the run west. With their impending demise in the next 72 hours, this will be my last shot of the MP 258 signals.
Grumpy, Cranky and Dummy (Dummy is the one on the right obviously) try to shoo away a poor seagull, guilty of floating in the wrong side of the lagoon.
It looks like it should be leaving Par or running wrong line west, but in fact the HST is heading for the Newquuay branch to replace failed 150232 for the day.
Re-potted several plants this morning. I know it's the wrong time of year to do it, but the two succulents on the kitchen windowsill had got so big they weren't allowing the blind to shut properly anymore. I potted two of their 'babies' to go there instead, and moved the massive ones elsewhere.
Did some cleaning in the bathroom this afternoon, and then got out for a walk to Greenwich Park. I wasn't feeling particularly energetic, but it was so nice out I ended up doing quite a long walk, visiting both viewpoints and wandering through the trees for views like this.
The wrong version, but it was once correct. Straight ahead is US 1 (not US 1 ALT), and only US 17 Business turns left (not US 1). VA 2 doesn't begin here anymore, either.

Every time that I see two or more people looking together at the screen of a smartphone, my guess is often like this - "They're most likely viewing some interesting video clips." Thus, when I saw these two girls in their early teens whose eyes are glued to the smartphone screen, the thought that readily came to my mind is, "They most probably viewing some nice and entertaining videos."
However, I found out later that my guess is completely wrong. This was when I talked to the girl holding the phone just after a few minutes of taking this shot. She showed me not any video clip, but a long series of color photos which, she explained, she wanted her friend to see. And those photos were taken not by other people but by herself with her phone camera.
I then thought that yet another photographer is born!

Just behind that waterfall the trail goes through the stream. But, with the high water today I thought it prudent to return some other time.

UP North Train 185 parks at the Ravenswood station on its way to Kenosha.
Due to track construction on the line, this train is operating 'wrong main' and is stopping at what is usually the inbound platform. Though, on a typical railway, this would be the normal running direction. Just the usual quirkiness of the former CNW.

I was seriously late the game on this storm. But I was never out of the game. I had missed a few of the other tornados that afternoon in Northern Yuma County. Coming from south to north I had to position myself correctly. Chaser Convergence was also in full swing so there were not may open areas to choose from.
For best pics of a Tornado and to be safe about it a storm such as this was moving North by Northeast... strategically, you want to be to the south east, southwest for the best light... Behind the RFD (Rear Flank Downdraft) It's all about timing, and I honestly didn't think it would produce a tornado til it was well west of my location. That was going to be the wrong guess... Though when I went due north of Wray I had a good viewing point but not in the safest location as you see.
I got lucky this day as...In my opinion, I found a perfect view, looking due south southeast. I ended up on the northwest side of the rotation. Dangerous yes...but this will eventually give me one excellent view of this tornado and all her glory.
Staying as safe as I could I wouldn't bail till it was about a mile away then I would head north again to a safer / better viewing position.

Greetings Everyone, I haven't posted many new pics since last chase season and the 2020 Severe Weather Season is upon us. Looking for our first set of storms in the coming weeks and I'll be streaming live and of course some of the best storm photography one could ask for.
2020 Update...I've been revamping how I do things. One of those things is to go back and correct how I did my post processing of images. Several Years of over Colorizing over Saturation Adding color... etc. Yes I'm guilty of doing so and I have been going back and replacing thousands of images in hundreds of sets over these past few months here on Flickr my Fine Arts America Site.
The May 7, 2016 Colorado Tornado Event was by far one of my favorite chase days to date. I was able to capture the full genesis of a tornado. From birth to death. It was a quest of mine to do this in a photography medium. Epic severe weather structure, like once in a lifetime structure to capture. But post processing was a nightmare. The images came out well ... Defined but over colored over saturated etc.
Instead of replacing the images this will be a whole new set with a few hundred new images that I didn't post on the original set back in 2016. I've thought about re-editing these images for a long time and they are finally done. No Altercations what so ever. No Added Light, Color, Contrast.
I've brought them directly from RAW. Simply the way I should have done it in the first place!

Why Gulls? Truth be known, gulls are very entertaining to watch. Although I realize they are not the most "prettiest" of birds, they certainly can keep my attention -- at least long enough to grab action shots like this one.

EC2528 races down hill on the wrong road as NP24 from Armidale.
Just prior to lunch time, a coal train was pulled up for having sticking brakes. The coal road was stopped until the fault was rectified, which also held up the UP main with other rail traffic, leaving the DOWN main clear for passenger services to operate bidirectional.
