Canon 300D. Taken from Sainsburys car park.

This short was released in February of 1929. It's awesome.

Stan looks very self-assured here, but that is only temporary...

Parking on a handicapped parking lot is not a joke! And it's very expensive!

Label on the front of 'King and King' by Linda de Haan and Stern Nijland. This copy is owned by the State Library of WA, and is currently held in stock at the Ruth Faulkner Library, in Belmont.

For the record, I believe the application of this label was done, based on the decision of one or two people, possible based of a parental complaint. I do not believe that the State Library of WA, as an institution, is homophobic.

I am not just some fanatical, political raving lunitic, I am a library student, who has previously been employed in public libraries in WA, and I hope to one day become a children's librarian. I am aware of the kind of complaints librarians recieve about their collection, and their practices, but I do not belive that this label is the way to respond to such complaints.

Warnings of sexual contents = understandable. On same sex relationship = insensitive and offensive.

The top of North Street was being used for Tour of Britain cycle race vehicles and equipment.

Most of the road was closed, but traffic was being allowed to come out of Leapale Road, turn left into North Street, and then left down the narrow Haydon Place.

As well as that, traffic was being allowed out of Ward Street, right, down the wrong side of North Street - as seen here - and also then down Haydon Place.

There was a guy standing at the end of Ward Street with a whistle, which he blew every time a car came, to get the guy marshalling the Hayden Place junction to move the cones! You can see him here in the hi-viz jacket.

that's dutch for "No Smoking"

This is a sign that hangs above my bar... there is no smoking allowed in the bar (or barn, for that matter)... I've got a back deck for those sort of shenanigans.

So, is there any significance to this picture today??? Ugh, yes. Well, it turns out that the Governor of Virginia was in my neck of the woods yesterday afternoon to sign a new bill banning smoking inside of restaurants. You might think that I, having never smoked, not really liking smoke, and having a dutch "No Smoking" sign in my barn would be completely for this ban.

Wrong.

I'm not one for hanging out in smoky restaurants... and if I go to a restaurant that is too smoky, well, I just won't go there again... But I don't feel that it is right for "we the people" to be telling businesses how to run their establishments. There are many eating establishments that cater to smokers... non-smokers aren't going to go there... and now there is a disincentive for smokers to go to those establishments. That's one heckuva a way to treat those small businesses. For a lot of local dives, business in VA just got a bit tougher yesterday, in this already tough time.

There are several eating establishments in my area that have gone no-smoking before this ban... they used it to their advantage to lure new customers... but that is their choice. these were family style establishments. but the local biker bar isn't going to attract that clientele by changing their smoking policy. they only risk losing their clients... or at least having them leave much faster than they would have previously.

little by little, the will of the masses will take away the rights of the minority. and sometimes, even if that change benefits yourself, as this change kinda does for me, you have to recognize that something that you may enjoy can just as easily be taken away...

maybe one day we will be talking about how meat or eggs are being banned from being served in restaurants... you may think this is a huge leap, but remember this country had a constitutional amendment to keep the masses from drinking alcohol.

dissenting opinions are welcomed. but remember, you're not going to starve to death if your local bar continues to allow smoking, because your local Olive Garden will still be non-smoking.
