I started pulling off cabbage leaves and then became convinced I was doing it wrong and called my MIL and sure enough, I was. Do not do!
Also: Look! No nail polish! .001 percent of my readership will be so relieved.
ATCS lied to me. After showing me a lineup on the NS Bloomington District, and getting myself excited, the lineup suddenly switched to the UP Springfield Sub. A pair of catfish lead M-BNAS south past BN Target, Bloomington, IL.
Um, goodness only knows what Mr. Hurley thought he was going to find in the mushier bits of the Weaver Navigation. But this wasn't quite what I meant when I said we'd be able to phot the Grids on the logs down by the water.

and begs the question, why the hell did i sign up for a two day conference in ormskirk? although actually, having spent tuesday night sampling some of the fine ale houses and hostelries that liverpool has to offer, i've decided that i quite like liverpool [please don't tell anyone, will you?].

50007 "Sir Edward Elgar" & D400/50050 head north at Winwick with "The Carlisle 50 Farewell" - 1Z38 08:30 Waterloo to Carlisle. 11th April 1992. The colour shot here, which I took simultaneously has been on my Flickr for a while, but the monochrome actually works better - probably because it was such a hazy, grey day. This was far from the final time that double-headed Class 50s have been on the main line on a railtour, despite the title, but perhaps the (then) operators of these Class 50s thought that it would be the last time such a thing happened. Wrong!
They're not peacocks at all, but rather Three Chickens by NE sculptor Graeme Hopper — on temporary display at Durham Johnston School as part of its 2014 Festival of Culture (info). Pity about the vegetation — a hasty snap while the lorry was passing.
A decaying sign in downtown Albuquerque. Nothing says dinner like a buffet. This restaurant used to be called "The Royal Fork," an especially pleasing name. The sign was intended to be both a crown and a fork: two images in one!
I heard a Cetti's Warbler singing in this bush. When I took the shot of the first bird I saw moving it turned out to be this female Blackcap. Never mind
RSPB Ham Wall, Somerset
Whilst at Acton Bridge to see 92 038 on its first post-Brush test run (photo here) there was an opportunity to also see sister GBRf Caledonian Sleeper-liveried Class 92, 92 014, running back from Garston Car Terminal to Crewe light engine on 0Z41. 014 was recessing to Crewe to await transfer to Brush to be the third Class 92 to receive the modifications to work the CAF Mk5 sleeper stock (including Dellner couplers).
The light was very reasonable for this time of year and I was in position to capture 014 coming through on the Up Fast (the line in the foreground) as locos/trains heading on to Crewe usually do. However, for whatever reason, 92014 was sent round the other side of the bay platform on the Up Slow so wasn't quite the shot I was hoping for!!
