During the recent storms, there has been the odd break which has allowed for some shots from the water, which wouldn't end with me being pulverised.
Here a swell rolls in expolding against the sea wall in Teignmouth. The energy sends the spray back out to sea.

I got a very interesting surprise about an hour after 24Z passed. Which was NS 14Q running on track one at Millbury, Ohio.
Normally NS runs trains that are going west on track one and eastbounds on track two.
Somehow 24Z had to stop and let 14Q go by. Which is very low IQ because 24Z is one of the higher priority trains on the chicagoline, but hey, I'm not the Toledo Eats dispatcher.
A couple of things here, firstly I suspected this Clio driver hadn't looked before pulling out of the space at the start of the video clip. It looked closer in real life than on the video, but wasn't near enough to bother getting too excited about. As I was pondering this thought we approached the roundabout and he pulled off this little stunt! Not sure whether it was intentional to avoid the queue or if it was a genuine mistake. I rather suspect the latter. At least he didn't take out the tourist train anyway.
Looking back at the footage it's interesting to note the two guys stood at the roadside where the Clio pulls out. Something about the car clealy catches their attention, perhaps they noticed he'd not looked too.
One of my two entries in to last night's set subject competition on the theme "Delicate & Brash", which was judged by Ken Scott aka Touching the Light. As always, Ken's appraisal was as informative, insightful and entertaining. I was going for the combination of "day after the night before" and "inappropriate footwear for the beach" with these sandals, which I had bought from a local charity shop. Happily, this image was awarded a 2nd place.

CN decided to stick the 6011 in front of EJ&E 657 on N21 passing through Crest Hill, IL. Not bad, but I like my hometown orange better!
Although the reporter got it all wrong my piece "Inside Hausbeck's Head - Keeshan Delight No-9" made CNN's Five Largest Attractions list and will be featured on the TV sometime soon.

This is a hiking trail at my favorite forest preserve, Blackwell in Warrenville, Illinois. So here's the shocking truth......................this forest preserve is the result of a landfill. When I was a kid, I used to come here with my dad every week to drop off the garbage. I was always fascinated by the big yellow earthmovers that would roll around in the fields and, well, I guess they moved the earth....lol. I remember the size of the tires on those machines. Maybe they only seemed big 'cuz I was a little kid, but I dont think so. And now that Im thinking about it, I havent seen an earthmover in many many years. I wonder what that means? Not as many landfills? or Im just not noticing them? Now I am curious.
I get curious about the strangest things....lol.
Anyway, I think about this today because I spend so much time here and who would have ever known, after all these years, I would find myself coming back to this place, week after week, for the purpose of photography. You have to admit, for a garbage dump, it sure is a pretty place.
This particular lake is one of three in the forest preserve. When they originally designed this as a park, this lake was going to be a place for swimming. Sand beach and all. And it actually opened for a couple seasons. But then closed and never opened again. I dont really know what happened to the concept but I can only imagine they were unable to keep the water "clean" enough for safe swimming. I could be wrong, but thats the only thing that makes sense. They had a beach house and everthing but they have since taken that down.
The path goes around the entire forest preserve. Its a nice path and a zillion people use it for biking, jogging, walking, photography.....*grin*. This forest preserve is part of the DuPage County Park District. The park I go to at lunchtime during workdays is part of this same park district. I have never seen parks so well maintained. They are all emaculate and well groomed. Trees are pruned regularly and grass is mowed. No garbage anywhere (no pun intended...lol).
The day I shot this, we had those really nice puffy clouds.
