A PATH train enters the lower level of Newark Penn Station after crossing Dock Bridge. The Newark-bound track was out of service west of Journal Square, which allowed for this uncommon view, as well as a diversion through a yard track so trains could pass between Journal Square and Harrison.
I decided to head down to the railroad tracks yesterday morning to catch the Amtrak Empire Builder on its way to Chicago. Instead, at about the time I expected it, this BNSF freight train showed up instead. This was cause for some optimism, because a northbound train would have told me that Amtrak would be running on the other track a mile away. However, after waiting another half hour, I decided I didn't care to find out how late it was running, and went home with this one and a few shots of the snow-covered trees.

New year, and my first run in with a security jobs-worth.
On private property I generally respect any "no photograph" signs. I might bitch about them under my breath, but the long and short of it (at least in the UK) is that the land is private property and the owner has the right to restrict entry on any grounds he likes. Sure, he'll be in deep water if he tried to do it on race or gender, but that's how it is.
Anyway, tonight, inspired by some other shots I had seen, I decided to take a wander up to the roof terrace of 1 New Change, London. This is a new development combining two floors of retail, a couple of floors of offices and finally a 6th floor roof terrace bar/restaurant which overlooks St Paul's cathedral and gives a good view down toward the eye and the Shard.
Given that it was 6:30pm on a bank holiday, the restaurant was closed but the terrace was open and empty bar for one couple of were enjoying the view and taking some pot shots on a compact (good luck with that).
I deploy the tripod, Nikon D300 and proceed to take some shots. Swap some lenses about, take a few more. Finally getting a bit cold I started putting everything away.
Cue day-glo security guard.
"Is that a professional camera?" he asks.
I was completely perplexed by the question. I was ready for accusations of terrorist, but not to classify my camera. I replied that I didn't know what he meant, but that I wasn't a professional, it was a hobby. (A slight fib as I will shoot for money, but in this instance I was just amusing myself).
He then proceeded to explain that professional cameras weren't allowed. I proceeded to explain that without a "professional" camera as he called it, it was pointless taking photographs as night.
He didn't stand up to cross examination very well, falling back onto "sorry, it's the rules" and "we've been watching you on the CCTV" (I waved at the CCTV at this point).
I then asked for the name of the building owner.
As I was all packed up and had done all my shots (and it was cold) at that point I left.
They do seem to have an interesting idea of law there, they had a sign saying "It is illegal to smoke on this terrace", which is actually bull. The terrace is outside, so it is not illegal. They could have a rule saying it is not allowed, but a rule by the company is not a law and the best they could do is ask you to leave.
I should have lit up a smoke.
So who fancies a long exposure mob (i.e. no flashes!)?

RL306 leads CLF3, GM27 and CLF1 on a loaded grain train to Maldon. Train loaded at the Junee Sub Terminal. This photo was taken nearing Galong on a clear October afternoon.
What is going on here, as two trains pass by each other running the opposite main lines on the Canadan Pacific's Watertown sub at Duplainville. Oh, did I forget to mention the always cool INRD 90MAC's westbound into the golden sunset?
maybe this was morally wrong, she turned away when I took out the camera, and I guess she didnt like being photographed... anyone knows the norms for photo's like this?
but the motive is so good!! man! i really enjoy how the grafitti and the xmas lights on the window blends so well.... and the halo! hmm...

IAIS 513 heads down the westbound main past the old eastbound approach signal for the Government Bridge between 3rd and 4th Streets in Davenport, IA.

Bracknell Forest Council have awarded all of their tendered service contracts to Courtney Buses, from Monday 13th July 2015. Currently, some are run by Courtney and others by First Berkshire (First run 53/153, 151, 108). Some are direct transfers to Courtney, while other routes disappear among revisions to services. First's last day was Saturday 11th July 2015, because the council have decided to axe all of the Sunday services.
Courtney are introducing two new Bracknell liveries for their won council services, lemon and blue and lemon and red - to go with their existing lemon and lime (171/2) and lemon and peach (194) commercial services).
Solo YJ62 FCC has been painted lemon and blue, and is seen here prior to Courtney's start on the Bracknell routes, substituting for a 'coffee' branded bus on Wokingham-area route 128.
