The (fake) moleskine is my idea-notebook, where I draw great ideas, or less great ideas for photographs that I'd like to make. It's really a great tool for expanding your creativity and perception of your surroundings.

Feb. 17, 2009 - These are what I bought today. My students have been complaining that they can't see what I'm writing on the white board, so I went to Office Depot and got new markers.
Mi cabeza era el campo de batalla de una guerra invisible, estaba llena de pensamientos. TantÃsimos que creÃa que en cualquier momento iba a reventar. Lo peor es que la mayorÃa de esos pensamientos no tenÃan sentido, no sabÃa a dónde me iban a llevar, estaban... ¿inacabados? Si, creo que esa es la palabra.
Y el hecho de no tener las cosas claras hacÃa que me sintiera aún peor. Era como un cÃrculo vicioso, un maldito circulo vicioso del que no sabÃa cómo salir.
En cierto momento y sin saber cómo, todo se fue. Se fue todo mi ruido mental, mis males y mis preocupaciones. Después de las palabras más simples y estúpidas no quedó nada más que silencio. Todo se fue por un momento y lo jodido es que me sentà bien por el hecho de no sentir nada. Intenté disfrutar de ese inesperado momento de paz que recorrÃa mi cuerpo. Pero como yo sospechaba el caos no tardó mucho en volver a invadir mi cabeza. Regresó de golpe, sin darme tiempo apenas a reaccionar y mientras consumÃa todo mi ser yo me obligaba a pensar que no querÃa estar mal, es más, intenté ser optimista un par de veces pero en esa situación me parecÃa una opción casi imposible.
Pasé del silencio al vacÃo en un instante, y del vacÃo a exprimirme y morirme en mis entrañas en menos aún. Retorcerse, llorar. Retorcerse y llorar y no saber que más hacer. Nada. Todo era silencio, vacÃo y retorcerse.
#Ya sé que la foto es muy tÃpica, pero me gusta bastante, aunque no sé porqué.

Lori writes: My uncle Louie (father's middle brother), aunt Esther - my Russian born aunt who taught me the Russian words to Dark Eyes - she danced, sang, was an excellent cook and an extrovert. With their daughters Lilyan and Jean. Lilyan was absolutely beautiful but did not have a good life - Jean is charming, extroverted, married Henry Miller and they've had a wonderful marriage, a wonderful life, wonderful children - son Bruce is a pediatric physician, daughter married to Burt a Realtor in Manhattan. Jean and Henry now live in a condo in Florida. They all grew up in Plainfield, New Jersey. Uncle Louis was also a dress manufacturer as was uncle Sol. My father was the only professional in the family.

I feel a bit like MC Escher, who recorded 2 dimensional object belying their
nature's with a 3rd dimension, all represented in a 2d medium. I'm
recording for posterity someone recording their thoughts for posterity (a
wedding guest-book).
USFS write-up; The former Lava Cast Forest Geological Area (now part of the Newberry National Volcanic Monument) was established by the Forest Service in 1942. The geological area was established to protect the many lava trees and tree molds which occur in the area. The various flows of the Lava Cast Forest were all erupted from the Northwest Rift Zone of Newberry Volcano.
There is a one mile paved self guided interpretive trail with barrier free access. The trail loops through an area where hot molten lava erupted from the northwest flank of Newberry Volcano and engulfed a forest here 7,000 years ago. The landscape now includes the "casts" or molds, of these ancient trees. Colonizing plants, such as delicate penstemon flowers and Indian paintbrush, have taken root in the rocky soil. Ponderosa pine trees have re-established themselves and flourished as well, so that the landscape now includes a blend of the past and the present.
