This is a letter from Donatien Alphonse François, Marquis de Sade: the original sadist. It on display at the Château de Vincennes, in the cell in which he was incarcerated between 1777 and 1784.

I don't know why, but I was surprised to see that he had such nice handwriting, for a sadist.
