After having first experienced the White Pass & Yukon Route railway in 2011, on our return to Alaska in 2014 there was no hesitation: we had to do it again :-) Truly one of the great rail journeys in the world, you don't have to love trains to be thrilled by the views on the way from Skagway, Alaska, to Fraser, British Columbia, Canada.

Yard in Skagway for the WP&YR. Built in 1898 during the Klondike Gold Rush, the White Pass & Yukon Route narrow gauge railroad runs from Skagway, Alaska, into British Columbia, Canada. These days it operates as a tourist line on the first 67.5 miles of the original 110 mile route.

This old Western Pacific hopper car was spotted in Emeryville, CA on the AMIWC (yes, an auto train with manifest cars. Because Precision Railroading).
