Prairie Line Railway MP15DC 1001 emerges from the 168-year old (1852 built) Anheuser-Busch brewery complex in St. Louis, MO, with a single empty hopper in tow. The Prairie Line took over switching operations at Anheuser-Busch earlier this year from Patriot Rail, and from how I understand it is the rebranded FTRL (Foster Townsend Rail) operation that gave this line up to Patriot Rail a few years ago. The brewery receives a variety of products for different drinks in hoppers, including hops, wheat, barley and more. The company also ships beer in boxcars to distribution centers in LaPorte, TX and Aurora, CO, the boxcars for which are loaded in the warehouse South East of the plant (right behind and to the left of the photographer). The brewery is serviced several times a day depending on plant needs as only a handful of cars can be spotted at a time. The spur runs down Dorcas Street, if only for a block and a half, and is the last bit of street trackage of the Manufacturers Railway system that once branched throughout the streets of downtown St. Louis. The Manufacturers Railway was owned by the brewery (and actually founded by Anheuser-Busch in 1887) but was given up in 2011 when AB stopped shipping beer by rail. Back then FTRL took over operations and since then has managed to win back at least some of the outbound boxcar traffic. St. Louis, MO

Manhattan - New York City

Dark days -

Well as the second day without heating progresses - it's time to start wearing a hat indoors.

Fortunately the UK is undergoing a "warm" spell and the outside temperature is 12C, indoors it has dropped to 14C (mainly as a result of having open and close doors as we go about the day to day business of life).

My 99 year old mother-in-law feels the cold badly and normally has her part of the house at 30C has been complaining about the cold. She doesn't seem to remember that the heating is broken for more than about 30 minutes - so she is repeatedly asking me to "turn the heating up", (An electric fan heater is no substitute for a couple of big central heating radiators).

Hopefully the engineer will get the heating back on soon.

Seaview Transportation Company's SW7 SVTX 5 is spotting up a cebterbeam load of lumber inside the BB&S lumber yard on the long paved spur. The little 1200hp EMD was blt. Feb. 1951 as NYC 8851 and served PC and CR before being sold to the PW where it served mostly as a Worcester switcher until coming to the Seaview around 2002.

CN L58031-10 shoves back into the Mabe plant in Brantford with a cut of boxcars.

This area is known as "CN Masseys" because it used to be home of the Massey Ferguson Combine plant that once made Brantford quite the busy place.

they've been working on the windows off and on all day long.

Delaware-Lackawanna PO-75 works Ardent Mills at Pocono Summit, picking up grain cars that were dropped off a few days earlier. With its Canadian wide cab clearly identifying its heritage, I liked being able to get it leading a train with it being one of the more unique engines thanks to the cab. 10-22-21

CSXT L007, the weekday Middleboro to Attleboro turn, has backed down into the Win Waste facility with their three GP40-2s and is about to double up a cut of outbound loaded trash cars at this important and relatively new customer that has breathed new life into the Myles Standish Industrial Lead. This lead is accessed from Attleboro Junction at MP 8.6 on the Middleboro Secondary mainline a bit over a half mile behind me where they dropped the balance of their train on their way back east from Attleboro.

BPRR 3000 works the former Central Vermont yard at White River Junction. After a few shots here, I headed north to intercept the VRS detour move.

“Bertie, yesterday when the man had a friend here, I learned a very interesting fact. Well, I would have done if I had understood what they were on about.” Said Sky quietly.

“Interesting, you say Sky, what did you nearly learn then?”

“Well, the man and his friend were talking about something called a computer, and the man was saying he wished they would leave his computer alone. He didn’t say who though, but I don’t think he was talking about us.”

“I wonder who he was talking about then Sky?” Asked Posh who had woken up and was nearly listening.

“I have no idea Posh, the man’s friend said that when it comes to techwolopy the man was a dinner-saw. That was when they lost me totally.”

“They would have lost me too Sky, I wonder what that is?” Said Bertie scratching his head with a paw.

“I wondered if Posh might know as he is very clever and knows all sorts of things there is no need to know.” Explained Sky.

“Maybe, we should try and work it out for ourselves before letting Posh explain.” Suggested Bertie.

Posh smiled thinking that might be a good idea as he closed his eyes again.

“Very well Bertie, let us start with him being a dinner-saw. I think that might be two words joined together.” Suggested Sky counting them out on his paws and finding that he had no paws left to count, so it must be two.

“Yes, yes I can see that Sky. The first word is dinner; I think that is what the man eats sometimes. I’m sure I’ve heard him say that he was going to have his dinner and then he had a meal.” Said Bertie still rubbing his head in concentration.

“Okay, so what is a saw then?”

“I think it means it hurts Sky, but then I could be wrong.”

“That would mean his meal hurt him though and I don’t think that was what they were talking about Bertie.” Sky said looking even more confused

“What about techwolopy then Sky? What can that mean?”

“You have got me there Bertie, that has a lot of letters and when there is that many, they confuse me.” Admitted Sky.

“Me too, even with my Merrythought education, I still become very confused with words that have too many thingies in them.” Admitted Bertie.

“We think that a computer is a thingy that the man looks at a lot when he is too bored to do anything interesting, I think we can agree.” Said Sky not quite sure where he was going to take this suggestion.

“I think we can agree on that much, Sky. I have often watched him hitting those thingies with scribble on them and then watching him as he looks surprised at what has happened to the picture. I think he would do if he left the picture alone personally.”

“You are probably right Bertie. Anyway, back to the question about the man’s friend and what he said. I think talking to you Bertie, I have worked out what was being said.”

“You are so clever Sky, I’m way behind you as I still have no idea. What was it he meant to say then?”

“I think what should have been said if they spoke plain talk, was that the man’s picture making thingy was over fed with electrickery, having had its dinner meal, and now had a sore tummy.” Explained Sky looking proudly up in the air with a look of a bear that had seen the biggest pot of honey ever and knew it was all for him.

“Gosh Sky, you are so clever, I wonder if I’ll ever be as clever as that. What do you think Posh, isn’t Sky the cleverest bear ever?” Said Bertie looking excited.

Posh opened his eyes and looked at his two friends and smiled.

“Probably, Bertie, probably.” He said, then went back to sleep.

Some days are just wonderful

CSXT's weekday West Springfield based local L012 has paused on its way east to Palmer to pull and spot Construction Services located just off the main at MP QB89.8 on CSXT's Boston Sub (ex Boston and Albany mainline). Ex Chessie GP40-2s 6227 and 6245 will drop their train on the single track main and duck into the stub ended siding at left, one of only a handful of customers remaining that is served directly off the mainline.

Switch duties are underway by the Union Pacific at the Andersen Windows plant in Oak Park Heights and Bayport. This used to get switched out by the Minnesota Commercial pre-Positive Train Control.

A big thanks to Flynn for being so nice on my enterview ♥

Working hard for something we don't care about is pain. Working for something we believe (with or without tomorrow) is a blessing.

As you can see there really isn't a nest here but this is the tree that the eagles have chosen to try to build a nest in. This has been going on now for two weeks. The eagles keep bringing branches into this "Y" of the tree and every one of them have fallen to the ground. They are very persistent though. I would like to climb up there and nail a few branches in and give them a head start, but I think they will figure it out on their own.
