Fishermen of several genres enjoy working away from the office. Military Jetty, Golden Beach, Caloundra, Queensland, Australia.
The sand in the background used to be covered by vegetation and was the northern end of Bribie Island. Over the last few years, wave action in Moreton Bay near where it joins the Pacific Ocean washed at first a small passage across this thin stretch of island, and eventually, with the aid of adverse weather and Cyclone Alfred creating a massive gap and new entrance for the northern end of Pumicestone Passage that separates Bribie from the mainland. Concurrently. the old Caloundra Bar silted up and closed naturally and North Bribie is now part of the mainland.
Continued erosion of the island was creating a wider and wider gap and an environmental disaster along Bribie. It also created a new open ocean access to all the homes and businesses along a large stretch of Golden Beach (Caloundra). These then faced all the open ocean might bring including wave action right across the passage where it had not been previously. Drastic action was needed to stop further erosion and this threat, so the Queensland Government stepped in and have rebuilt, reinforced and replaced most of the sand which had been eroded.
No reforestation has occurred on the restored section to date (will it?) but it does mean that Pumicestone Passage does now connect to Moreton Bay at the new location. In addition, one can now walk from Bullcock Beach and Kings Beach in Caloundra to what was once North Bribie Island for a substantial distance along and across beach that was also once unreachable by foot - only by watercraft from Caloundra or alternatively, 4WD all the way from the other end of Bribie Island where a bridge was built in the early 1960's.
Google earth will reveal this rather momentous course of nature if you are interested, but not yet the fix.
The actual new passage is to the left of this shot back towards central Caloundra.
Nakło Śląskie - PKP Cargo EU07 1509 with a container train that I believe comes from Kaliningrad, Russia and goes to the Czech Republic. The EU07 would take it to Zebrzydowice.

After a very quick crew change, I rolled up to the signal bridge at Mans just to get ready to wait for my shot, only to see 1080 literal yards from me, pulling out of the yard during it's work. I've never seen them swap this fast, but I sure am glad I made it back in time to grab a frame!
The Jackson & Lansing's Monday day job running as CSX Z646-17 on CSX is working the south side of CSX Ensel Yard in Lansing, Michigan while CSX L305-16 has come to life to put together their train on the north side of the yard after getting banner tested on the way in. It's refreshing seeing shortline and class I standard cab EMD's ruling the roost together anywhere these days. 11/17/2025

Been working with the older D810. I like it for birds in the bush shots.
However, as this shows, I'm so out of practice with it for inflights, that she slipped to of the edge of the frame.

Because someone has to get **it done! :)
- Laius in his home office at 1am.
I can tell he's quite pleased with the new props... also shown on previous pic.
Now maybe he should be having a refreshing iced tea instead of cup of coffee since its getting super hot here this time of the year... unlike the rest of the world, or mostly!

Connecticut was graced with its first major snowfall of the year the day before Halloween. While some places north of the state line saw accumulations up to two inches here in the northeastern section of the Nutmeg state it was heavy and wet but didn't build up too much. But the big heavy flakes made for some interesting shooting conditions and equally interesting working conditions for conductor Pat Schmidt.
Having just come down from Palmer with New England Central train 608,his day is just about done. He has to do a bit of switching here to spot and pull Willimantic Waste Paper Inc., the NECR's busiest customer in the area. Once that work is done they will pull down just a couple hundred yards and park on the main beside their office that sits at about MP 29.5 of the Palmer Sub and call it a day.

This porter will not carry this heavy load up the 1400 meters. He will do a lot more. The porters take it in turns to cover sections from sunrise to sunset. The loads are sometimes around 50 kg.
Their body adapts incredibly well, developing a very specific musculature for their work.
When you visit the flower fields you are immediately struck by their vast, natural beauty. But it doesn't take long to realize that they are also an agricultural enterprise that is heavily reliant on hard, manual labor. Telling that story has been a multi year project of mine entitled "Working the Fields".
