Many of the men manning the fishing boats in Taiwan are migrant workers from indonesia, the Philippines or Myanmar, amongst other places. There are frequent reports of them being abused, and when you see them at or around harbours here, they seem hard-worked and quite poor.

USW Oil Workers health and safety training

Thursday, June 28 was just another cold winters day for Sydneysiders - until it was turned upside down when the Cadbury Joyville Express steamed alongside platforms at Central, Redfern and Sydenham stations. As soon as the train had stopped, the doors of the carriages were flung open and out marched the Joyville workers, keen to spread joy (in the form of Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate) around to everyone. Within minutes of the trains arrival, the whistle was sounded and the train was off again, whistling into the distance, leaving only the smell of coal smoke and the taste of chocolate as proof it was ever there to begin with.

Former corner shop? (milk bar?)

Three chaps were up on this pylon working on the overhead power cables.

(Co-incidentally (?) just as I was adding this note the power went off momentarily causing the lights to flash and the computer switched off !)

Sponsored by the Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians (Ucatt) to commemorate building workers who have died at work.

A tree located in the backyard of the BC Legislature commemorates all workers injured or killed in the workplace, and those who suffer from work-related illness or injury.

I have to admit to not looking forward enormously to visiting the Black Country Museum, but I was completely blown away by the "village" that has been constructed, and many of the buildings in it. This is such a lovely building, I'm in awe of it.

LabourStart partially sponsored the Rebel Music (Latin American political music documentary and live performances) stop in Peterborough Ontario.

Much like the farm workers, the communist industrial workers would walk around in pairs, with one indicating the fabulous plenty (certainly no shortages of hair gel) and opportunity, with a sweep of his arm. Throughout the Soviet occupation, people used to stare ahead of them with determination, either through being inspired by communist ideals, or because they needed glasses.

By some definitions, construction workers may be engaged in manual labour as unskilled or semi-skilled workers. These workers begin by attending to general tasks such as digging, cleaning, and unloading equipment. As they acquire experience, they start to specialize in particular areas - for example, roofing, pipefitting, structural work, or carpentry.

Two events of interest in Dublin today. [1] Clerys workers protest against the sudden loss of jobs when the oldest department store in Dublin closed. [2] A large number of people celebrate Bloomsday.

Clerys was a long-established department store on O'Connell Street in Dublin, Ireland, a focal point of the street.

The business dates from 1853, however the current building dates from 1922, having been completely destroyed in the 1916 Easter Rising. Clerys completed a five-year restoration programme in 2004 at a cost of €24 million.

Kieran Wallace and Eamonn Richardson were appointed joint provisional liquidators to OSC Operations Limited (the “Company”) trading as Clerys, on 12 June 2015. The company ceased to trade with immediate effect. Staff were given 30 minutes notice to pack up and leave - some had worked there for over 40 years.

Walmart employees picket outside of the Walmart store in Pico Rivera, California on Wednesday November 6, 2013. The employees accuse Walmart of continued unlawful retaliation against workers who speak out for change at the company. Some of the striking workers say that when they have come forward to call on Walmart to address issues with scheduling, wages, benefits and above all else, respect in the work place, Walmart has reacted by retaliating against them.
