Meanwhile, over in Chaoyang District, some construction workers are wondering what to do next now that all of the building sites have closed down for the Olympics, and a certain photographer is concluding that he is unable to go two weeks without photographing the CCTV tower.
One of the tobacco workers at the farm we visited in the Viñales Valley.
Tobacco farming is the main industry in the Viñales Valley, with numerous small holdings laid out between the large limestone mogotes which rise from the valley floor.
Farmers take advantage of the rich red soil of the valleys to harvest their crop in a labour intensive way, using both man and animal-power to plough their fields, pick the crop and then dry to tobacco so it can be sold.
The farm we visited was run by a large family of three generations, each doing their bit to ensure it is a success, with the help of several farm workers and a few oxen.
the land around us this year is being rented by a local product farmer , this yrs crop is peppers

As you can see, it's a very very busy place. ;-) In fact, if you stay here, you're likely to have the whole hotel to yourself. Recommended for folks who want to channel Jack Torrance in "The Shining" ;-)

Had an opportunity to organize a committee to do a “Take Your Son/Daughter to Work Day” when I worked at CDCR. This day revolves around parents taking their child to work for one day. In the U.S., it occurs on the 4th Thursday in April every year. We had a group of about 25 young people. We organized a educational but fun filled learning day for our co-workers children. The parents were pleased and the kids seemed to have had a really enjoyable day
Veteran Derry civil rights activist Eamon Melaugh addressing the annual conference of the Workers Party in Belfast (04.10.08) .
The theme of the conference was to mark the 40th Anniiversary of the first major civil rights march in Derry (5th October 1968) which was a peaceful march but was brutally supressed by members of the "B Specials" (Special Constabulary).
Eamon Melaugh was one of the founders of the Derry Housing Action Committee and the Derry Unemployed Committee. He played a key role in the struggle for civil rights in Northern Ireland and was involved with the Northern Ireland Civil Rights Campaign for many years.
Eamon was present in Derry at the civil rights march on what is now known worldwide as "Bloody Sunday" on 30th January 1972 in which 14 unarmed people were shot dead by British Soldiers of the Paratroop Regiment. Eamon narrowly escaped being shot himself. A keen amateur photographer, he took many photographs on that day which were shown around the world in the aftermath. Eamon also took many other photographs in Derry during the period and a selection of them can be viewed on the website of the Conflict Arichive on the Internet Project at cain.ulst.ac.uk/melaugh/index.html
Bridge over an old line from Charlestown for workers at the Crombie munitions depot to cross the tracks. Simply constructed on four brick piers (two either side of the track), workers initials in the poured concrete kerbs indicate it was constructed in 1955.
